hope he gets another crack at a ring. Also would make the McCarthy thing a whole lot funnier.
I dont see it though, SF line is too much. Rodgers needs to play the game of his life and they need to force Garoppolo to pass downfield into mistakes.
dilemma. I cant stand Rodgers either and always root for him to lose. But, as a Giants fan, rooting for the Niners is usually a no go too.
Can't stand Rodgers though, he is my NFL Super Villain. Keeps me interested especially when the Giants stink to root against teams/players. Childish I know, but it seems others on this thread share the sentiment.
I have a friend who is a huge Niners fan, but a Green Bay winning would be big because this was a team that severely underachieved with Mike McCarthy as head coach and would love to stick it in the face of Dallas fans if Green Bay was to make the Super Bowl as soon as they canned him.
I hate the 49ers almost as much as the other NFC East.
I've always felt that Rodgers was the evolutionary Elway and now with a running-based team, it feels similar to the Denver run to beat GB in Elway's first Super Bowl.
SF is a big favorite - they are better in almost every aspect. But with both teams running the ball as much as they do, there won't be that many possessions. And I trust Rodgers a heck of a lot more than Jimmy G.
Dont get the Rodgers haters. Yeah, hes a weirdo off the field but hes the very definition of a generational talent.
I like the Packers organization as much as any other than the Giants and usually root for them to win. And come on guys, the Niners are probably our most hated non-division rival. What other team has had most heartache and hatred and great victories and defeat with the Giants than the Niners? That hatred and history is not there for me for the Packers, kind of the opposite actually really like the Pack fans and history (some former Giants coach named Lombardi was there foe a while right?).
I also think the Niners have a bit of a glass jaw. If the Pack can get up early, and Im not sure they can, I dont see Jimmy G picking up the team and winning against a fairly stout Pack defense.

Not sure how that read, but you didnt offend me at all..👍🏿👍
That's a lot of points to be giving an Aaron Rodgers led team. I could easily see the 49'ers being up by 14 and giving up a garbage time TD to Rodgers and that makes that .5 huge
I also think the Niners have a bit of a glass jaw. If the Pack can get up early, and Im not sure they can, I dont see Jimmy G picking up the team and winning against a fairly stout Pack defense.
Yeah key for Pack to get up early and force the Niners to try and throw to catch up.
As soon as the corpse of the Eagles' dead season went cold,
id really like to see this defense vs the KC offense. That would be one helluva matchup! So I dont know if I can ROOT for that uniform, but it wont ruin my day if they win the game.

Well, theyre going to win so I dont think it matters who we root for.
This game is going to be over before half. Niners are using the benefit of talent overload and winning individual battles to get pass rush up front.
I dont see Rodgers able to bring much magic anymore to will his team. He mentally checked out in several of the games this year where they fell behind.
always get too much praise and credit when a team wins and too much grief when they lose. Bit of pendulum swing by the razors edge of victory or defeat.
Garoppolo is solid. Hes not a guy who has tremendous physical tools but has command of the offense and can make the throws. He sometimes gets too lazy with his reads and discipline on decision making.
The Patriots know how to draft qb's - Brady in the 6th round and
He was inconsistent whil here and never quite met expectations following his rookie year. He's since gone on to play well for SF and anchor a line that run blocs exceptionally well despite being known for doing his best work in pass pro.
So how much of that can be attributed to a coaching failure on the Giants part?

ignore his body of work because his team cant block today and his defense is getting run all over.
Those are facts not excuses. You guys arent even making a case against Rodgers other then you just dont like the guy.
Rodgers hasnt done a goddamn thing to make his team competitive tonight. Nothing. You could replace Rodgers with any other starting QB in the league and get what hes done tonight.

Cant you just say that about any QB when their team is losing big?
Hes 9-9 this game half of them throws over 10 yards. Hes throwing well and just not getting time. Had the fumble. His defense is getting obliterated. Its just not their night.
I challenge you to think even slightly critically instead of just posting he sucks or overrated.
gives up on his team or checks out way too often. Hes not a guy who needs much to go right to win but he wants things to go right. Worst body language of a QB. Only one worse might be Newton or Rivers.
But the guy has 3 touchdowns this half. In the NFC Championship game. Sure the OL is amazing but you can't coach the speed Mostert has. Guy was a track star at Purdue. He is benefitting from this system but it isn't the entire reason for his success. Guy can flat out fly.

