I stowed 3 reasons why he will get it on the first Shula thread. I will copy and paste here.
1. He and Judge have a tie at Alabama. It appears Judge prefers guys with ties to Patriots or Crimson Tide.
2. Shula has OC experience at Tampa and Carolina and even was voted OC of the year in 2015 when Carolina went to the SB.
3. Jones is comfortable with Shula. I wouldn’t be surprised if people have voiced this to Judge. Of course you definitely want the transition to be nice and smooth so continuing with Shula makes sense for Jones.
I just have this “feeling” later today we will see SHULA GIANTS OC.
I mean think about it, have you heard anyone else being interviewed for the position? How come?

I doubt it's Shula for this reason.
Didn't we hear that one of the things Mara didn't like about Shurmur was the coaching staff that Shurmur chose?
If that's true and the Giants have already retained two coaches from the current staff of assistants, I doubt they include a third name, especially a prominent coach like the old OC.
Its just my opinion, but I'd like to get one guy on the staff he was real NFL experience in the position he is taking. Plus Garrett s a very good OC, and he played QB which should help Jones.

He likes Alabama guys who worked for Saban. Saban replaced Shula.

Good point Victor....the Saban tie does make it MUCH tighter for sure.
RE: Someone with a clue how to best utilize Barkley Â
Shula's strength was thought to be how he utilized the RB's. He was thought to have very creative run designs and tried to get them one-on-one in the passing game in favorable matchups. His perceived weakness was in downfield passing plays.
RE: RE: Someone with a clue how to best utilize Barkley Â
there's really no way to know that. Shumur clouded everything, IMO. He was a disaster.
Shurmur called the plays and likely heavily influenced the offensive philosophy, but you'd think Shula would at least be involved in the game planning.

