Schwartz article on Eli...

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/18/2020 4:43 pm
'Those closest to Eli think the time is right for him to get out. He is healthy, remarkably so. Manning never considered what he would look like in a different uniform and often voiced his strong desire to spend his entire career with the Giants, a franchise he truly loves. When he looks at the NFL landscape, he will not find a team out there willing to hand him a starting job. The outside interest will be nebulous, at best, and Eli Manning will not go hat-in-hand to find his next paycheck. Things can change, but probably will not.'

'There was a sense around him as the season wound down that he realized this was his last go-round.'

I think Eli calls it a career sometime soon too.

Thanks for posting that
I hate the idea of seeing him in another uniform

I'd be happy for him if that's what he wants, but I hate it at the same time.
I just want whatever he wants for himself

jokes aside.

if he thinks its time to retire, why not just take backup pay and backup jones? cant hurt jones development to have a true pro there

That's too big a shadow for Jones. If they struggle people will be calling for Manning.

Time to make a clean break.

If he thinks it's time to retire, why would he want to run the scout team, practice, travel, and be a play away from being on the field?
Yea it’s a little pathetic
djm : 1/18/2020 5:12 pm : link
But I do like that he won his last game. I really wish he beat Philly the week prior and really went out in style, but I’ll have to take that one win, getting him back to 500. Last memory of him is a winner, as it should be.
It’s starter or retirement
Dave on the UWS : 1/18/2020 5:16 pm : link
for him. The former is not going to happen so....

Yeah. The only chance of a starting job is if he sits on the sidelines and by chance an injury occurs at QB to a contending team come preseason or early next season.
But 99% chance he rides off into retirement.

I would like to see Uncle Eli hanging around the locker room getting beer and partying with DJ8 after a big win.
Eli will be “retired”
BigBlueDownTheShore : 1/18/2020 6:03 pm : link
Until some teams QB gets injured that has a chance to win. Then he’ll get picked up.

It’s the only way I see him playing again.

You know exactly what's going to happen and who's going to be the first name called to come back and save the season if Jones has a major injury in 2020...

If Eli were to sign as a backup QB with the Giants and the team and/or Jones got off to a rough start next year, very few fans would be “calling for Manning”… just like almost no one was calling for him this year, despite the fact that the team lost 8 straight with Jones at QB.

Most Giants fans, while appreciative of Eli’s contributions, know that he hasn’t played well for years and that it’s time to move on. And it now seems like the rest of the NFL feels the same way.

Time for Eli to retire.
yea
BleedBlue : 1/18/2020 6:21 pm : link
i guess fans would call fopr him if jones struggles, but that would be ridiciulously dumb fans. jones is our future....manning at this point is backup level talent wise
Smart classy guy, beloved in NYC

He will do fine whatever he decides. Reese and Rross ruined his career with thier incompetence and Mara let it happen. They should have been gone 5 years before they were FINALLY fired, Have they gotten jobs yet? Thought not.
I definitely think he retires
BlackLight : 1/18/2020 7:41 pm : link
I just think he's planning to wait and see how the QB landscape evolves over the next few weeks/months before being absolutely sure.

NFL can keep the Comp pick - just retire Eli
I think he will wait until he sees what is happening in the preseason.
Ivan15 : 1/18/2020 7:55 pm : link
If no openings occur, he may retire before the first game or wait a few games.

He will stay in shape, just like always, until the day he retires.
Eli?
myquealer : 1/18/2020 8:01 pm : link
Eli who?
There are a handful of contending teams who could find Eli attractive
Ivan15 : 1/18/2020 8:04 pm : link
if they lost their starter early. Patriots? Steelers? Cowboys? Bears? Chargers? Falcons?
As much as it would kill me to see him in another
JCin332 : 1/18/2020 8:33 pm : link
uniform he can still play so I wouldn't blame him...
So the next obvious question would be...
Adam G in Big D : 1/18/2020 8:42 pm : link
what are the odds that a QB-desperate team calls Eli Manning out of retirement in 2020?

I'll say 50%.
Eli back up here
Cstoff10 : 1/18/2020 10:55 pm : link
Jones was already injured this year. If Eli comes back good chance he is elevated to starter for a few games. Injuries are common for most quarter backs, but not for Eli.
Good

Imagine if Jones leads us to a playoff berth and gets injured
Leg of Theismann : 1/19/2020 3:09 am : link
at the end of the season, and Eli comes out of retirement to lead the Giants to one more Lombardi Trophy. That would be the most Eli ending to a career in history.

that would be incredible. Jones runs around too much. Probably will be getting himself hurt. He can't even grip a football very well.