It has been my belief that MOST (not all) of our OL issues were related to coaching.
Just think about this for a minute...
Look at all of the draft picks and free agents over the past 6 years. Can anyone truly tell me that NONE of these guys are NFL quality players? Hey.. we did not like Reese and many don't care for Gettleman... but even a squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Throwing a dart at the board would have resulted in at least ONE of the guys playing well. This is why I really believe our coaching has been the primary issue.

He also fits Shanahans scheme very well
Granted I haven't paid much attention to the 49ers. But Staley, Tomlinson look like beasts among boys right now. Also, I am very jealous that we couldn't get that kinda production out of Richburg. Where did we go wrong. He also became too expensive once FA hit.

I mean, you look at Solder, Remmers, and Zeitler. All 3 were legitimate starting offensive linemen, come here, and all 3 immediately look terrible. I could see one of them falling off a table, but all 3?
Also Hernandez was better day 1 as a rookie than he was at the end of last season. For the record, Ereck Flowers was better as a rookie than he was afterward.
Considering he had Rodgers in his prime with better weapons, yeah thats still true IMO.
This Packer team overachieved this year. They really werent very good outside of the first month when their defense was playing really well. But Seattle got pounded late with injuries and Minnesota was average so it wasnt surprising that they made the NFCC. The big surprise was the Saints.
Do non-Shanahans just not understand it or something?
This is exactly what Daddy Shanahan's teams did. And it didn't matter who the running back was.
They dont have a 1st round pick at a skill position. Their OT are 1st rounders but their guards were random guys they picked up. They are playing their backup center.

Meanwhile guys leave and improve. We've talked about Richburg. DJ Fluker starts in Seattle. Flowers was a serviceable G in Washington this oast season. Marshall Newhouse filled in in a pinch for NE, a LT no less. I'd include Pugh but he wasnt awful here. Not a first round pick but lets be honest, he screamed "need pick".
Im not saying these guys have left and set the world on fire, but they've been better than they were here. Im really hoping they get this figured out because the complete and utter inability to field a competent OL has been the backbone of this teams failure for nearly a decade.
Packers won 6 more games this year and went to the championship game with a rookie HC. I dont think GB fans miss McCarthy at all.
McCarthy was there 12 years. They had a 1 year gain this year. Lets we how it goes a little longer. McAdoo was 11-5 his 1st year which was a 5 game improvement over Coughlin..
are built upon a great line. Running the ball is still a huge part of todays NFL but the Giants went upon building a great running game backwards. Using the most expensive draft capital there is on the position makes no sense on any level. You could put Manny in CA in the backfield for the 49ers tonigth and he'd run for 150.
Giants line is basically in the same spot it was when Gettleman got here. Laugh out loud bad.
49ers built this thing the right way. Showed patience, but put their draft capital into the correct areas.
Watching these teams today the Giants are light years behind the top teams as far as roster constuction.
The fumble was one they would accuse Jones of having no pocket awareness on as it was poked out if his hand on what could have been a big play. A bad pick that set up a SF score. He fumbled the snap that
Deserves more credit for the team he has put together
Well he was named 2019 NFL Executive of the Year. But the decision to bring him and Kyle Shanahan in was pure genius. Big gamble in making a color commentator General Manager but boy has it paid off.
49ers really needed leadership after the Jim Tomsula/Chip Kelly years.

He was a huge part of them being down 27-0.
It's amazing how some don't get this. Rodgers reminds me of the 2016-17 version of Eli
SF running scheme takes advantage of what their personnel CAN do not what it cant (sound familiar. The OL players they have, the skill players all for what they want to do. The sum of the parts is frater than the individuals. This is what Judge was talking about.
be to hard on Rodgers. It is very difficult to QB two championship runs. Very hard to win a conference title game on the road against a tough physical defense too.
Very hard to do, cut through the best of the NFL to get to the promised land twice. Very few special QB's have done it.

