1. John DeFillipo - Excellent at developing QBs. Would be able to help get the Giants inside info on the Eagles, and runs a great/QB friendly offense.
2. Jay Gruden - runs a great system, QB friendly, and has done a good job developing QBs (Dalton/Cousins)
3. Norv Turner - Veteran coaching presence. Superb at play calling and making use of RBs/TEs in the passing game.
4. Chad O'Shea - NE offensive scheme. Did more with less in Miami this past year, experience with other coaches on the staff.
....so of course, with all that said, it's guaranteed to be Jason Garrett.
I don't think Norv Turner will accept it because he is son is with the Redskins nor do I think he fits with what Judge has been doing so far. O'Shea I think had some run ins with our new QB coach so while he would make sense from knowing the scheme we don't need that competition on the staff. DeFillipo has had success developing QB's but my question to him is why does he keep getting fired? I like Jay Gruden, but he has no obvious ties to Judge. In addition, he served on Cincy staff with Hue Jackson who did not exactly get along with Freddie Kitchens. I don't think any OC would purposely try and torpedo a Head Coach because that would jeopardize any future job, but who knows. One name I would add to your list is former Philly OC Mike Groh. He has been on the same staff as Judge under Nick Saban and some of his looks in Philly seem to jive with what Judge has talked about wanting to run.
Interesting feedback. I had not heard that about O'Shea and Shuplinsky (sp?).
Mike Groh would be very interesting...and I do like that he worked under Saban.

DeFillipo's career has cratered the last couple of years. Canned by both Minny and Jax after one year. I think you have to stay away from him as OC at this point.

There was an article that someone posted in the QB Coach hire thread (I believe) which hinted at possible issues which may have been why O'Shea was let go.
is a name that's come up. Just fired, and Judge could have replaced him as Miss St. HC. But he was Saquon's OC at Penn State and maybe has some worthwhile info on how to maximize his skill set, design a running game that's a little more varied than running up the gut with a shotgun hand off, and figure out how to get him the ball in space.
Gruden has done well with a bunch of different QB's, supposedly was a fan of Jones in the draft, has been a successful OC, knows the division and has HC experience. And if he can bring Callahan with him, you get a top OL coach as well.
Obviously you need him to have alignment with Judge's vision of adaptability, but he seems like a really strong choice to me.
I'm not joking. It's outside of the box but I love the way he opens up running lanes and finds seams in opposing defenses. Apparently, he's holding out for a college HC job. He's never coached in the NFL but has been asked to consult behind the scenes before.
Call me crazy too. I liked what Canada did for Pitt's offense - its pro style with some flash - he played to it strengths. My Guess from your screen name that you liked what he did in Maryland.
That is a good out of the box play caller. I would love them to interview him - but I would think they would have already done that by now.
He was at NC State from 2013-2015 working mostly with Jacoby Brissett, sandwiched between the Mike Glennon and Ryan Finley years. He did aN okay job but overall our offense was not consistent, even with a young Hines and Samuels. Things got better when Canada left and was replaced by Eli Drinkwitz.
Has connection via Flores
Has worked with the QB coach
Head coaching experience with Indy and Lions
Got great years out of Manning and Stafford
Has a flexible system
Has health issues - better now
He's young, smart, and a NYC native. Plus he's half black and half white so he will appeal to both social justice warriors and racists alike. It would be another out-of-the-box move in keeping with the past few.
RE: RE: Personally, I like the thought of having Garrett... Â
1.) His familiarity with the NFC East teams is a huge plus
2.) He is a former QB so he should have no issues working with Jones.
3.) Former Head Coach for Judge to listen / lean on through growing pains
4.) Garrett does not seem to have an ego.
All the above is MY views. I want Judge to pick who HE thinks is best for the NY football Giants
loafin, what the hell is wrong with you?! Being all rational with YOUR views vs. who Judge picks? You cray cray.
Ha! And I still got bashed for my opinion! Welcome to BBI - where if you express an opinion you're an asshole!

Jordan Peele?? Get Out!
I've been disturbed by the lack of facial hair on the Giants HC and DC Â
selections. It just doesn't project an aura of toughness and winning. The OC needs a stache. A big one would be better. That's why I'm against Garrett.
1. Jay Gruden (he's probably going to take a year off though)
2. Mike McDaniel (49ers Running Game Coordinator)
3. Jim Caldwell
4. Jason Garrett (if he's interested)
5. Mike LaFleur (49ers Pass Game Coordinator)
6. Mike Kafka (Chiefs Quarterbacks Coach)
Hiring 2, 5, or 6 would make getting someone like Callahan as OL Coach even more needed, but I would not be against hiring one of the younger guys who have gotten coordinator buzz (Kafka is seen as Bieniemy's heir apparant in KC) or even Head Coach buzz (McDaniel and LaFleur were supposedly getting interest from Cleveland).
Interesting feedback. I had not heard that about O'Shea and Shuplinsky (sp?).

Groh would make some sense, but apparently he had major problems with Golden Tate in Philly so that hire might require Tate getting traded.

I would love Jim Caldwell, but it seems like Judge is going all youth with his staff hires so far. Also I wonder how Caldwell would feel about 2 guys that could be his sons with much less experience than him being HC and asst. HC and therefore BOTH above him in hierarchy. Unless we also make Caldwell an asst. HC, which would be interesting. Hey screw it how about we just make everyone an asst. HC?

Yes if you express an opinion your an ass. And if you defend your opinion, which may be different from others, then you are a troll
Wasnt really quick enough off the snap or had great enough balance for zone run blocking. And or rhe right tackle.
There's really no better time than now to fix that, if needed
Possibly Pio is barely good enough for the XFL and shouldn't even be on the roster yet our resident Hawg Mawllie expert thinks he's a bonafide NFL center. Can't make it up.

Lunda Wells is a good coach. Had TEs this year.
Obviously you need him to have alignment with Judge's vision of adaptability, but he seems like a really strong choice to me.
Turner and Caldwell are good too. Shula less so.

Link - ( New Window )
Or someone from the 9ers such as Mike McDaniel with Robert turner jr rbs or Joe Benton ol
Steelers hire ex-Pitt assistant Matt Canada as quarterbacks coach - ( New Window )
Seems like Seattle runs a decent system . The Jets back then maybe not as much
Then, again , how to feed off the shanny tree , Atlanta still would have some people or you promote from 9ers.
So far the OL piece is still hanging out there and one can love what those 3 teams probably do?
To do that one would need that line / RB system in place first.

I'm just suggesting to not preclude or exclude power or zone styles.
You may want both and that may go to tight end as well.

As long as the style that is preferred precludes Halapio from being on the roster, that's an upgrade.
