Bunleavy: Witten interested in following Jason Garrett

sphinx : 1/19/2020 3:01 pm
Ryan Dunleavy @rydunleavy

From #Giants killer to thriller? #Cowboys' Jason Witten interested in following Jason Garrett . He might make more sense as a coach than a player but there should be room for him either way

Holy smokes

Yes. Signed a 1 year contract for last year.

And why is that? If he is wearing Giants blue you can't root for him? Not like he was some scumbag such as Dawkins.

Wittens was always class. But I think he is cooked.
I remember being so bummed out
Bill in Del : 1/19/2020 3:54 pm : link
seeing Mark Bavaro playing for the Eagles.

I can't imagine what the Cowboy fans will be going thru seeing Witten in Giants blue.

But it will be fun to watch.
Wittten
Big Daddy : 1/19/2020 3:54 pm : link
It would be great to go back to Dallas and Witten scores the winning touchdown for the Giants!!!!

smokeybandit : 1/19/2020 4:07 pm : link
Whatever keeps Witten out of the broadcast booth, I'm all for
Doesn't sound like much of an 'interested in'
sphinx : 1/19/2020 4:11 pm : link
Chris Mortensen @mortreport

With no on-field coaching spot on Mike McCarthy's
@dallascowboys staff, sources say Jason Witten hasn't ruled out playing in '20, and not to rule out reunion w new
@Giants OC Jason Garrett. Of Witten's 16 games, his most productive game was vs. Giants.

too old
mdc1 : 1/19/2020 4:13 pm : link
we need to build from youth.
TE Coach?
giantsfan227B : 1/19/2020 4:17 pm : link
I'm ok with that. Maybe he can just line up and teach the D how to cover a TE. I haven't seen the NYG stop a TE since LT days.
As a player? No!
JohnB : 1/19/2020 4:23 pm : link
He is washed up. Okay maybe not completely washed up but I'd rather give his spot to a young TE who is giving his all.

As a coach? I'll live with that.

Well played...very well played!
He ain’t that good anymore
djm : 1/19/2020 4:33 pm : link
But we could do worse. He’s still a smart player who knows how to get that key first down. I mean the guy can’t move anymore but why not.
I might be in the minority
Vin_Cuccs : 1/19/2020 4:34 pm : link
But I want no part of him as a player or a coach.

As a player, he would only take away reps from Engram and Smith.

And I would prefer someone with more experience as a coach.
Witten is done
BobsYourUncle : 1/19/2020 4:40 pm : link
pass
He would be the 3rd TE on the depth chart
rasbutant : 1/19/2020 4:48 pm : link
So as long as he is paid as such I see no problem with this.
I was hoping the Giants add a TE on day 3 of the draft
Jay on the Island : 1/19/2020 5:16 pm : link
A solid blocking TE with good size and speed who was underutilized in college due to scheme or poor QB play.

With so many needs on the roster I would be happy to add Witten as a 1 year stopgap. He obviously wouldn't be the #1 TE but he could serve as the #3 TE playing mostly on 3rd down and in the red zone. This would also allow Engram to line up as a WR more often.

Eli's not under contract anymore.
No thanks

Not as a player anyway. He is done.

you want TE reps away from EE. It should be more than obvious by now

Eli's not under contract anymore.

I know that. I meant that Eli retires but could come back if Jones suffered an injury and is forced to miss a significant amount of time.

The Giants will have a backup QB this year who isn't Eli, though.
How about player/ coach?
Dave on the UWS : 1/19/2020 5:42 pm : link
That would work!
Wasn't there another thread about this??
moze1021 : 1/19/2020 5:59 pm : link
Where did it go??
Witten's agent probably putting this out to get Jerry
Blue21 : 1/19/2020 6:16 pm : link
to sign him.
"and this area is still the top sports market in the world"
Jim in NH : 1/19/2020 6:23 pm : link
I seriously doubt that.

Born in Brooklyn, grew up on the Island, lived in Manhattan until I was 30, left for good.

Still fun to visit, but the old town has lots of problems that make it hard to recruit talent, in my field (not sports) or any other.

Exhibit 1: The New York Knickerbockers. Remember Clyde? Willis? Double D? They are terrible and show no signs of improvement.

Exhibit 2: The National League Metropolitan Baseball Club.

And, of course, the less said about the two NFL franchises, the better.
Prediction
cjac : 1/19/2020 7:21 pm : link
He will be the highest scoring player on offense in camp and practice

One thing you still have to give him
V.I.G. : 1/19/2020 8:28 pm : link
He destroyed our edge guys in the running game
Touching back on Eli
SCGiantsFan : 1/20/2020 8:11 am : link
stepping in for DJ8.

A new offense is going to be installed. If Eli is not under contract, he is not on the team, he is not learning the play book or offense.
If its Labor Day weekend
Jimmy Googs : 1/20/2020 8:16 am : link
and we lose all of our tight ends to injury this preseason, we should call then Witten.

And get his recommendations of who we should really sign...