It's hard to know how much influence Shula had in this offense, since it was Shurmur's and he called the plays. I'll trust Judge to hire the guy he wants.
I'm not joking. It's outside of the box but I love the way he opens up running lanes and finds seams in opposing defenses. Apparently, he's holding out for a college HC job. He's never coached in the NFL but has been asked to consult behind the scenes before.
I do think Garrett is a possibility though as Judge did say he was going to rely on his staff and Garrett having all that HC experience might be a big plus in his favor.
If there were other previous HC's on the staff already I think it would be less likely for Garrett but as the staff stands now, I could see it.
Joe Brady would be a no brainer - he runs a Saints style offense Â
Jason Garrett did great work with Dak, Zeke and Witten... all are good and great players but we have a trio we hope/want to be similar with Daniel, Saquon and Engram.
Those 2 are my top picks that I feel are worth mentioning except that I have 0% confidence we go after/can get Brady and I'm not much more confident that we would be able to or will get Garrett as our OC...
I'm pretty sure we will get somebody no one likes or more so is just unproven and we will all have to wait and see. I just want to know what this team's identity is going to be and I feel like Judge truly wants its identity to be diverse so it can alter week to week and I just don't know if that's the right way to go about it as opposed to setting your style and trying to oppose your will on the opponent every week. Will he really take it back and try to go old school and try to be a 60 - 40 run first team? We shall see. Go Giants.
I'm open to Shula, as I really dont know what he brings to the table... Freakin Pat was hogging the playbook! To the point above, his established relationship with Jones is a def plus...
I would look at someone such as Shane Waldron from the Rams. Currently the QB coach and Pass Game Coordinator.
I am stealing this from Rams page but I love the Rams offense and ability to throw and run which is what the Giants will need to do as well. AND he has Patriots connections.
In 2018, Waldon helped lead a Rams’ passing attack that finished among the top-10 in passing yards per attempt (4th), passing yards per game (5th) and touchdowns (tied-8th) and saw QB third-year Jared Goff set career-bests across the stat sheet.
Under Waldron’s guidance in 2017, the tight end duo of Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett combined for 539 yards, three touchdowns and averaged 13.1 yards per reception. Everett recorded a 69-yard reception in his second game as a professional which tied for the second-longest reception by a tight end during the 2017 season.
Previously, Waldron served as the Washington Redskins offensive quality control coach for the 2016 season. That season, Washington’s offense broke the franchise record for total net yards in a single season (6,454), surpassing the previous team record set in 1989. That same Redskins team averaged 403.4 yards per game, becoming the first team in franchise history to average 400 yards per game. In the NFL rankings, Washington ranked third in total offense.
Prior to joining the Redskins, Waldron spent four seasons at UMass, serving as the Minutemen’s Recruiting Coordinator/Tight Ends Coach from 2012-13 and Offensive Line Coach from 2014-15. Waldron helped guide tight end Rob Branchflower to a seventh-round selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2014 NFL Draft after Branchflower set the school record for most career receiving yards by a tight end.
In 2011, Waldron served as the offensive coordinator at the Buckingham Browne & Nichols H.S. (Mass.) and also as a Northeast Sports Consultant. A year earlier, he served as Wide Receivers Coach for the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League.
Before his stint in the UFL, Waldron worked with the New England Patriots in various capacities across five seasons with the franchise. Beginning in 2002, Waldron served as an operations intern for two seasons before being promoted to the title of an operations assistant in 2004, when he handled special teams quality control duties in addition to overseeing the completion of weekly game plans. After three years coaching at Notre Dame, Waldron returned to New England in 2008 to serve as an offensive quality control coach and later served as the tight ends coach in 2009.
Waldron spent the 2005-07 seasons as an offensive graduate assistant at Notre Dame. With the Irish, he helped guide two of the most explosive offenses in school history, as both the 2005 and 2006 units averaged at least 31 points per game.
A native of Portland, Ore., Waldron is a 2002 graduate of Tufts University, where he was a three-year letterman as a tight end and long snapper. He is married to Meghan, and they have two daughters, Lainey and Rylee.
1- Jones familiarity on his skill set. Could give new QB coach some insight
2 - familiar with offense skilled players- Barkley, Shep, Smith, Slayton etc.. the new OC would need to learn the Top speed Of players,, separation ability of the WR (next to none)
3- familiar with old play book and knows what to do with it....burn it!
I recall an incident during a time out when Jones and Shurmur were conferring on a play -Shula came into the huddle mentioned something- all nodded the results was a TD.. isolated event but it shows insight.
and I would approve. Good football mind, experienced QB coach and OC. Still relatively young. Saban connection. Giants connection. Ivy league education. Pretty much always upbeat.
who can properly evaluate the quality and strength of each player/position group and come up with plays and game plans to highlight the strengths of each player/position group. Create mismatches, deception, make your team hard to defend/play against.
And then, in game, when something isn't working well or it does work but the defense adjusts - I'd like the OC to be able to adjust too and come up with something that still works.
I'm not joking. It's outside of the box but I love the way he opens up running lanes and finds seams in opposing defenses. Apparently, he's holding out for a college HC job. He's never coached in the NFL but has been asked to consult behind the scenes before.
Call me crazy too. I liked what Canada did for Pitt's offense - its pro style with some flash - he played to it strengths. My Guess from your screen name that you liked what he did in Maryland.
That is a good out of the box play caller. I would love them to interview him - but I would think they would have already done that by now.
Personally, I like the thought of having Garrett... Â
1.) His familiarity with the NFC East teams is a huge plus
2.) He is a former QB so he should have no issues working with Jones.
3.) Former Head Coach for Judge to listen / lean on through growing pains
4.) Garrett does not seem to have an ego.
All the above is MY views. I want Judge to pick who HE thinks is best for the NY football Giants
I stowed 3 reasons why he will get it on the first Shula thread. I will copy and paste here.

