Amari Cooper

nyjuggernaut2 : 1/19/2020 8:53 pm
I read on here recently that if the Giants cut Tate this offseason they won’t be hit with any dead money toward the cap because of his suspension. If that’s the case, what are your thoughts of cutting ties with him and going after Amari Cooper. I like Darius Slayton’s potential, but I also think having a solid #1 WR could really benefit our young QB.

No brainer

Tate can take his overpaid, aging, dancing after a first down despite team being down by double digits multiple time ass somewhere else.
Definitely not.

Tate is cheap. Cooper is not. Let’s spend our money going after someone like Yannick and Cocklin. Not a receiver. Plus, this draft is loaded with receivers. Can get a decent one later in the draft.
Not worth it...

and I think Cooper is a fantastic WR. A high level, smooth route runner.

But he's going to get money that would be much better spent on more critical needs. We could get two quality players for Cooper's salary demands. Probably three.

And if we can't find another good WR in this draft, Gettleman should go back to being a driver's ed teacher in Poughkeepsie.

I would rather have Tate

I think he is versitle and a very good run blocker. I would like to add one more speedster in the draft but I am ok with Tate, Shepard and Slayton. If he stays healthy, Engram really should be our number one receiving target. I also expect Barkley to have over 80 catches this year.

Resources must go to oline. we can compete with the rest of what we have on offense.
The draft is loaded with WR's. No need to sign one in free agency.

Much more important needs on the offensive line, plus all three levels of defense.

This.

Cooper is not an elite WR but will get paid by someone as such. Gets completely shut down by good corners. He would be a terrible signing.

actually, not a no brainer.

dumb comment

Tate is cheap, has a great rapport with Slayton, excellent downfield blocker, runs precise routes and is dangerous in the slot.
We’re already paying two WR’s good money...

No need to spend more big bucks there. If we can shore up some of our deficiencies in FA, I wouldn’t mind a WR in the 3rd or 4th round. But I wouldn’t allocate major resources to landing one in FA. I do like Breshard Perriman but I fear he may cost too much.
Interesting question.

I like Tate, and am unsure of Cooper.
But one thing seems clear - Judge wants to create a new culture here. I agree that WR will be one of those areas where we need to get better. Slayton is promising. But we need a true #1, and maybe one other complementary WR who will help Jones develop.
How about passing

Try actually using your brain next time because it’s not and would be a terrible use of resources.

I highly doubt we will be breaking the bank on a wide receiver.

Stop it.
Tate would be 7 million in dead money
Vanzetti : 1/19/2020 10:56 pm : link
He will be back

No way a Giants are going to spend 100 million on Cooper and also eat Tate’s contract
Where did you “hear” the suspension voids dead money!?
Saquads26 : 1/19/2020 11:02 pm : link
It’s guaranteed money...

I agree with Vanzetti
cosmicj : 1/20/2020 9:46 am : link
The suspension voided the guarantee of the 2020 salary which is now not guaranteed. The dead cap hit from the signing bonus remains.
With all the WR talent
LakeGeorgeGiant : 1/20/2020 9:46 am : link
in this draft it would be foolish to spend precious cap space on Cooper imo.

I think there is a chance they double dip at WR in this draft. Then you run with the horses you have. Tate sticks around for another year.
