I think it is safe to say Henry is the superior athlete and player, but I think this is pretty incredible:
Brandon Jacobs: 6’4” 264lbs.... 40 yard dash: 4.56 seconds
Derrick Henry: 6’3” 247lbs.... 40 yard dash: 4.54 seconds
Brandon Jacobs was an inch taller and 17lbs heavier and still had incredible straight forward speed. Man I miss watching him play.
Jacobs/Bradshaw 1-2 punch was some of the most fun Giants football we have had in a long time.
However our Earth, Wind, and fire combo and Thunder and Lighting was effective.
Not suggesting Jacobs as good, only that longevity was more difficult for a back their size a decade ago...

I think Henry is a better back but not drastically better or distinctive from BJac.
Henry gets to he hole a lot quicker, then for a man his size is very fluid . Then when does make contact, breaks tackles.
Here are Jacobs 10 longest TD runs (in 1141 attempts)
74, 43, 40, 30, 28, 26, 19, 12, 10, 10
Here are Henry's 10 longest TD runs (in 804 attempts)
99, 75, 75,74, 72, 68, 66, 54, 53, 23
But give me Brandon Motherfucking Jacobs on my team any day. That man is a true Giant, he hated our rivals with a passion and punished defenses. He set the whole tone if we are going to pinch you in the mouth on both sides of the ball. Love him, and will always remember what he gave on the field.
We don't win those 2 SBs without Jacobs, who was unique.
Man I miss that guy
he would often try to bounce outside rather than go thru middle and he did not have outside speed
also Jacobs was massive guy but he could easily be brought down if someone when went for his ankles -- like ridiculously easy.

he didn't have the penchant for the long home run TDs like Henry.

I seem to recall Jacobs longest play being a pass. Am I recalling correctly?
You are correct. I went to Pro-Football-Reference and sorted by longest TDs and so I misspoke. BJ's 74-yard TD was receiving (as was his third-longest, 40-yard TD)
I couldn't find an index of all of their rushes, and so I figured the HRs would turn into TDs which is why i only sorted by long TDs.
If you are standing safely on the sideline and he starts running in your direction, you're first impulse is to get out of the way the same way you want to avoid a run-away truck.
One time, after a practice at SUNY, I saw Brandon and Tiki walking together. As they walked past me I asked Tiki a question about his helmet. Jacobs was too intimidating for me to even look at to talk to.
Yup. Love Jacobs he’s a great Giants. But anyone that would take him over Henry in their primes is lying or crazy.
But Henry has much, much better contact balance, and I think great vision as well.
He generated more yards after contact I guess (don't have stats back up.)
Plus Henry starred at Bama, Jacobs played for vaunted Southern Illinois. Jacobs was a 4th rod (I think) flyer who worked out well, a good role player.
In the OP I stated that Henry is the superior back and a much better athlete. The point of the thread is that I found it interesting that Jacobs was bigger (17lbs is a lot of extra weight to carry) but still had incredible speed for his size. That’s all.
Certainly cannot forgot Ward, but I personally enjoyed watching Bradshaws running style more than DW... but now we’re splitting hairs.
Giants could use a Jacobs to complement Barkley. Or vice versa
great with a head of steam though.
