Name Your Moves - 2 FAís and 2 Draft Picks Going Into 2020

Saos1n : 1/16/2020 5:01 pm
Play GM for a minute. Limited to 2 FA signings and 2 draft selections to transform (as much as possible) this team going into next season. Understanding that some FA are going to get tagged, but as long as they arenít currently, no need to speculate.

Mine
Sign Yannick Ngakoue
Sign Jack Conklin

Draft Isaiah Simmons
Draft Tyler Biadasz

Whatís your plan?
I would draft the 2 best olineman avaiable and look to pick up

the best 2 DB's available in FA.

Two players

Sign Jack Conklin. We need at least two new starters on the line, at minimum (RT and C). Have to address at least one of those positions in free agency.

Sign Yannick Ngakoue

Draft Jedrick Wills Jr. - I'm assuming Okudah is gone and I rather we really beef up the line with two bookend tackles.

Draft Justin Jefferson, WR

Yeah, I'm going offense/offense. I think we sign a few more free agents on the defensive side of the ball.

You speaking 1 CB, 1 FS? I think a veteran CB would be a good thing for the young group. Wish Denver wouldnít tag Simmons, but itís probably going to happen.

Ngakoue could def be tagged. Conklin wonít be, IMO. They declined the 5th year option last off season for him. It would be surprising for them to apply the tag after declining the option.

Just my two cents

My only hesitation with the OT class, is, can any of them be a franchise LT? Canít take a RT that high, IMO.

If they dealt down, well then, hell yeah. Just canít see DG being anything but stubborn.

I like Conklin and Joe Schobert as FAs too.

Isaiah Simmons and Troy Dye are high on my list, as are Tyler Badass, Nick Harris, and Cesar Ruiz.

we need fast LBs in the worst way. Center is the next highest priority for me, followed by OT.
2 FA.... RT Conklin and C Connor McGovern from Denver
No Where Man : 1/16/2020 5:35 pm : link
Try to trade down in the draft but no lower than the Top 10. Then select the best OT available with the first pick. The second choice best CB or S available.
Conklin
BigBlueNH : 1/16/2020 5:37 pm : link
It would have been MUCH cheaper to pick up his 5th year option than pay him franchise tag $$ for an OT. He is definitely hitting the market, altho could re-sign with Titans. Tho, i think they have cap problems, so unlikely.

Combined 8 INTs, 33 PDEFs, (both top 10 in PDEFs), both make plays on the ball.

Draft:
OT Becton
C Biadasz
I'm going to just spend more than a 1/3rd of
allstarjim : 1/16/2020 5:46 pm : link
the expected available salary cap on two guys, and they are going to be two out of this trio:

Ngakoue, Bud Dupree, and Shaquil Barrett.

I'm a convert, Ngakoue is priority, but if it's not him, then Barrett (will be interesting to see if he shakes loose from Tampa).

If I get two out of those guys, the defense is going to be pretty stout.

The bad side of this, that's going to be a lot of money tied up in those two guys, and we'll still need another 18 players or so to get to 53, but it's doable.

Draft: Trade down! - This scenario - to pick #7.

Jedrick Wills or Andrew Thomas & Mekhi Becton or Prince Tega-Wanogho

I'm double-dipping at OT also, because it's an expensive position to fill and right now, the only reasonably projectable OT on the roster beyond the 2020 season is Nick Gates, and this is an incredibly important position for us to get right.

I was going to type out my 2+2, but it would be redundant so I just copied and pasted yours.

Ngakoue would make our defense immediately more fearsome
Conklin would solidify the right side of the line
Simmons would be a terror in the db field
Biadasz would anchor the center of the line at a pro bowl level keeping Daniel upright

These 4 guys would transform the entire team.

If I could add just one more FA, it'd be Byron Jones to play opposite Baker and giving veteran presence to our young CBs

See your point but with the dearth of talent on defense Jones can only help.
I heard Mara on the fan last week and he seemed lukewarm about free agency this year. I hope I read this wrong but he seemed to be sincere. if the Giants are not willing to part with a chunk of money to improve the team I have season tickets for sale.

Im hesitant on Barrett. Where was this early on? Contract year focus? Also, Iíd be down with cluster drafting OL. Iíd actually be ok without any other resources spent on the offensive side of the ball, if they invest in the OL. Get Barkley and Jones comfortable back there. Only way to do that is building the line

I didnít hear that on the Fan. Wouldnít surprise me though. FA pool is bleak.
I'll play - FA's Logan Ryan, Kyle Van Noy, Draft Simmons + best OL #36
Eric on Li : 1/16/2020 6:05 pm : link
a LB core featuring Simmons, Connelly, and Kyle Van Noy is a great start in the right direction. Logan Ryan is smart and tough player who can factor in the slot or at safety. Both of the veterans are familiar with the Pats way of doing things so they should help the rest of the team figure out the new system too. Neither should break the bank.

With the 2nd draft pick I'm just saying 'best OL'. I don't care who it is - it could be Biadasz or Becton or whoever. A tackle would be preferred but a center is also needed. If the value isn't there I'd be ok with another position, but obviously they need to keep adding talent on the OL.

This was going to be my 2+2 also. If we can somehow pull that off we'd immediately fill four holes on the team and still have some more FA$ and draft picks to fill some more.

The only thing that would make this even better for me is if we get a sweet offer to trade back 1-2 spots to a QB needy team. Get whatever we could in picks and still be able to get Simmons.

I originally had Shaquil Barrett instead of Ngakoue, but I see Ngakoue is younger and more feared. The question for me is which would be better if we assume we get Terrell Lewis? I thought Barrett was more of a classic LB but I guess he is basically an edge rusher.

Terrell Lewis is an absolute beast in my mind. He seems like a poor man's Chase Young. I think he would be a steal early in the 2nd round and I think we can get him there. PASS RUSHERS. That's really what we need to get back to the "Giant Way".

Lewis and then Nagakoue/Barrett on the other side book-ending the D-Line would change this defense overnight, especially with Okudah improving our pass defense. DeAndre Baker was much better in man coverage for his college career and then Bettcher had him playing zone all year. I could imagine Okudah and Baker on opposite sides one day being a tandem of shut down man -corners, and I'm being serious!

I think you're probably right that they won't tag him, but the 5th year option for top-10 picks is generally not too far from the franchise tag unless the position they play happens to be especially top heavy with only a few highly paid players.

Since the 5th year option happens before the 4th season and is guaranteed for injury (and Conklin has had some injury issues, particularly during the 2018 season that would have immediately preceded Tenn's decision on the option), declining the option to make the 4th year a cheaper show-me may have been their plan all along. If that's the case, and they do want to retain him going forward, the tag may very well be in play.

Good points Gatorade

Just to clarify. Conklinís 5th year option would have been around $12.8M. The franchise number is $16.1M. Transition tag is $14.6M

I could see them declining the option, due to recent injuries and grade him out this year.
