Belichick inquired about NYG job after Garoppolo trade?

Sean : 1/17/2020 9:16 pm
According to this article he was so annoyed after that trade he inquired about NYG & WSH jobs. I doubt this though, Belichick doesn’t reach out about jobs, teams should go to him.

Yeah, like Belichick would work for a doofus like Dan Snyder

that would place Belichick calling the Giants when they were 1-6 and on a bye. The Giants replaced McAdoo after that season, and it seems downright bizarre that they would go with Shurmur if Belichick was at all available.

I have a hard time believing that Washington would keep riding with Gruden if they knew Belichick could be had, too.

don't buy that both Mara and Snyder would pass up on Belichick unless he immediately changed his mind the next day.
Belichick probably calmed down a bit after

Thinking about the alleged timeline more...

You'd have Belichick calling the Giants sometime in early November.

One month later, Mara fires McAdoo and Reese.

One more month later, the Giants are interviewing head coaches. These interviews include two Belichick assistants.

On January 22nd, they hire Pat Shurmur to be the next head coach.

On February 4th, the Patriots lose the Super Bowl.

If this report is true, Belichick either cooled off eventually or the Giants found a way to make the 2017 season even worse.

Maybe the Giants were looking for a Patriots seat warmer until Billy B could get out of his contract without a tampering charge. Plan May still be in place with Little Bill moving in as Director of Football Ops and Judge as coach. After all, Judge was hand picked by Bill.

hope that's not true. Would hate missing out on BB over McAdoo

Preface/note- rumors at the time. I've written on BBI before. Back in 2006, I had it from a good source that the Giants plan was to get Pioli and then Belichick. The idea being that Pioli would become GM, decide to fire Coughlin, and bring in Belichick. I heard this actually after the Saints game on Christmas Eve and posted it and it was in the media a few days later. What seems to have happened however, Pioli and Belichick were annoyed that Kraft did not spend the money in free agency that they wanted him to (particularly at WR) and that's why they lost in Indy in the AFC title. Well, the Giants ask for permission to talk to Pioli. The Pats agree but Pioli refuses to come and the Giants promote Reese and the rest is history, including the Pats bringing in Wes Welker and Randy Moss.

Now, as for 2017, I had posted that the rumbling I heard, but not nearly as well verified as what I heard in 2006, the Garappolo thing did cause a rift with BB, Brady and Kraft. BB leaked those stories to ESPN and there were rumblings that he was putting this out there to get feelers to leave the Patriots because he was fed up (remember, the whole TB12 nonsense too with Brady's quack trainer he kicked out of the lockerroom). There were questions if he was trying to back channel the Giants and that's one of the reasons the Giants were so slow to name a coach because they were waiting out the Pats assistants (Patricia and McDaniels), but also waiting to see if the Pats would lose and Belichick shakes loose. As the Pats march continued to the Super Bowl, the Giants switched and went with the safe/boring choice of Shurmur. We all saw how that played out. Anyway, this was part of the buzz that Belichick was getting tired of the shit with Brady and Kraft, but they patched things up (as they usually do) to win more championships. However, going into this year, my gut says that Brady leaves, Belichick stays for one more year to show he can win without Brady (Brady goes to the Chargers) and they essentially both try to show the other up. And they are both out of the game in 2021 and the Pats are in the toilet and that fan base can go back to ignoring them again.