Good point Victor....the Saban tie does make it MUCH tighter for sure.
I think you're missing the point - there is no Saban tie. Shula was the HC that preceded Saban. And no Alabama link between Shula and Judge because Judge worked on Saban's staff, not Shula's.
Now, your point about Jones should not be dismissed, but Shula's connection to Alabama should be viewed as purely coincidental since it's not part of the same program lineage that Judge was a part of.
I've been saying Jay Gruden since the beginning. Â
He made Andy Dalton look good as an OC in CINN and Kirk Cousins look like he was worth something as HC in WASH. He's going to run the ball. He'd use Evan Engram properly if Jordan Reed is any example.
I don't know that he wants to be an OC again, but I think that would be a damn near HR hire.
1.) His familiarity with the NFC East teams is a huge plus
2.) He is a former QB so he should have no issues working with Jones.
3.) Former Head Coach for Judge to listen / lean on through growing pains
4.) Garrett does not seem to have an ego.

1 is meaningless. Both WAS and DAL have new coaches and schemes, and he couldn't beat PHI when the money was on the table
2 may or may not be true.
3 he was a mediocre head coach, not sure how much that helps
4 do we know that for sure??
is very likely. I just have a feeling the Panthers will throw considerable dollars at him -- Tepper has shown that he has no loyalty to the current coaching salary status quo.
1. John DeFillipo - Excellent at developing QBs. Would be able to help get the Giants inside info on the Eagles, and runs a great/QB friendly offense.
2. Jay Gruden - runs a great system, QB friendly, and has done a good job developing QBs (Dalton/Cousins)
3. Norv Turner - Veteran coaching presence. Superb at play calling and making use of RBs/TEs in the passing game.
4. Chad O'Shea - NE offensive scheme. Did more with less in Miami this past year, experience with other coaches on the staff.
....so of course, with all that said, it's guaranteed to be Jason Garrett.
I don't think Norv Turner will accept it because he is son is with the Redskins nor do I think he fits with what Judge has been doing so far. O'Shea I think had some run ins with our new QB coach so while he would make sense from knowing the scheme we don't need that competition on the staff. DeFillipo has had success developing QB's but my question to him is why does he keep getting fired? I like Jay Gruden, but he has no obvious ties to Judge. In addition, he served on Cincy staff with Hue Jackson who did not exactly get along with Freddie Kitchens. I don't think any OC would purposely try and torpedo a Head Coach because that would jeopardize any future job, but who knows. One name I would add to your list is former Philly OC Mike Groh. He has been on the same staff as Judge under Nick Saban and some of his looks in Philly seem to jive with what Judge has talked about wanting to run.

loafin, what the hell is wrong with you?! Being all rational with YOUR views vs. who Judge picks? You cray cray.
Since most people here didn't know who Judge was before being the HC, speculating on who he would want to work with as OC seems pretty foolish.
Who I would want and who Judge would want and who would be the best fit for the team are two different people (maybe three different)
1. He and Judge have a tie at Alabama. It appears Judge prefers guys with ties to Patriots or Crimson Tide.
2. Shula has OC experience at Tampa and Carolina and even was voted OC of the year in 2015 when Carolina went to the SB.

What, have you been hanging out at BBI for a while now? *grin*
I think Garrett's a class individual well suited to handle a "backseat" type of role to a newer, younger HC.
Served on Saban's 2005 Miami staff as QB coach. Local guy, previous ties to the organization.

A Norv Turner, Jim Schwartz, Wade Phillips type veteran coach who can lock down one side of the ball and you know what you're going to get.

I would be all in on Shula...
But I would go with Garrett
Right.. I love that mindset. Reminds me of Jim from The Office talking to Andy who feels Jim is being stiffled by Pam and seems unhappy-
“It’s so scary how right you are, and you’re coming at it with almost no knowledge so of course I trust your opinion on this”
And then, in game, when something isn't working well or it does work but the defense adjusts - I'd like the OC to be able to adjust too and come up with something that still works.
Is that unrealistic and too high expectations?
