Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry, Bill Belichick, Sean Payton....

Matt Rhule.

The list of coach's above all were NY Giants assistants and were never offered a HC job. Obviously the first four are some of the greatest coach's in the NFL history.

Let us not forget that the NYG, after the worst 7-8 years potentially in NY Giants history, and worst record in the NFL, passed on their first choice because ownership did not want to pay as much $ for as many years as another NFL owner...That was the #1 reason and Mara was shockingly candid about that

If Rhule goes on to be anything like the first four coach's above, that is something that will be shared and passed on for generation and generation of Giants fans the same way my Grandfather told me about Lombardi + Landry.
Rhule was on the staff for a whopping one year

He's not comparable.
I'm sorry this is happening to you.

It is something that will never go away or be forgotten, and now Joe Brady too, I hope they got this one right.

Yeah, and take 2 Zanax every 6 hours, light up some splif, and stay far away from the liquor and firearms cabinets.
I am pretty sure the length of the contract was as much of an issue

I'll take a different angle on this one and say that Judge can become karmic payback to the New York Giants from the Football Gods for spreading the wealth to the rest of the NFL. Only time will tell.
I believe Landry was

I'm sorry but Sean Payton

Isn't remotely in the class of the other three and you want to talk about Matt Ruhle?

Really lame.
How do you handle life?

Landry and Lombardi
Pete in MD : 1/14/2020 7:43 pm : link
were both offered the job. Landry wanted to live in Texas and Lombardi didn't want to screw over Green Bay by leaving after only one year.
Lmao

The OP is incorrect.
bradshaw44 : 1/14/2020 11:15 pm : link
He didn’t pay Rhule because he wouldn’t even interview and wanted the Giants to match the panthers offer. What kind of idiot business owner buckles to the demands of a candidate with zero credentials at the level he’s refusing to interview for an amount that makes him the fifth highest paid person in the industry??

I say, no matter what happens, Mara made the right decision. And it’s not up for debate.

take it or leave contract over the phone with ever having met the candidate in ANY BUSINESS?!!

And for millionth time, Tom Landry left the Giants to go back to Texas in the oil business, NOT to go to the Cowboys. He was an engineer by trade, he and his wife didn't like living in NY and wanted to go home to Texas. He got to Dallas because the NFL got wind of Lamar Hunt trying to get him to coach the AFL Chiefs, so Wellington Mara introduced him to Clint Murchison to keep him in the NFL.
