Supposed to win the super bowl that year. I think people forget how big of a favorite they were. Does anyone remember the Doritos commercial that ran all season? A bunch of cowboy players were hitch hiking through the desert. Jerry Jones pulls up in a car and says, “where are you going?”...they say “super bowl”, he says, “get in”...and they drive away. That commercial pissed me off all season!
Beating Dallas in Dallas in the playoffs would have made the season a success. Everything else is the cherry on top. And I think the drive at the end of the 1st half is one of the most important drives in recent Giant history.
Dallas scores with under a minute to go up 14-7, and had all of the momentum. Eli takes them down the field in 50 seconds for the tying TD. If they don't score there, I don't think they win.
I think Coach Coughlin also deserves some credit. Some coaches would've been more conservative and not gone for it with just 47 sec. They may have tried to get into FG range, but TC, Gilbride and Eli went for it and I think that 7 had to take some steam out of the cowboys heading into the locker room.
Thankfully Jerry ran off Parcells or Dallas probably would have won multiple Super Bowls with that team. If the QBs swapped sides that day the Cowboys would have won by 3 TDs. The Giants were out gained 336-230 TOP possession was 36:30 to 23:30 for Dallas. But Eli was brilliant when he did have the ball and Romo choked under the pass rush in the 4th qtr.

biggest play of that drive IMO was a facemasak penalty on Dallas.
His fist TD, the catch and spin down the left sideline for the score was the first moment where I actually thought we had a chance. I had no clue we had a Super Bowl run brewing.

Definitely, TC showing faith in Eli and his offense was critical.
RE: RE: Wasn't that the game they had to carry Toomer off the field because Â
One of the best games I've ever witnessed live. Watching those Cowboys 'fans' slump down and walk out of their own stadium, dejected, was just the greatest thing.
nothing better than seeing Jerry on the sidelines.. stunned Â
No one around here was feeling "encouraged" after either Dallas loss.

the first game that season if I remember, we lost 45-35 but there were very encouraging signs re: our offense and Eli.

Eli was supposed to be out for 4-6 weeks after that game with a shoulder A/C separation.

I thought that was a Philly game.

My wife still laughs her ass off when she sees the clip of him after that game.
