He'd be a good add as secondary coach. This is why you take your time hiring. It was uncertain he'd become available. Now we have a shot at adding a very good piece to our defensive staff.

Is He a good coach?
I didn't watch the Panthers when he was DC, how much influence was him versus McDermott or Rivera? He was fired in Arizona and now fired with the Browns.

He was not suited to be a head coach, but his Pass D in Cleveland was Top 7. The Run D was another matter, but as a DB Coach you want a guy who knows pass Defense.
Hadn't realized, wouldn't have known, that Stefanski's tie to Wood was that strong. Said this after the Browns' hire, but I thought Stefanski's game plan vs Niners was poorly conceived and didn't seem as he could adjust. Leaving Cousins in the pocket for the slow developing patterns left him vulnerable to pr. Screen and running game not working, have to go quick slants and outs, outside the OLBs.
That is one reason I like Garrett. He 100% seems like an easy guy to work with. No ego. If you get too many guys thinking they are HC then that can lead to not fully following through on the head coach's message. Guys may disagree and do things their way. This doesn't go specifically for Wilks. I just don't think getting a collection of former HCs means that it would be a great staff. A great staff is one that takes what the HC wants and carries it out the way it is intended regardless of anything else.
Its just that Stefanski has worked with Joe Wood before (as jeff57 points out) and feels more comfortable.
Adding a veteran coach who has been a Head Coach to Graham's defense sounds like a good idea.
The Giants could have competition with the Redskins for him.
I doubt Wilks will be unemployed very long.