In the SB. Who else wiould you want with the ball, in the last 5 minutes , to target Richard Sherman to defend a long pass ?
I agree. I think Mahomes is the X-factor in SB LIV. He won't only be the best player on the field, he is best player in the LEAGUE, bar none. A guy who has that much talent, physical ability, awareness, competitive spirit, combined with just being a flat-out gamer... does not come around often.
I can't wait to see that KC offense square off against this SF defense, but again, I just think when the chips are down Mahomes is the guy you want, and that's why I'm picking them to win.
Should be a fantastic Super Bowl.
Why does Kyle Shanahan always sound like he's out of breath?

Packers throw the ball 39 times and run it 16 times
Niners throw the ball 8 times and run it 42 times
But Packers win time of possession 31 minutes to 29 minutes???
I dont see it though, SF line is too much. Rodgers needs to play the game of his life and they need to force Garoppolo to pass downfield into mistakes.
Can't stand Rodgers though, he is my NFL Super Villain. Keeps me interested especially when the Giants stink to root against teams/players. Childish I know, but it seems others on this thread share the sentiment.

Just for kicks GB 20-SF 17.
Even with the suspension (2 games last season) he should have been the primary guy over Jamal Williams
With his first 1000 yd season and 18 TD's IMO he's the main reason they are in the NFC championship.
I like the Packers organization as much as any other than the Giants and usually root for them to win. And come on guys, the Niners are probably our most hated non-division rival. Most, if not all of us CONCEDE that Rodgers is a generational talent. That said, we have the right to dislike him as an individual and root against him for that very reason.
Too many battles - too much animosity

San Fran NFC championship game was Quite possibly Eli's greatest game, what a warrior.
He got beaten like the proverbial Red Headed Step child and kept on coming back.

What is deceiving is their QB was injured last year allowing them to draft a freak in Bosa

Exactly. Imagine Barkley behind this line with TEs making the second level blocks you're seeing tonight. He's legit be a threat to score every play.

its not him its the offensive line, hence why Brieda, Coleman and Wilson are also successful rb's in this offense
Mostert is the very definition of a system back. He may be a bit better than a jag but he is no way a top-10 back talent-wise. Maybe not even top-20.

He was inconsistent whil here and never quite met expectations following his rookie year. He's since gone on to play well for SF and anchor a line that run blocs exceptionally well despite being known for doing his best work in pass pro.
So how much of that can be attributed to a coaching failure on the Giants part?
It has been my belief that MOST (not all) of our OL issues were related to coaching.
Just think about this for a minute...
Look at all of the draft picks and free agents over the past 6 years. Can anyone truly tell me that NONE of these guys are NFL quality players? Hey.. we did not like Reese and many don't care for Gettleman... but even a squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Throwing a dart at the board would have resulted in at least ONE of the guys playing well. This is why I really believe our coaching has been the primary issue.

They have to be closing in on 300 yards rushing...
Giants line is basically in the same spot it was when Gettleman got here. Laugh out loud bad.
49ers built this thing the right way. Showed patience, but put their draft capital into the correct areas.
Watching these teams today the Giants are light years behind the top teams as far as roster constuction.
Yea where was he for 2.5 quarters? GB gets the ball too.
He was a huge part of them being down 27-0.
Good scouting, good coaching, good scheme = low investment costs on the RB position.

It's amazing how some don't get this. Rodgers reminds me of the 2016-17 version of Eli
Our front office can not figure its way out of a paperbag.

They couldn't figure their way out of wet paper bag with scissors in their hands.
Yep and shouldnt have gone for two earlier
The 49ers had hall of fame and all pro RBs in their history and none of them ever ran for as many yards in a game
Didn't Aaron Rodgers say "The better team lost" (or something like it) after the Giants kicked their asses in January 2012?
Very hard to do, cut through the best of the NFL to get to the promised land twice. Very few special QB's have done it.

And then there was Eli

I see what you did there and I LIKE it!
100%. Recovering onside kicks has become virtually impossible with the rules.
I'm 73 now (I'm blessed) and a bad hip; but yes, ] do think I could go for 150 with the huge holes that 49ers O-line was blowing open.

Well played
Niners throw the ball 8 times and run it 42 times
But Packers win time of possession 31 minutes to 29 minutes???
