Has anyone seen any reports on Callahan?

Interviewing with any team?
Nope
Chris684 : 1/17/2020 4:17 pm : link
Only saw the tweet from a few days ago (forget if it was Ralph's?) something along the lines that he is being considered by NYG.

I forget the exact tweet.

It was in Ralph's blog update. But then he seemed to backtrack a bit.
Intriguing

Wish we really knew how he and Garrett got along. Speaking of who-fired-who, I wonder if we are looking at any of the staff Lurie fired against his coaches wishes.

Eric, I take it Bill Callahan is not a name you are hearing tagged to Jason Garrett?

I forget the exact tweet.

I've heard nothing about Callahan.

I find it strange he hasn't interviewed already.

I'm hoping a deal may be in place?
Unless Callahan is thinking OC, he is probably already committed to
Ivan15 : 1/17/2020 4:40 pm : link
A guaranteed OC hire. He should not be hanging out there uncommitted.
I wonder if Linehan is being considered for Oline
Simms11 : 1/17/2020 4:47 pm : link
Coach and asst OC or Passing game coord, as well?!

Linehan doesn't have an OL background.... only HC, OC, passing game, WR, QB.

Does Callahan really line up?
jcn56 : 1/17/2020 4:52 pm : link
I thought he had the same lineage as Gruden - wouldn't that make him more WCO? Maybe he's not a fit?

If it happens (big if), think about Garrett basically being allowed to run the offense with his people. Callahan and Linehan were with Garrett in Dallas.
What happened to Dallas last OL coach?
JJ2525 : 1/17/2020 4:55 pm : link
Did he catch on someplace else or could he be a consideration for us?

Marc Colombo is still out there.
Think about the franchise QB. What kind of offense will he best fit?
Ivan15 : 1/17/2020 4:57 pm : link
Seems like more of a WCO guy than vertical.
As far as I know, he's still an Inspector with the San Francisco PD.
Klaatu : 1/17/2020 4:58 pm : link
But he's got to be pretty close to retirement, don't you think?

Seems to me that Daniel Jones throws a pretty good deep ball.

No, if you read this thread, it's pretty clear that I'm saying I've heard nothing about Callahan with any team.

I mean, maybe Callahan isn't involved in this coaching search. Really no idea.

I don't think there is any doubt that if Garrett does come over, he will run his offense the way he sees fit. Judge is not an offensive guy, so other than overseeing the operation, it's not as if Judge is in a position to take playcalling duties from Garrett. Additionally, it is hard for me to see Garrett accepting an OC position so quickly unless he knew he was being handed the keys to the offense. I imagine he'd rather sit out and wait than do that again.

The appeal of the Giants' job - if he takes it - will be rehabbing his image and showing that he is still capable of running an offense when given the chance. There were rumors that he wanted to call the plays - not have Moore do it - when he was in a do or die situation with the Cowboys this year, but Jones was insistent on having a young, innovative guy in Moore handle that.

Linehan has been an effective OC in the past, and one would think he would be a good mind to have around the operation. Sure, the Giants are going away from the trend in the NFL to hire young, no names as the OC and scheme designers (McVay, Zac Taylor, Matt LaFleur, Kingsbury, now Joe Brady and possibly Graham Harrell), but it is hard to argue with the success the Cowboys had offensively with Garrett at the helm, at least numbers wise.

I get it. He had talent there. Dak may not be a franchise QB, but they got as much as can be expected out of him, I think. Before Cooper got there in 2018, Dak struggled. That changed when Cooper got there. They had a good OL and Elliott.

The Giants' O is not bereft of talent, certainly if you think Jones is a potential franchise guy. I imagine Garrett thinks highly of him, because it would be stupid to saddle yourself to an offense if you did not believe in the QB.

Not sure if you saw this thread from Y28 the other day. He pieced together that maybe the Garrett/Callahan relationship doesn't exist anymore.

Is it possible that maybe Callahan was more JJ's doing than Garrett's? Maybe running "his offense" means Linehan and not Callahan in any way?

Was Callahan released from his Washington contract?
Ivan15 : 1/18/2020 12:25 am : link
If not, maybe he is obliged to stay in Washington until Rivera releases him.

Snyder has pissed away so much money in coaches that they may want to hold on to Callahan in some capacity. Did Rivera announce hos o-line coach?

Mentioned on Twitter that Callahan has been a name that's been discussed. This was about an hour before Garafolo broke the news that Garrett would be interviewing for the OC position.
