The Giants do not have on their current roster a Defensive End who can proficiently set the edge AND rush the passer.
(They don't grow on trees and the 49ers are the envy of every NFL team with guys like Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead and Dee Ford, not to mention that War Daddy, DeForest Buckner, who can slide outside from his DT position).
The Giants have nothing like that, and their defense won't make any significant strides in 2020 until they at least take a positive step in the direction of finding a serious 2-way Defensive End.
Question for BBIers:
WHO is that Defensive End(s) in the Draft and/or Free Agency who can begin to right the Giants ship which is currently submerged in the Hackensack Meadowlands?
Any thoughts/ideas much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Closer to $20M
LOL typical BBI’er only looking at sack stats. Williams sucks too right?

He’s even hinted multiple times he’d like to come here. But it’s going to take probably $15M+ a year

Yep and would be well worth it.
37.5 sacks and 13 forced fumbles in four seasons. Fantastic player.
Giants need to take the time to see how the market develops.
Bingo, someone that actually watches!

Re-sign Leo Williams and add Ngokoue. Draft Isaiah Simmons. This is a good plan toward making our front 7 fast.

and 41 tackles is not worth close to 20 million. No thanks

But so many want to give Clowney huge bucks.
He's never been a top tier pass rusher.
Spot on Pal... He's on a list of "value" players I have currently.
Kid is a beast and I hope he continues to stay under the radar so we can have a shot at him with #36... But I'm afraid the combine is going to expose him fully and push him into round one... Lets hope not haha... For us
He has become a leader on D and nobody hustles more. He is all over the field.
Don't let the low sack totals fool you: he is incredibly disruptive and plays both the pass and run.
either one would be great (albeit overpaid)
On O we need to get a top OT and a solid Center. The rest of the O we can fill in. We should have FA money to get that done. Hopefully Judge and the staff can do some magic like they do in NE and take low end FA and maximize what they do well.
It is almost a certainty he costs more then $20m. I will be surprised if he doesn't become the highest paid edge rusher in history. My guess is something like 5 years/$110 million, $70 million guaranteed.
I hope the Giants mimic the 2005 offseason when the Giants signed young FA's Burress, McKenzie, and Pierce.
[quote] The FA market will be very thin and flooded with cap room. [/quote
Absurd
That’s slightly higher than last years big DE contract, DeMarcus Lawrence ($21.0mm) and Frank Clark ($20.8mm). Ngakoue is slightly younger than both players, both of whom negotiated those contracts with teams that had the negotiation leverage of a tag. With inflation, I say $23mm per.
People better get up to speed quickly on what $20M AAV is going to buy in a FA market as flush with cap room league-wide as this one is.
IMO, we're going to see contracts handed out which put the general price tag for pretty good players at around the same AAV that star players have been making the past few years.

I'll take Curtis Weaver. He is fantastic. Built like a fire hydrant with a surprising quick get-off. I'd definitely snag him with our 36th pick. My guess: Dallas will take him because they use Boise State as their farm system!
