I miss the feeling of playoff football and success

NY-Fan : 1/19/2020 10:02 pm
I damn sure hope Judge and this staff and team can put it together and get this team back to being successful. Hopefully this off-season will be a step in the right direction.
Get used to it

The lament of a fan and the doormat franchise he roots for....

Maybe within 5 years, we’ll be in a playoff tournament. Just don’t expect it in 2020.

No thanks Debbie, the future is bright in a weak division.

The Niners were 4-12 last year. I don’t expect the playoffs, but I expect progress. 7-9/8-8 & not having the season over in October to start.

7-9 vs our opponents in 2020 would be a MAJOR step in the right direction. I’m hoping for that very much. I do think we’ll still have a roster with a ton of holes come week 1 in September, unfortunately. And because of that, I think we’re headed for a 5/6 win year.
Maybe all this damn negative energy around the team
NY-Fan : 1/19/2020 10:27 pm : link
from the fan base doesn’t help. I know they haven’t given much to be positive about but a little positive energy wouldn’t hurt. I am under the belief that it is turning around and that Jones & Judge are a step in the right direction.

This team has drafted well the last 2 years and holds a good position this year along with salary cap freedom to address some things. I feel pretty good about what they have done and they haven’t even completed their staff yet.
Even if you get knocked out

you still feel like you are watching a tournament your team was part of

With these games, I felt no anticipation. I watched about two quarters of each. Then turned on a movie

I 100% agree. It is a fact of NY team fanbases in general (along with the NY media) that we can be overly critical of teams/players at the first sign of failure and lack of instant success. I don't think that is helpful and I believe it puts a ton of unneeded pressure on players/coaches who come here. Let's face it: these guys are human.

Now, I am not blaming this all on the fans by any means. Of course the fans can't go out on the field and throw the ball and play defense themselves, but I am just saying that negative energy from a fanbase is not always helpful. In all honesty I felt that Philly sports teams' failures over the many decades had a least a little something to do with their fans/media.

I always point to 2017 as a perfect example, because I remember thinking/feeling like that team was simply in a bit of a slump to start the season and had a lot of bad bounces go against them to result in a shitty record early on. But the vitriol spewed by fans and media so early did contribute somewhat to that team completely falling apart at the seams. Now, part of it is because those players were too thin-skinned and lacked the leadership from coaching to keep it together, we signed a bunch of guys in 2016 and their
"locker room culture" was all gravy... while they were winning. We found out that a lot of those guys (inlcuding McAdoo himself) simply were not equipped to handle the shitshow that the NY sports scene becomes when a team starts on a losing streak. Hence why everything spiraled out of control and next thing you know they go 3-13 and Eli gets benched and it only gets worse and worse.

Again, I'm not "blaming" the fans for the Giants woes. I'm simply saying: think about it, we always hear this phrase "does he have the mentality to be able to play in New York and handle the NY media?" Is that really a good thing that every player/coach has to consider that before coming here? We act like it's because we hold our teams to a high standard and that actually breeds success, but does that actually play out empirically? It certainly hasn't with the Knicks, Rangers, Mets, and Jets. The Giants and especially Yankees have historically had great successes over the years but I'm not sure I would point to the fanbase's short temper or the media's undying scrutiny as the underlying reasons for those successes.

I agree. I hope to still play games that count thru Thanksgiving.

such as the lean periods (1970s - early 80s)Then the Glory Years 1984-1990. Most of the 90s were up and down with no sustained success until Fassel but that came with devastating Playoff loses.
We are not that far removed from winning Two Super Bowls, which make me laugh when fans compare us to the Browns, Jets or Lions.
I get everyone wants to be The Patriots, Playoffs every year with numerous Super Bowl appearances but that Dynasty is an anomaly not the Norm.
Just think when the winning comes back , and it will how much sweeter it will feel.
I'm glad you posted this thread NY-Fan!

That's exactly how I've been feeling lately. Outside of that brief 1 and out disaster when that toolbag McAdon't was the HC, I haven't looked forward to the playoffs since the last time the Giants won the SB.
****I really hated when Philly won!****
But it makes the Draft conversations
