Bantering with an Eagles fan yesterday. Now I hate Philly and their fans, but he's actually a nice kid and has a decent football IQ. He's not one of those clueless mouth breathers. We discuss football often, and I generally agree with him. Obviously he views things through his green colored glasses, (he predicted Carson Wentz would win MVP this year), but he owns it when he's wrong about his team.
He emphatically stated that he would take Dak Prescott (even at this point in time)over Daniel Jones and said he doesn't even have to think about it. Of course, I told him he's crazy and "no way"
Afterwards, I had to think about this one. Remove your bias for a second and be completely neutral....does he have a point?
Long term, I feel good about Jones as long as Judge works out as a head coach.
Agreed....super nice kid and very personable
I actually visited a place in Philly based on his recommendation called Monks.....GREAT PLACE! Awesome beer list....best I have ever seen....

But it shouldn't be surprising if one is a nice kid and has a good football IQ. An Eagles fan is just somebody that happened to be born in Philly and the surrounding areas (most of the time). Sometimes we need to remember that.

Monks is awesome!
I used to go there and banter about nothing with a group of my friends....
We shall see of course, but I tend to align with this post.
As far as DJ is concerned, interested in year 2. We really need to see if he can throw the ball down field accurately and protect the football. Anyone claiming he is a franchise QB at this rate should tune their optimism filter down a bit.
In either case, if we are anywhere near the top of the 2021 draft, we should take Lawrence or trade up to get him.
I’d take jones over Prescott without thinking twice.
The 4th year guy has 4 All Pros on his OL.
Not to say he's a bad player. But he doesn't need to do a lot to be successful.
Personally, I would pick the upside potential of Jones over the competence of Dak, but I could understand others taking the opposite viewpoint.
But it’s an unfair comparison.
But if I had to win as many games as possible in 2020, I’m taking Dak.
Dak is not worth anything near the $$$ he is asking for. This would cripple a team.
We can only hope we get a decent OL for Jones soon. It seems he's never had one in college or the pros.

And I like Jones a lot. I wouldn’t trade DJ because he’s “our” guy, but it’s no sure thing he becomes a great or even very good QB.
Dak is a very good player and Dallas can win a Super Bowl with him for sure.
Really? Dak is playing on a team that many thought was a favorite to go to the Super Bowl this year. I think championship shirts were being printed after Week 4.
He's on a team regarded to have the best OL and a DC that people drool over and he's managed to have a 1-2 playoff record.
Dallas could win a SB with him, I guess, but he hasn't come close yet and that team is about to have to re-tool and just hired a new HC. If Dallas hasn't come close to a SB with the talent they have, you have to ask why.
I think when a Giants' fan takes the angle "what has Dak accomplished with a loaded Dallas squad?" he needs to consider both the strong national press bias in favor of Dallas (not addressing why but simply acknowledging it) and the meddlesome behavior of the Jones' family ownership and management.
Romo was a very, very good QB, arguably better than Eli game in/out over a long stretch, but he also never even played in an SB let alone garner two rings like Eli did. Some of that is Eli rising up in his biggest moments, some Romo falling down in his, but I guess a fair amount is something toxic in Dallas' ownership's relation to their coaching and their team.
Dak operates under the same flailing leadership.
Personally, if it is Dak+a massive contract vs. Jones on a rookie deal, I think it's a no brainer for Jones.
Lots of blue glasses on this thread.
Not sure Jones is that guy either but with him it's still possible.

Early in Eli's career it looked like he wouldn't be that guy (see '05 and '06 playoff games). Dak is still early in his career, we have no idea what the future holds, long way to go.
0. Only been accomplished 29 times in the last 5 seasons and a lot of the names are up there multiple times:
Brees: 7 TDs once, 5 TDs once
Mahomes: 6 TDs twice (surprisingly never 5, but 4 TDs 6x)
Eli/Trubisky: 6 TDs once
Jackson: 3x
Newton: 3x
Rodgers: 2x
Big Ben: 2x
Watson: 3x
Wilson: 3x
Bortles/Brady/Goff/Jones/Ryan/Stafford/Winson: 5 TDs once
Yes, Jones has a better preseason but he has displayed significant flaws. And Jones was the higher draft pick. The Giants had a chance to take Haskins and passed. Personally, I would not have taken either at #6.
In terms future career, its 50-50. If Jones doesn't cure his turnovers, he's dust.
I'd take Dak at this point

so non-Ravens fans looked at Jackson as a habitual fumbler too??

How many fumbles did Jackson have?
I see Jones had 18 and Jackson 9.
2019 Jones - 18 fumbles, 11 fumbles lost

I was looking at 2019 for both. Anyway 12 does not equal 18

I was wrong. I was referencing an article that talked about them having the same number of fumbles while as a passer. That's misleading. Looking further, they also tallied the total number of fumbles as 15 for Jackson and 18 for Jones, but they counted the playoff game
You were right. I should have just made up something like Jones was better in every meaningful category...
Jones has a big incomplete hanging on him right now. At the end of this year you'll have a much better picture of what Jones is and isn't. He has a lot of potential, but he has to cut down on the turnovers if he's going to move forward as a viable long term quarterback.
huh?
yep
