Former Cowboys OC Linehan to interview with NYG

Big Rick in FL : 1/17/2020 8:42 am
As well as the Panthers & Jaguars this weekend. Doesn't seem like it's for the OC job just a spot on the staff.

He's worked with Garrett a bunch both in Miami and Dallas. Wonder if this has anything to do with Garrett.

Thanks Defender. Twitter is blocked at work so I can't copy and paste tweets.
Would be interesting for us since
Chris684 : 1/17/2020 8:45 am : link
we already have QB and WR coaches in place.

Is it possible that Garrett would be OC with Linehan in some "passing coordinator" role with Callahan as OL coach and "run game" coordinator?
That would def be a demotion
Saos1n : 1/17/2020 8:46 am : link
Most recently, hes been OC/Passing Game Coordinator. WR coach as well, but Tolbert was retained.

QB coach? Hasnt done that in a number of years

Never mind that. QB coach has been filled.
Who is the QB coach again?

He was out of the NFL in 2019
Big Rick in FL : 1/17/2020 8:49 am : link
So he's probably not getting an OC job. I'd assume passing game coordinator like he was in 2014 with Dallas.

Garrett as OC

with Linehan as pass game coordinator and Callahan as OL coach and run game coordinator would be a meeting of the offensive minds from the 2014 Dallas team that went 12-4 and lost in the divisional round to Green Bay on the Dez no catch call.

Best knock on wood after posting that. I've learned to never trust it until announced. Just look at the Rhule outcome.

This interview is being forced by Mara and DG.

It hasn't really been made clear whether or not there is still bad blood between Garrett and Callahan. If they've patched things up, I'd have to imagine Callahan would be intrigued to be a run game coordinator of an attack featuring Barkley.

Have to love how JM and DG keep forcing these interviews on Judge. He is obviously not his own man. You can see JM's and DG's fingerprints all over the Graham signing. I've heard that DG will be wearing a headset and will be able to call the play into the QB next season.....

FMiC, rationale for that? If the Garrett notion otherwise (than from Mara/DG pressure) makes sense as experienced former HC and prior ties to Linehan, how does interest in the latter not pass smell test?

Yes, and it is also pointing to a full news dump when it all happens in one swirl. Ie- I could see them just announce Garrett, Callahan and Linehan at once and get them all ready to go to the Senior bowl next week.

Furthermore, practices start Tuesday and that's probably more important than the actual game. I'd have to think the Giants will wrap up their staff this weekend and they all head out to the Senior Bowl.

He worked well with Favre. Favre had a great year in 2009 when he played for the Vikings. They should have beaten the Saints in that game.

Yes, because someone named Joe Judge has had such a working relationship with someone named Jason Garrett...
that it is not humanly possible for the Owner and GM
to ask the baby HC to interview Garrett.
Since both have had a relationship with Garrett in the past, just saying. Is that 'haiku' working?
(From other thread)
That is how it works, okay, got it, sounds like FTL.

Looking at the bios
Eric from BBI : Admin : 1/17/2020 9:49 am : link
As folks have already pointed out, a Garrett-Linehan-Callahan offensive "braintrust" would be like putting an old Cowboys band back together.

But I wonder if Callahan would be willing to accept a demotion all the way back to position coach. And as Yankee28 pointed out, there is some tension between Garrett and Callahan.

Looking at their bios... interesting to note that all three have been NFL head coaches. Also, Callahan has coaches for every NFC East team except the Giants.
Just Garrett filling out his staff
PatersonPlank : 1/17/2020 9:49 am : link
He probably needed to wait until Jan 14 for some bonus/contract reason.
Mara was quoted other day
Dr. D : 1/17/2020 9:51 am : link
saying basically he would be fine with JG as OC, but "at the end of the day, it's Joe's decision".

What exactly the f*ck is wrong with that?

And would it really be such a BFD if Mara and/or DG suggested the interview, as long as "at the end of the day, it's Joe's decision"?

Eric, they don't need Linehan.
They hired a QB coach, wouldn't mind Callahan with Garrett, need some coaches around here.

Judge wants to be the CEO of the entire operation. I'm on record well before he was hired saying the next coach has to be a CEO.

Judge said he wants the OC to coach the offense. If Garrett says he wants Linehan, then give him Linehan.

@toddarcher
He oversaw Tony Romos best season in 2014 and Dak Prescott won Rookie of the Year with him in 2016. Plus DeMarco Murray and Ezekiel Elliott won three rushing titles. Didnt end well in Dallas but he was better than folks care to admit.

No Linehan. Actually, I like Callahan and no Garrett. Garrett has experience and nothing else. Never won anything in Dallas with talented teams. I have no idea who else is being looked at. I wonder how much input Judge has on the Garrett situation.
