This isn't really specific to the Giants, but one of the podcast guys noted that he had about 2.5 hours of interviews and then a follow up meeting/call with Tisch the following day before getting into contract negotiations. Rhule and Mccarthy were hired under similar circumstances.
You have to interview for weeks and meet everyone including the janitor to get a job in the real world. I guess the small world the NFL is, all these guys come in pre vetted but it still blows my mind how little goes into the process for hiring coaches.
Thats my synapse fire for the day.
It’s weird but a completely different beast.
I agree totally. Many of these hires are like panic hires for starter’s pay. Like my first professional job where I was hired in the first 10 minutes of the interview and stayed for 40 years. The job started as soon as I could resign from my old job working at PanAm JFK.
It’s not comparable but it is crazy how quick the process seems. I would say they know what they are doing but the failure rate of coaches is so high that they may want to look at their processes.
Would be interesting if they did a job posting.
The Judge interview to probably 99% of fans/press was completely out of the blue but it sounds like he was widely respected in coaching circles and he was referred by others.
I've made a habit of working for people that I know. The corporate world interview that I had to go through was basically a formality. If I can't fill positions under me for people that I know, I sure as hell look at LinkedIn and identify who is linked with potential applicants and I make some calls.
I don't think the NFL is much different.
