According to the Post Knicks will not trade Morris for a late first and also have to take on a longer contract. Want to preserve flexibility for 2020 and 2021..
this sounds like a negotiation tactic; for NYK we are obviously skeptical
i dont think so. If they take back a longer contract they prob want multiple picks. One for Morris one for the loss of roster flexibility. I actually don't hate that thinking.
which is incredible for me to type. A late first is just giving him away. He's our best player right now. If you move him it has to be worthwhile, not just for the sake of another "asset" that rarely turns into anything. They're not going to get a star player, but perhaps there's a middle ground where you add a young player who's better than some of our lottery disappointments (Frank, Knox, DSJr). To me, that should be the goal.
to take on a contract for next year to facilitate a Morris deal - don't know why they're so obsessed with having $75 million in cap space every summer. They're only gonna wind up bringing in eight new mercenaries on one-year deals.
Trading him for a 1st round pick is such a no brainer. He’s played well but look at how many injuries he’s already had. And he’s playing above his head- he is not a long term solution at his age and situation. So the Knicks will overpay for him or let him walk for nothing. Any decent GM would be selling him and other vets for the top offer. But the Knicks are run by complete morons.
I would have very little interest in Kuzma.
Late 1sts are always a roll of the dice but good teams can hit on them. I hope they get a late 1st for the next GM to make to make the pick. Or use it in a trade for a player or hopefully Masai....
might be limited, not only because of his high contract, but also because several contenders either have few or zero picks they can trade (Lakers, Clippers, Mavs, Rockets, Bucks). You would hope for a little bidding war to develop but it might not happen.
misleading. I think the fact that they don't want to take on long term money along with the first is a more accurate depiction, which feels like slight progress for this team.
Could they fetch a late 2021 pick instead? Much stronger draft apparently.

Very true. Ideally you want a pick in 2021 or later and hope one of the contenders falters. But most of the good teams this year are very limited on future picks.
A good GM would create a bidding market for him and fetch the top offer. I have zero faith in this front office doing that. They are worried about saving their job.
that would be high this year or next, I'd take on a longer term deal.
Here's the thing, people don't want to come here. So maintaining cap flexibility is good and all but if you just spend it on stop gap contracts like we did this year, it's not really worth all that much unless you parlay it into assets like draft picks. So taking back longer contracts shouldn't be off the table, IMO.

Great another player that only wants to chuck and play no defense

He's not perfect but Presti is a damn good GM. What he was able to accomplish this past offseason is pretty damn impressive given the circumstances.
