This is the most hopeless the Knicks have ever felt
Oscar : 1/19/2020 10:18 am : link
They’ve now had a few years of lottery picks and have nothing to show for it, I’m not sure anyone they drafted is good enough to even be the second option on a real contender. That includes Barrett obviously. Porzingis was but they gave him away for a bag of donuts.

Now they’ll have good pick again in what looks like a very down draft. Mills is still empowered, Dolan is still around. It’s bleak. But at least the fans and the city are used to it, nobody really expects anything of the Knicks.
It’s just ridiculous how badly the front office has screwed this up
Mike in NJ : 1/19/2020 10:42 am : link
Phil Jackson got fired for considering trading Porzingis for what was rumored to be a return of Jaylen Brown and the right to draft Jayson Tatum (he probably would’ve blown that and selected Josh Jackson), yet this front office is still here after getting basically nothing for KP. Smith Jr looks like he’ll be in the G-league by the end of next year, and we’ll be lucky if those Mavs picks end up being in the top 20.

Beyond that, the young pieces on this team are just so uninspiring. The fact that we have Frank Ntilikina and Kevin Knox when we could have had any of Donovan Mitchell, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Bam Adebayo, or Michael Porter Jr is sickening. Even just get one of those picks right and the whole outlook for this team is so drastically different.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Barrett and do think he has All-Star potential, but how much better would we be feeling with Ja Morant? Even when the Knicks tank right they can’t even get in position to get a true potential star. Id feel a lot better with RJ if he were here as a complimentary piece next to KP, Mitchell, SGA or any one of the guys that a good front office would have on this roster, but man is it discouraging when right now he is the “only hope.”

I really hope they get lucky in the upcoming draft. I know the class looks uninspiring right now, but it wouldn’t be the first time a guy made a big leap in February and March and looked like a clear cut star. They really need Anthony Edwards to separate himself from the pack and be lucky enough to be in position to draft him, if not then just roll the dice on Wiseman. They need to hit a home run in this draft, not another double like Barrett.
I feel so bad for you guys
arniefez : 1/19/2020 10:50 am : link
I don't know how you do it. It is literally unfathomable that Dolan has literally eliminated the Knicks from NY sports existence. No one watches the games, hardly anyone talks about them. They still sell tickets because the building is a tourist attraction but that's it.

95% of you have no idea what the early 70s were and most of you weren't even around for the early mid 90s.

The Knicks have been so meaningless for so long they've lost an entire generation and it's going to years if not decades before they'll ever matter again. Dolan will never sell. Maybe you young guys can wait him out.
The knicks suck
nygiants16 : 1/19/2020 11:06 am : link
but they are not irrelevent, not even close, they are worth 5 billion dollars and probably the most popular franchise in the nba..

If talk radio starts talking knicks their phone lines light up..

When they are good they are the most popular franchise in new york, being as bad as they are they are probably 3rd and it is not even close..

The knicks are bad and have been for a long time but they are not irrelevent, not even close
I agree that the city comes alive when the Knicks are good, even
Jim in Hoboken : 1/19/2020 11:11 am : link
more so than the Yanks, but there is no way they are one of the more popular franchises in the league.

Right now they are so bad that I basically don't watch any basketball anymore, not college or other teams in the NBA. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, why even waste my time? I mostly just check the box scores, cringe, and come here to complain.

seriously? you dont think they are one of the most popular teams in the nba? they are worth 5 billion, how do you think they got that worth?
Just did a search. This is the top 10 teams by jersey sales.
Jim in Hoboken : 1/19/2020 11:16 am : link
1. Los Angeles Lakers
2. Boston Celtics
3. Philadelphia 76ers
4. Toronto Raptors
5. Milwaukee Bucks
6. Golden State Warriors
7. Houston Rockets
8. Chicago Bulls
9. Miami Heat
10. Brooklyn Nets

Obviously not the end all be all measure of how popular a team is, but the Knicks are a laughingstock. Nobody outside of the NY does anything but laugh at us.

everyone of those teams have stars, so that is why their jersey sales are higher..

again explain to me why the knicks are worth 5 billion if they are not popular and that doesnt inckude the arena or tv deal
Saw the Forbes list, all the big markets are at the top.
Jim in Hoboken : 1/19/2020 11:23 am : link
Being in NYC counts for something, but popularity world-wide probably doesn't contribute much.

agree to disagree man, i am sorry i dont know how anyone can think the Knicks are not one of the most popular franchises
Haha, doesn't matter. I honestly don't know where the next wave of
Jim in Hoboken : 1/19/2020 11:33 am : link
fans after us diehards who grew up in the 90's watching Ewing-led Knicks is going to come from. NY is big and perhaps if you go by head count they may still have a sizable fan base, but being popular means you have to have more than just the diehards around the country, all over the world. Hell, I would be surprised if most of the young basketball fans in the city haven't already latched on to a non-NY team with more popular stars.

