If you could add only one new player to the Giants...

M.S. : 1/19/2020 9:25 am
...for the 2020-21 Season, who is selected as a Pro Bowler, where would you want that Pro-Bowler to play?

(a) EDGE/DE
(b) LB
(c) Safety or CB
(d) Center
(e) Left Tackle
(f) Some other position

That isn't adding a player, that is adding a position .

No one player is changing this team around. If you are asking which one position would help our win total it might be a pass rusher but the secondary would have to hold up. Is an an OL? Well, we need a coach that is going to have this unit play as one and not get completely embarrassed but simple stunts.

Easy, left tackle
OL

C or LT whatever is available. To me fixing the OL should be the top priority. Everything else comes in 3rd. We have our two most valuable assets playing directly behind the OL. We've been without a competent OL for the better part of a decade. This needs fixing now.

Definitely
Our defense was historically bad

I mean, we need OL help for sure but the biggest impact in our W/L for next year will be better D.

Getting to the QB forgives a lot of sins in the secondary so while I’m tempted to say a ball hawking S... I’ll go with an impact edge rusher. Maybe someone who can get double digit sacks. 15+ more sacks for this D would be a god send and make everyone else “look” so much better
a) Edge

With LT being a close second. If the Giants add Ngakoue or Judon in free agency then they can focus on OT in round 1 or 2.

Ideally the Giants would trade down from 4 to the 7-10 range picking up a 2nd this year and a 1st in 2021. Then the Giants would take Jedrick Wills or Andrew Thomas in round 1. Then in round 2 they could use their two picks on C Tyler Biadasz and a defender.

Agreed. Center or LT. Either would make a world of difference. However, if Gettleman is any way capable, he will either determine what's wrong with Solder (injury?) and have it corrected or replace him and also acquire a top flight center.

I agree with all of this. Our defense will be a liability until we can find a pass rusher. It has to be a #1 priority.

Edge Rusher
TheWalrus : 1/19/2020 11:08 am : link
Every Super Bowl this franchise has won was led by a great pass rush. Fixing that would take a lot of pressure off our secondary and get the offense back on the field faster.

(I played defensive end when I was younger so I am very biased here)
LT or EDGE
Eric on Li : 1/19/2020 11:08 am : link
peak Joe Thomas or peak Khalil Mack are both helping their respective units immeasurably.

off ball LB and CB are the runners up. Keuchly and Revis Island would both make a huge impact on whatever units they joined as well.
LT
Coach Red Beaulieu : 1/19/2020 12:46 pm : link
It's a unicorn position, you have a handful of top tiered guys and then a steep dropoff. LT really set off an arms race between the ER and LT, and human athletic ability can only reach so much.

A 3-4 ER you can call up laying on the couch in his boxers like Golden.
Assuming we pay competitive FA money, Edge is the one position
Ivan15 : 1/19/2020 1:21 pm : link
Where an established Pro Bowler would be a certain upgrade AND a lesser starting level player may or may not be an improvement. The other positions need new blood and can be improved by solid players who don’t have to be Pro Bowlers.
# 22 RB from LSU...

I am very excited about the coaching hires thus far. For the first time in a long time I feel hopeful that this team is headed in the right direction.

Now if the Giants add Ngakoue in free agency and a potential stud LT in round 1 (Jedrick Wills Jr., Andrew Thomas, Austin Jackson, Mekhi Becton, etc) then things will get interesting. It's time for this team to add an impact LT to this roster. Hopefully the Giants find their Tyron Smith in this years draft and enjoy 8+ years of solid OL play.
