I don't ever recall seeing cops in locker rooms?

The officer in question was employed by the Superdome; he wasn't New Orleans police.

Most people would call that a security guard, not a cop.

Where did you find this info? Nothing in the linked article stats he is an employee of the Superdome. All reports say he is an officer

Probably why OBJ wasn't arrested on the spot. New Orleans police have now issued the arrest warrant based on video evidence of the slap on the Superdome officer.

I think the charge is fair. Keep your hands to yourself. Guy with badge - ( New Window )

He probably is a cop working as security. Regardless, why does the Super dome have them in the locker room? Were they afraid LSU would trash the locker room? I just don't get it.
I more surprised he actually

This article refers to him as a security officer, though he's clearly a police officer. I assume he's there being paid by the arena (or possibly the team), as is typical at some sporting events. Police would have no cause to be there on their own.

OBJ has no moral compass
Rudy5757 : 1/16/2020 2:08 pm : link
There are things that grown men should know and disrespecting cops and people in authority is something that he should know is wrong at this point in his life. If this was one of the College kids you could give it a pass possibly. OBJ is 27 years old and is still clueless.

Not only did he slap his ass which is bad enough but then he got in his face and disrespected him even more. OBJ proves on a regular basis why he is not good for a team. He is a great talent that others look up to and he continually leads others down the bad path. He doesnt learn and makes bad choices over and over again and then blames others for over reacting.

I dont know what the punishment should be but it is another reason why I am glad he no longer represents the NY Giants. For those that are blaming the cop for being a dick thats the wrong way to look at it. The cop is there to protect and uphold the law and while in uniform should be respected. that is what is wrong with the world today, too many people show no respect to anyone but feel like they should get respect.

lol

And I decided to take my 3 oldest kids to a local bookstore after dinner. As I’m parking, a cop pulls up and flashes his lights. He rushes up to the window and starts sticking his flashlight in my face and shining it around the car. Very hostile vibe. He gets my license and registration and goes back to his car and spends a good solid 10 minutes running my info. Eventually comes back and says my registration sticker expired a day or two ago. I’m puzzled but I look and in on the console the new sticker is sitting there, still in the envelope — my wife had left it for me and I absent-mindedly didn’t see it. Whoops.

So I apologize humbly and say here it is officer, would it be okay if I just put it on now? He responds in an extremely aggressive way that it was a clear violation and did I have a problem with it (“no officer”), then goes back to his car, and returns with a $100 ticket. After this lovely little 20 minute interlude, we walk into the bookstore in awkward silence.

So ... the cop was a prick. Neither protected not served a dad taking his kids to the bookstore after a long day of work. But ... as an adult in our society, one of the things you have to absolutely learn is ... don’t fuck with cops. Zero good comes out of it. Slapping a cop in the ass and then doing a taunting dance? OBJ has a long road ahead of him if this any indication of his judgment.

Thanks for that link. Ive never seen another stadium security guard have a badge on his uniform like that, which leads me to believe he is definitely a cop. Either getting outsourced or assigned to the detail.

Im interested to know why he was giving them a hard time about the cigars. Makes you think something happened prior to the recording

matters. slapping someones butt in a locker room after a big win in the context of dancing and celebrating shouldn't rise to the level of the crime of assault and battery. also: cops always use discretion in deciding who to arrest.

im not defending OBJ here or saying he is a smart guy. i am glad he's no longer a giant. it seems like he is mentally ill. i just don't think it's an arrestable offense and to call it assault or battery is defining downward what assault and battery is.

i realize cops like deference and respect. i learned as a teen that if you're a dick to cops (verbally) they'll be a dick back and try and make your life as miserable as they can. and its definitely the case that OBJ was acting disrespectfully. he also was probably caught up in the moment or caught up in being the center of attention and making a spectacle of himself and didn't intend disrespect. again not defending him. i think he is mentally unhinged. it's kind of sad to see what a joke he's become.

now, i haven't watched the video- maybe it's egregious and i would be shocked and appalled if i saw it. but from reading about it doesn't sound like any real harm was done.

if it was a privately employed superdome security person/citizen who made a complaint/report to NO PD, it's a different story. the police are almost obligated to investigate/make an arrest given the high-profile nature of it. at any rate, i'll be curious to see what he's charged with. can't imagine he'll serve time over it.

and if it turns out it amounts to just a fine and a viral video/media moment, OBJ gets what he wanted all along and then some: to drive the sports news cycle and have everyone talking about him.
I saw this often in the schools ...

When I was teaching 15 year-olds. They got mad at me when I told them they were acting like "kindergarteners". And yes, they tried to use the "respect card" . OBJ is 10 years older and he's stuck in a four year old mentality.

Similar issue for me a few years back. Live in Maryland and was driving in DC for a conference around 8am. Get pulled over by a DC cop and have no idea why. I saw him sitting on the side and then he came out and pulled me down. Then a second officer comes and he/they is/are taking a while with my info. He comes back and says that my registration was expired. Long story short, I was never notified by MD MVA and there was some sort of computer glitch so he didn't give me a ticker. As I drove off, I was like WTF? Don't the DC cops have anything better to do than bust peoples chops who don't even live in the district. With all the crime flying around in DC, I think the time spent by two different officers could have been much better. Get a god damn meter maid/butler to run around and write tickets for that shit.
What would peoples opinions be if the Cop had smacked Odell's ass?

Mine was in the parking lot of Politics & Prose on Conn Ave. The cop was looking for trouble, sticking his flashlight a few inches from my face and I have zero doubt that if I had said anything but yes sir, no sir, things would have gone downhill quickly. the smack definitely seemed like it was intentionally disrespectful and OBJ is definitely a look-at-me dick/headcase and i have zero sympathy for him regardless of what happens legally- but he's getting what he wants, which is to have everyone talking about him in sports news and on the internet.

i'd be surprised if the punishment amounted to more than a small fine.

seriously this is the SECURITY GUARD's fault for putting himself in the middle of place he was not wanted or NEEDED.

Always someone else's fault beside OBJ. Now its the stadiums fault for putting a security guard in the locker room. OBJ wasn't forced to slap him, mock him, or give college athletes illegal cash either for that matter. But ok, he did all that because the stadium assigned a security guard. Poor misunderstood Odell.

there are often officers in the locker room and outside of the locker room. Most of the time they are state police officers assigned to cover the team.

I don't know if this is a case like that, but I know there have been officers in the Clemson locker room after games.

I'm surprised you guys have watched college games, especially with Florida St. in the past and not even seen an officer escorting Bowden to the post-game handshake and eventually to the locker room

That's true, and he handled the aftermath of that by taking responsibility for his poor actions.

People who look for opportunities to play the race card are just the worst.

What Gronk does is mostly harmless fun. I can't remember a time where he hasAnd I have defended OBJ multiple times in the past, where I've felt he was taking undeserved criticism, but to bring the race card INTO THIS SITUATION where he is CLEARLY over the line and in the wrong, it just makes the poster (giantsfan2000) look like an absolute idiot.

Per USA Today. I wouldn’t think it would lead to anything more than a fine. That’s proportional to the misdeed. Unlike that Georgia case, which makes it sound like the alleged perp attacked a US Army unit.

yeah it could justify a simple assault charge. If he had slapped him in the face - no one would question it. He's impulsive, immature - but let's not go crazy over this.

But, kind of a dumb position to put the cops in. Probably, more prudent for cop to grab one of the coaches and have them direct players to put the cigar out - that's a better choice than arresting someone for a minor offense celebrating National Championship.
gotta have them
