@JordanRaanan: It appears that Bill Callahan remains in play for the Giants as OL coach. But given Callahan’s track record of success, there is competition for his services.
Definitely some good news on this wonderful Saturday morning!
of a great OL coach into the fold. He has seen it firsthand, not only the talent on the field but when they switched OL coaches that 1 year and had to fire the guy and bring back Columbo. It makes a difference.
RE: whether it's callahan or not, hopefully Garrett brings the importance Â

The OL coach position ismost vital right now. We can't afford another Hal Hunter. Obviously Callahan is the prize but Colombo isn't a bad option either.

Or there is Harry Hiestand, who developed a number of first rounders as OL Coach at Notre Dame and was also David Diehl’s OL Coach at Illinois.
agreed Jay - the OL coach has been the most important hire Â
the entire time so that's 1 thing that I like about the Garrett hire, he likely recognizes that and has made the correct move as HC to get that right 3 times (Houck, Callahan, Columbo). Good track record there.
that the Giants will use a top 10 pick on an OT plus Will Hernandez and Zeitler is enough to lure Callahan here.
Yes, would be even better if somehow we were to trade out, get other picks, and pick up 2 OT in the first rounds
My hope is that they would add a RT in free agency, Hopefully Conklin, and then trade down and grab either Jedrick Wills, Anthony Thomas, Austin Jackson, etc. Then in round 2 grab Tyler Biadasz. Imagine Callahan developing Wills, Hernandez, Biadasz, Zeitler, and Conklin.
If only we had other picks from trading down! Fixing the offensive line and protecting our franchise QB should be the priority. Go all in for Ngakoue in free agency.
Wouldn’t it be cool if the Giants became a really well coached team? All snark and bunched up undies aside, it’s been a really long time since we’ve seen a well coached Giants team. Even TC, who won two glorious Supes with Big Blue, didn’t really strike me as a guy who always had the team ready and coached up.
after the joke that Hal Hunter was, and they haven't had
a good and competent OL coach in years here!
He would be a good get for this team, a veteran mind.
Since 2012 the only time he has lasted for more than a year is when he lasted 2 in New England (2014-2015) and New England desperately called Dante Scarnecchia out of retirement.

.
Exactly, Dante was in retirement. There is a big difference
between Callahan and DeGuglielmo.
when you guys bash all these offensive line coaches Â

To be fair he seemed to do a great job in Indy (at least their line play was excellent). He was someone McDaniels hired before backing out of the job.
but did Tepper hand out unusually large salaries to the assistants as well?
Wonder if what the Giants have to contend with here is an owner who is willing to blow salary scales out of the water.
Just my thinking out loud.....who Tepper wants Tepper gets. So who Rhule wants, I’m pretty sure Tepper will offer more to an assistant who is in demand. It just makes sense, right? To give his HC all the toys he needs And wants to play with.

I agree. I’m not sure why some have written him off....I have a feeling Callahan goes to Carolina and we get the other.
is likely that if the offense has a very successful season, Garrett likely finds himself another head coaching gig and Callahan could step in as OC to keep the same system in place.

I think the attraction of Callahan is more that he actually made Ereck Flowers look like an NFL player and has a track record of successful OL even when his teams have been ravaged by injuries.

I get why he's a good coach, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying the reason why he'd want to come here over other offers.
I don’t remember exactly when he was the OL coach but I recall people upset when he left. Then his predecessor was also regarded as a good line coach but neither was able to do anything with our line.
If I remember correctly Within their time frames we drafted Pugh, Richburg and Flowers. How has that worked out?
Richburg started For the 49ers and did well until he got hurt. Pugh is a starter for the Cards af guard. But was hurt a lot here. We either wouldn’t or couldn’t give them the salary they wanted because of injuries but anyway we spent quite a bit of draft choices trying to upgrade the line. They may not have been all pros but more than adequate to build on.
Won’t comment on Flowers.
Hunter was poor but it started way before him!
Is any info on coordinators / postition coaches contracts or salaries Â
Ever made public? Like, could the Giants know who the highest paid OL coach is and how much they make so that they can negotiate or offer Callahan a deal that would make him the new highest paid OL coach?

I believe it's been rumored that Pat Flaherty will be the Panthers OL coach.
Also does Callahan have any connection to anybody on that staff? That's one thing we have going for us. He's coached with Garrett for 4 seasons so he's at least familiar with him
I’m sure Cleveland is looking too.

Honestly I dont know a thing about coaching offensive line, so I reserve my judgement for the more informed.
If you're basing your opinion on just "current results" dont you have to consider all other conditions.
Health, opponents, scheme, out of position, player abilities.
Just saying

Wow, not old news....in fact TOTALLY NEW NEWS. THIS IS AWESOME NEWS!
I will take either one. Callahan first but I can live with the other.
JUST DO IT

We should ask Doug Marrone what he thinks of Tom Coughlin’s influence.
