...just the stuff that would occasionally be heard on the radio. "Working Man", "Closer to the Heart", and occasionally something like "Passage to Bangkok" off 2112 on a late night radio show. I liked them, but really didn't know much about them.
Then one day, I was driving to work and I-95 FM in Danbury, CT played "Spirit of Radio" and that opening blew my mind. I bought the album a week later, then their first 6 albums soon after and I was hooked (although I had a hard time understanding and liking Caress of Steel, lol) I liked prog rock a lot back then, with Yes, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons, etc shaping my musical likes.
Soon I went to see them for the first time, at the New Haven Colosseum, and hearing "Xanadu" live was a game changer. The best moment, though, was the unexpected sing a long to "Closer to the Heart".
41 years later and I still love them as much as then. I liked all phases, but Permanent Waves was and will always be a watershed album at a critical musical time in my life. Although it was pretty clear they weren't going to tour again, I was still selfishly hoping for just one more show.
Fess up, how many RUSH shows have you been to? I always liked them but wasn't that rabid a fan, but my wife's been a huge fan since she was 11 and has been to 17 shows over the years.
Once in New Haven in 80, once 82 (when I was stationed in Great Lakes, IL) in Chicago, then 4 more times in VA. The last was the R40 show with a bunch of friends.

First heard Permanent Waves in 1980. I lost count of the live shows I went to. Geddy inspired me to advance my own bass playing. Still mourning loss of Neil.
I've been listening to RUSH XM channel - Deep Tracks.
I was lucky enough to meet Geddy and Alex at a meet n greet in I think it was '97 on the Test for Echo tour. I haven't missed a tour since 85-86.
I've been listening to this channel as much as possible, in the faint hopes that perhaps RUSH gets their own full time channel.
They've already extended the channel from Wednesday through Sunday. I'm guessing that's based on demand.
I am not in car that often. Didn't even know there was a channel. Glad to see.
For me I saw them twice. Yeah I know.
Counterparts tour at Nassau Coliseum. I was in the 5th or 6th row. That was incredible.
Clockwork Angels at MSG. Was lucky enough to be invited into luxury suite.
I have been playing them over and over on Amazon Music. So many good songs. But the one that always gives me chills is Subdivisions. That came out when I was in Jr High and even to this day I can still relate to those lyrics.
I am a huge Rush fan since I was in High School in the late 70's. I'm also very fortunate that I get to play a fair bit of Rush in a couple of my cover bands. I know several women who are crazy Rush fans. It's mostly due to those women that we play all the Rush that we do. Due to that, I don't buy into the stereotype that women don't like Rush. The real fact is most have simply never actually listened to them. Hehe... ;)
I said on a previous post, when I listen to Rush, I focus on his drums first. I've seen billboards here in Ohilly on I-95 with tribute to Neil. "Farewell to the King" or some such.
Never seen that before for any celebrity, ever. The man is beloved.

Incredible musicians and lyrics.
You can listen online via the sirius xm player on a PC, if that's applicable for you.
I started with Caress of Steel via Columbia House record club. Â
And was hooked after listening to Fountain of Lamneth. Been on-board since. My GF is as just playing “Lessons” off 2112. I probably haven’t heard that since I was maybe 35 years? I still remembered every word as I sang along in the car. Only 3 shows under my belt: Permanent Waves, Presto, and R40. RIP Bubba/Professor/New Guy.

They were my band during my high school and college years. I saw them 4 times. My cousin got me into them and we shared a special bond over Rush. My cousin passed away in 2005 and I could not listen to them again, except if it was playing on the radio. It was to hard. I usually turned the dial. After Neil passed, I was listening to Jim Ladd on XM and all these emotions and memories came back and I starting crying in the car with my wife. Mystic Rhythms was on tonight and that's one song that I haven't heard in so long. All I can think about is listening to it with my cousin. It's tough, but it feels great listening to them again.

I've tired of virtually ALL classic rock. That song just holds up though. It's relentless.
That's unusual. Women generally don't like RUSH.
