If we get a compensatory 3rd round pick for Landon Collins can we give that to the Jets instead of our top of the third round pick. I can't find the official trade wording. If we could give the the compensatory 3rd rounder, I am less distressed by the trade.
BJ Hill and Carter, may never be anything like LW.
Besides, if we get another 3rd as a comp pick it's a wash,
Name one 3rd round pick the last 15 years besides Tuck who has done anything worth a second contract? I would say chances are the majority of them were busts.
Depends on which fan you ask. Some like the trade!
Not True. That use to be the case, but has since been changed.
Incorrect, they can be traded BUT they have to be awarded first. I don't think there has been anything official from the NFL stating the Giants definitely got a 3rd comp pick FOR 2020.

cannot be traded at all.

^This.
I believe they changed that rule. Now they can be traded.

Wow. TIL! Thanks!
But, yes, we could theoretically use the Collins pick as a conditional part of the trade. The trading partner - the Jets - would have to agree...

That may be the worst logic I've ever seen. 3rd round picks are premium picks, even though we have sucked at them the past few years. Should we give away top 10 picks because we drafted Apple and Flowers in consecutive years, and they busted? The point is you need picks like those to rebuild. They are cheap players, and successful teams hit on those picks. Good teams don't give them away for impending FAs.
Even late round picks are important to hoard. Because they are dart throws. Sure, most 5th round picks are going to stink. But once in a while you get a George Kittle or Richard Sherman or other guys that become all pros. The more dart throws you have, the better chance you have of hitting a bullseye.
And when you are speaking about 3rd round picks, guys like Mario Manningham and Justin Tuck were 3rd round picks for us that played major roles in us winning our two SB titles.
And getting a comp pick is not a trade off, because we are dropping about 35 spots from the top of the 3rd to the bottom of the 3rd.
And as mentioned many times before, you don't get x pick for y player. Compensatory picks are assigned using a formula that nets who you lost in free agency with who you signed and the relative value of their contracts. It is not as simple as losing a high priced free agent give you a 3rd round comp pick.

last 2 3rd round picks haven't done much yet. I would say it was worth the price. He's a known quantity at this point and you know what your getting.

If people want to argue that LW is not worth both a 3rd RD pick and the cost of the contract, then they have a case. But despite the exceptions (which has happened in every round of the draft) a team does NOT usually get a player as talented as LW in RD 3.
"It is essentially the Rams' karmic payback for fleecing the Redskins back in 2012 for a treasure trove of picks that led to the selection of Robert Griffin III. The terms are as follows: Tennessee gets: Rams' first-round pick (2016), two second-round picks (2016), a third-round pick (2016), a first-round pick (2017) and another third-round pick (2017)."
I thought one those thirds was one the Rams received because we signed Jenkins.
See the link. Might give you a different opinion...?

It's far from a wash. It's the 68th pick vs. somewhere around #98.
I was worried that it got past Noon...

We are giving up our 3rd round pick. 68th overall. It was a horrific trade.

Super, when you have posters describing a trade which has elicited legitimate debate among some, as “horrific” there is really no sense in debating it further with that party.
I have always found it incredibly frustrating to discuss issues with people who speak in absolutes, their closed mindedness makes objective dialogue next to impossible.

You can't trade a pick you don't have. Comp picks were not awarded at the time of the trade.

Maybe we're due?
We got a "known quantity" that will cost more than his market value because he knows he has ahold of DGs nuts.
