Since some of us are still in "new head coach press conference analysis" mode, I figured I'd check out Kevin Stefanski's press conference today.
Freddie Kitchens was a guy who had
one year of experience as an offensive coordinator before the Browns named him head coach over a locker room full of big egos. He was in over his head, and they fired him after one season.
So what do the Browns do? They hire a guy with
one year of experience as an offensive coordinator to be the new head coach over that same locker room of big egos.
Stefanski seems like a nice guy, but he sounds nervous -- short of breath, dry mouth. He's stumbling over words. He says he "wants to be the point guard for this organization. I want to bring the ball up, but then I want to share the basketball and let someone else get an easy bucket." (I don't even know what that means for a head coach of a football team.)
He said he's going to take his time putting together a staff (which doesn't seem wise on January 14), and he didn't rule out that he'd be calling the offensive plays for the Browns in 2020. His offense did not look good in the Vikings playoff loss to the 49ers (which should give us terrible flashbacks to Shurmur).
Of course, it's a press conference, so no one can predict how he'll turn out. But my impression of this guy from his press conference is that Mayfield will eat him for lunch.
At least most of us got a nice charge out of Judge's press conference. It felt good to feel good again for a few moments. I don't know how Browns fans can muster any enthusiasm whatsoever anymore for that team. This guy will probably be canned in two years.
And they still don't have a GM.
In case you wanted to check it out,the link is below.

Stefanski is Opra Winfrey
Thank a God, we got Judge !

He's going to give everybody a car?
OBJ arguably single-handedly bought Reese and Coughlin extra time with this team.
I'm just fascinated by how other NFL teams operate in different ways, good and bad. It's pretty tough to imagine this guy working out for the Browns.
hahahaha

hard to imagine anything working out for the Browns
Maybe Beckham can pass him some cash too
I can't understand why anyone would take that job. But there are only 32 of them.
(It is closer to $100 M than it is 0)
A far less experienced Pat Shurmur, in a very difficult situation.
I watched the entire Stefanski PC and he sounded like a measured, smart (went to Penn, so you would think that would impress those who prefer northeast roots), reasonable guy. He certainly wasn’t George Patton trying to rally the troops at the Battle of the Bulge, but I have never thought that was necessary to convince players to win football games.

aka the coach killer will cost this guy his job as well.

Not exactly. He bought Reese more time. The fact that Coughlin couldn’t control OBJ is what partially lead to his firing. OBJ is a coach killer and a team killer. He’s a distraction and you cannot have him with a rookie head coach. He will never listen. He didn’t listen to Coughlin or a 2 time Super Bowl mvp.

disagree on this - to an extent. Yes, nobody ever won a football game in a press conference...but players on these teams are all (at least, mostly) paying attention
There is serious buzz from all sources about Judge - no question the Giants who will be returning have noticed things will be different.
Judge still has to earn their trust and respect, and could still easily lose it depending on how he handles some inevitable losing early on.
But there's also no doubt players on other teams can be rolling their eyes behind the scenes when their new head coach sounds uncomfortable in front of a room.
