Let’s go outside the box ... maybe Garrett is not

Spider56 : 1/15/2020 5:43 pm
Interviewing for the OC job ... maybe he’s talking to DG and others about a front office role that sets him up to take over for DG in a year or two ...
Think about it ... he’s a very good evaluator of talent and certainly smart enough to be a good GM ... why would he take an OC job after being a successful HC for 10 years ? Maybe Callahan is a candidate for the OC job ? He’d provide the same experience base for JJ as Garrett would.

Thoughts ?
who knows

but its been said the giants owners really liked Garrett since his time here holding a clip board.
I'd assume..

instead of poking Gettleman with sharp tines on the pitchfork, the usual suspects will just use rusted, dull ones on Garrett and chant "The Giants Way" over and over again with each thrust.
I like that idea....

The Giants have needed some help with evaluating players whether they're free agents or veterans on the team, and they also need big help with draft selections.
The state that the defense is in is disgraceful, not Giant-like in any way, shape or manner. The offensive line has also been a joke for nearly a decade, so I think it's time to think out of the box.
Even though Garrett is a former Giants player, he hasn't been with the organisation for a very long time. He was pretty good at evaluating the players on the Cowboys, in spite of the meddling from their crazy owner.

And chanting "Jints Central" all the while.
So that leaves Abrams out to lunch

does it not.
I think Garrett is overrated by BBI

Dallas has mostly underachieved or worse during his tenure. No indication he's been a key part of talent evaluation or has any ability to run a front office, etc.

Who cares? If the braintrust feels that Garrett would be a better option, why does Abrams matter? It's not like they haven't had ample time to evaluate his potential as a GM.

That said, I doubt this is why they met with Garrett. But if it was, it's because Mara thinks Garrett would be a better option than Abrams.

Yeah I don’t see him in a front office role with Abrams there.
No

it's pretty clear he's being interviewed for OC.
Ok ... and I’ll be happy if he’s our OC ...but ...
Spider56 : 1/15/2020 6:49 pm : link
I’ll also be surprised ... being the HC in Dallas for 10 years made him almost royalty down there ... the charity he and his wife started have hosted Laura Bush and other A listers ... No kids, both highly educated, an OC gig at this point in their lives (mid fifties) just doesn’t seem right. ... but que sera, que sera,
I always assumed

Jerry and Stephan did all the player evaluation and team-building and Garrett was just expected to "coach'em up."

The team, yes. But his offenses, on the whole, were pretty good. He is not a good HC, but as an OC, we could do worse.

Frankly, I don't really know what people want. Mention Joe Brady, and people complain he's never been a play caller, etc. Garrett has been a play caller, and those offenses generally performed pretty well. My preference would have been Joe Brady, but we did not get him. So, on to the second option.
I think Garrett still wants to be a HC again. That is why he groveled

before Jones. You can’t get back to being HC from the Assistant GM seat.

I thought the same. I don't think we have any idea what kind of talent evaluator Garrett is. He might be okay as the OC but as a potential future GM, who knows.

How do we know he's a good evaluator of talent?
Section331 : 1/16/2020 8:41 am : link
I don't see Jerry Jones giving too much authority to his HC to pick players. If Garrett is coming here, it is as OC. No need to overthink it.
i wonder if it'd be awkward for JJ

there are no visible signs of insecurity about Judge. Anyone he interviews has to see things his way, ( the Pats way of being flexible and diverse). I’ve never gotten the feeling Garrett is that way. His offenses are very structured and predictable. Pretty good kind you, but not really a fit for what Judge wants. Remember, he said at his presser that they may throw the ball 50 times one week and run it 40 the next. I have my doubts that JG can run that kind of offense.

Thanks but that article was basically about a single draft pick. Granted it was a good pick but I still don't think Garrett had much influence and certainly not more (or maybe as much) as any other HC in the league.
