It was a college all-star game with players from colleges in the north against those from colleges in the south. Always played in Alabama on Christmas Day.
For some reason a quote from Bill Parcells has stayed in my mind - he was talking about what some rookie did in preseason and said "This ain't the Blue-Grey Game!"

just that Parcells said it and I always thought it was funny. The Blue-Grey Game was not the highest quality because a lot of the best players were in New Year's Day bowl games.

Many of my Christmas Days growing up visiting my aunt’s house had that game in the background. I remember it well.

That was when they only had a handful of bowl games. Now with so many college teams playing in bowls they can only have 2 college all star games after the national championship is played.
Those were the "good ole days". At half-time, they'd have a pageant
with the Cotillion girls in their Antebellum gowns.
That's when "girls were girls & men were men"
Our little town in Texas (Abilene), had a player who played in that game (QB) in '62. He played college ball at Hardin- Simmons for Sammy Baugh and later for Sonny Werblin's old New York Titans. His name was Earnest "Hayseed" Stevens.
He won't be able to go himself if he doesn't. Heard more than once on NFL Radio that any HC with open spots can't walk 10 feet in Mobile without having their ears chewed off by coaches looking for work.
He said in his press conference that he's a strong talent evaluator. As a fan I would like to see him there to watch the practices in person.
