Teddy Bridgewater May Impact QB Draft

DeepBlueJint : 1/16/2020 8:03 am
I believe he can be a franchise QB. The Panthers, Patriots, Jaguar and possibly San Diego, Oakland and Miami may consider acquiring him. What this means is he could possibly impact one team to not move up. My belief is the Panthers would be ideal. He played for New Orleans in the same division. The Panthers got to know him and his skills quite well. He gives them mobility and accuracy. And it appears he is now healthy. If this happens then Tua and Hebert are in play from #2 to #4. Giants should be getting lots of calls.

Kinda feel bridgewater is in the milk it

Stage of his career. Just roll from contender to contender as a great back up and get paid like osweiler.

He's 27. Played great the 5 games Brees was out. I'd think he wants to start.
Nope

not a issue at all.

Check down Charlie is a franchise qb?
what..
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/16/2020 8:25 am : link
the Panthers learned about Bridgewater last season is basically irrelevant now. And if he was brought here, it would be as a stop gap for a QB drafted this year.

I don't know enough about Rhule to know if Bridgewater would be a fit for this offense, but I would be surprised if he's a Panther next season.

Newton will likely be traded or cut so a vet QB could be brought in - or the Panthers may try to get to the top of the draft to get a QB and have that QB tied to Rhule's tenure as coach. That's a much more likely option in my opinion, especially with Luke retiring, Olsen retiring and a rebuild that will happen.

seem like a good fit to me. And that leaves our trade-down targets in the draft in tact.
I'd also..

question how well the Rivera-coached Panthers got to know Bridgewater since he didn't face them as a starter.

The panthers want a stop gap qb. You sign mariota for a one year contract

Newton to New England, Las Vegas, Miami (while Tua backs up and heals more), Skins (you never know with Snyder), LAC (If no Brady) and maybe if released New Orleans- if Brees retires.
Not sure your view of Bridgewater
Mike from Ohio : 1/16/2020 8:35 am : link
Is consistent with that of most fans or NFL people. Bridgewater played well for the Saints and he showed he can keep a team playing well when they are talented and deep across the board. But he played on a stacked team with one of the best offensive minds in the game for a coach.

I think Bridgewater is a better fit for a team looking to draft a young QB and have him learn for a while. Bridgewater can run most offenses and would likely not force that team to play their top pick until he was ready and they had a decent team around him. But is he the kind of guy you build a team around? I don’t think so.
Brees could retire.
rasbutant : 1/16/2020 8:37 am : link
Or move on in FA. Not likely but he could.

Tom Brady and Phillip Rivers could go to one of those teams. Heck Lions could trade Stafford and draft one of the young guys themselves. Oh and don't forget Eli!

Also, someone might believe in Cam Newton, Marcus Mariota, or Winston. What if Titans can't get Ryan Tannehill signed? What if Cowboys decided to pick up any of the guys mentioned above and let Dak go in FA.

Lots of if's.
I still..
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/16/2020 8:47 am : link
believe it is close to a 50/50 decision on whether or not Cam retires. He has more off the field interests every year and I don't think he ever wants to reach permanent washed-up status. He's also friends with Julius Peppers who has encouraged him to pursue those outside interests.

I would think that solution isn't even being discussed. In a case like that, they'd rather just develop a QB drafted this year. Even if they are looking to 2021 for a QB, they would make a different choice.
Yeah, I don't think

Teddy is a franchise QB. He is an excellent, viable, hold the fort for numerous games type QB.
Panthers or Chargers may be the best fit but he is a transition QB
Ivan15 : 1/16/2020 9:26 am : link
to the next franchise QB in any case. No one is going to throw a long term contract with starter money at him. In my opinion.
Rebuild
Archer : 1/16/2020 9:36 am : link
Any team that is in a rebuild mode will prefer to select their QB via the draft.

Bridgewater would be good for a team that has aspirations to compete next year.

He can be a winning QB on a good team as evidenced by his play with New Orleans.

There are other Qbs such as Mariotta, Winston, and Newton who may be available. I would consider them in the category as Brigewater.
Why
Toth029 : 1/16/2020 9:40 am : link
Even mention Jags? Minshew is better and much younger (and cheaper).

Joe Brady might like him from his stint in New Orleans.
Let's just wait until the Senior Bowl,
barens : 1/16/2020 10:07 am : link
we'll see how much of an impact Justin Herbert makes. I'm not worried about Bridgewater making a dent in teams thinking, seems like a non-issue.
I'd lean..
FatMan in Charlotte : 1/16/2020 10:11 am : link
towards a non-issue. If any of the teams desperately seeking a QB want to go with Bridgewater over a draftee as a long-term solution, that seems unlikely. Either they make the pick and Bridgewater is a stop gap vet until the rookie learns, or he goes somewhere to compete for a starting job with a vet. I don't really see many scenarios where that might happen though. Maybe Indy? Rams? Chargers?
Why would a team want to over pay for a QB that has proven to have
bradshaw44 : 1/16/2020 10:12 am : link
injury issues, rather then roll the dice with a new fresh, cheap, high ceiling rookie?

I could see CAR trading up with Cincy for a kings ransom to get Burrow matched back up with Brady.
I don’t believe people see Teddy as THE MAN
5BowlsSoon : 1/16/2020 10:22 am : link
Based on injuries. Plus, I don’t even believe NO values him enough to keep him.

I can see Carolina wanting to trade up for Burrow, but I think this is one of those times when the people who think "you can always trade up for a QB" are wrong.

Cincy desperately needs a QB and Burrow is a Heisman Trophy winning, record setting, national champion... and he's from Ohio. Cincy is not going to pass on Burrow no matter what kind of draft ransome they're offered.

I’ll never understand the hoopla over this guy. He’s a jag. He’s not terrible never been terrible but he’s never ever ever displayed elite QB traits. He broke his leg in 100 pieces and was a good dude before and after the injury so I get why people root for him, but to be he’s not even Casey keenum.

Any qb worth a wet shit would play OK in the saints system. And that’s what bridgewter did there. He held the fort for a month or so.

This. Bridgewater isn't stopping any team from doing what they feel they need to do to acquire one of Burrows, Tua, or Herbert.

I don't know enough about the QBs one tier down, or even if the NFL sees those 3 as all +/- "top tier."

But IMO for now, until we have more info, that's the way this draft will likely shake out. Bridgewater's availability doesn't alter that at all.

I could see Tepper's desire to do this and get the fan base all pumped about the possibilities. But I think it won't happen for two reasons - 1) They would likely need to trade their entire draft to get that pick from Cincy; and 2) There is a lot of love for Cam Newton in Charlotte. Violently throwing him aside will churn up quite a bit of controversy.
There are seven teams in the top 14 of the Draft...
Torrag : 1/16/2020 12:36 pm : link
that could be in the QB market. There will be plenty of calls made exploring trade ups.

I didn't mean it would happen, just that I could see it happening if CAR comes with the right offer. Which could be Ricky Williams Herschel Walker-esque.