It's unforgivable what Dolan has done to the Knicks. At this point I don't even care. Maybe once Mills is gone I'll start to pay more attention.
Franchise values mean nothing in terms of popularity or relevance
Mike in NJ : 1/19/2020 12:03 pm : link
The Clippers sold for $2 billion, which at that time was the 2nd highest selling price for a team in history (behind the Dodgers). You think that was because the Clippers were relevant or popular? It’s because they are in LA.

Need a more recent example? Look at what the Mets just sold for. The deal puts a valuation of $2.6 billion on them and nobody gives a shit about the Mets outside of this area. It has nothing to with relevance or popularity, because the Mets are neither, it’s about being an available franchise in the #1 market in the country.

They may be valuable because they are the Knicks and they are in New York, but they absolutely are not relevant. If they were then Kyrie and Durant would be at MSG.
You think kyrie and durant
nygiants16 : 1/19/2020 12:11 pm : link
went to brooklyn because the nets are more popular?

No but it’s just evidence that nobody gives a shit about the Knicks. If they were this highly popular, relevant team like you are making them out to be they wouldn’t be striking out on free agents every chance they get.

they strike out because they are garbage not because of popularity, the team is trash and i even said last year if they tank they will not sign anyone..

players dont sign with the knicks because they suck and the scrutiny for the knicks is hard..

I wouod argue their popularity is a big reason why they strike out, you fail in new york and you are ridiculed by everyone, you think kyroe and kd wanted that?

No one is going to sign with the knicks until they prove they are turning a corner
Before lebron
nygiants16 : 1/19/2020 12:30 pm : link
who went to the lakers? Lakers are probably the most famous franchise in maybe all of sports, and when they were trash who signed with them? no one..

It has nothing to do with popularity, that thinking is the exact reason why the knicks have not signed anyone..

they thjnk because they are the knicks they can sign whoever they want, it diesnt work that way..

“Before Lebron”? That’s one hell of a qualifier.

No point in arguing with you over this. All you do is defend this team except during game threads where all you do is complain about how dumb all of the players are. We get it, nobody can criticize the Knicks except to point out how bad they are on game nights. All of the dysfunction is just our imagination, not like players are going on the radio and pointing out the same shit or saying things like the Knicks aren’t cool.

Oh i never rip the knicks? all i do is defend them?

all i said laat year was durant was not signing with the knicks, how is that defending them?

and how am i defending them? by saying they are popular is defending them?

they are run like trash and have trash players that is why players do not come, not popularity
players sign places because they want to win
nygiants16 : 1/19/2020 1:15 pm : link
it has nothing to do with popularity, kyrie and durant wanted to be in new york, but the knicks were trash and the nets showed promise and made the playoffs, so they went there...

George and kawhi went to the clippers because they wanted to win together, it had nothing to do with if the clippers were popular or not...

Knicks

The Knicks shooting is their biggest problem. They shoot 3-pointers abysmally and are the worst foul shooting team in the NBA.
Knicks just can’t pick a strategy and system and stick to it
PhilSimms15 : 1/19/2020 3:00 pm : link
One year they are building with youth; one year its with vet; one year they say they understand this is a long term build and the fans have to have patience; the next season they fire the coach and want to try for the playoffs.

Once they struck out with Durant, they should have keep their powder dry and used their space to absorb contracts for picks or young players.

Now, if you tuned in last night, you saw times when it was Randle, Morris, Gibson, Payton and Bullock. Average age = 28.

Their leadership is weak and they swing from one plan to another.
The front office has done the easy part...
Jan in DC : 1/19/2020 3:45 pm : link
not trading picks, getting cap room. This is the part that takes smarts and an eye for talent to mold a team and woo free agents. Now is the time to replace the front office with someone at least approaching competent above the bare minimum.
Knicks lose by one shot

Unless you forget the laundry list of stars they have gotten over the years because they are the lakers. They just haven’t always needed too since they may have had a stacked team already.

when they were garbage before lebron got there and no one would even give them a sniff..

Lamarcus Aldridge laughed at them because their presentation was so bad..

They were so bad when lebron signed there everyone said he ni longer cared about winning and signed there because of his production company

Exactly. It always cracked me up when people defend mills or Perry by pointing out that they haven’t traded any future 1sts and have cap flexible. And not mentioning they haven’t brought in any good players and traded their all star to create that cap space.... But congrats they signed a bunch of shitty players to short term contracts.
