Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry, Bill Belichick, Sean Payton....
Matt Rhule.
The list of coach's above all were NY Giants assistants and were never offered a HC job. Obviously the first four are some of the greatest coach's in the NFL history.
Let us not forget that the NYG, after the worst 7-8 years potentially in NY Giants history, and worst record in the NFL, passed on their first choice because ownership did not want to pay as much $ for as many years as another NFL owner...That was the #1 reason and Mara was shockingly candid about that
If Rhule goes on to be anything like the first four coach's above, that is something that will be shared and passed on for generation and generation of Giants fans the same way my Grandfather told me about Lombardi + Landry.
Yeah, and take 2 Zanax every 6 hours, light up some splif, and stay far away from the liquor and firearms cabinets.
Really lame.
I say, no matter what happens, Mara made the right decision. And it’s not up for debate.

And for millionth time, Tom Landry left the Giants to go back to Texas in the oil business, NOT to go to the Cowboys. He was an engineer by trade, he and his wife didn't like living in NY and wanted to go home to Texas. He got to Dallas because the NFL got wind of Lamar Hunt trying to get him to coach the AFL Chiefs, so Wellington Mara introduced him to Clint Murchison to keep him in the NFL.
