Garoppolo only passed the ball 8 times last night. 8 times!

Britt in VA : 1/20/2020 7:35 am
That is an unbelievable stat to me. He had only passed it six times by the start of the 4th quarter, and I'm not sure how many attempts in the first half when the game was already a blowout.
Feels good

The packers defense was physically dominated in ways you rarely see in a game at this level. I donít quite understand how that can happen in a championship NFL game. In college, yes, but in the NFL, it was just bizarre

Shanahans designs surpass Gibbs and his pops. His pre snap motion and use of the fullback is incredible. A lot of misdirection.

Never said less talented but if the niners win it all which is likely heíll be looked at the poster boy for game manager. Throwing the ball 8 times and winning the game has to be an nfl postseason record
So, how many times did he throw the ball?
Jimmy Googs : 1/20/2020 8:13 am : link

but, but you can't win by running the ball nowadays LOL
Victor in CT : 1/20/2020 8:15 am : link
that was beautiful to watch. I loved it. There is no domination in football like running the ball down the opponents throat all day and they can't stop it. And they can open it up if the situation/matchup warrants it. Totally demoralizing to the opponent. SF plays the way I want the Giants to play. To me, they are the model.

Big game for Rodgers too!! Horrid pick, many throws that were way off target, fumbled snap, stripped in the pocket, missing reads. Imagine the media frenzy if Eli or Jones had a game like that in the playoffs.
who cares how many times he throws? The guy is an excellent QB
Victor in CT : 1/20/2020 8:18 am : link
I think it's great that Shanahan has the balls to stick with what's working and not worry about how many throws for thw QB or targets for the WRs.

I really think if Belichick had his way he would have moved on from Brady after 2017 and played JG.
When they had that fumbled snap, Rodgers knew it was over.

Daniel Jones will lead the Wild Card Giants to a Super Bowl win, making an amazing, iconic throw in the final game.

And there will be a couple of posters for years after talking about how Jones was a game manager like Jimmy G:)

got into the HOF that way. Including going 8-11 in SB VII, and 6-7 in SB VIII. He also only played 6 games of the 72 perfect season. He finished his career with 192 TDs and 25092 passing yards, and a rating of 77.1.

Reminder: Simms went 22-25 with 3 drops in SB 21, was MVP, and won 10 games in the 1990 run. He finished his career with 199 TDs and 33462 passing yards, and a rating of 78.5

Not in HOF.

Yeah, but even Dilfer had to pass the ball more than 8 times. This is at some level below a game manager.

I forgot who it was who summed up why Brady was better than Rodgers, namely that while Rodgers can make the spectacular play, Brady makes the routine plays routine.

I tried to find it last night, but how many times did Phil Simms attempt to pass vs the Redskins in the 1986 NFC championship game? I thought that too was less than 10 attempted passes.

Much lower scoring game, too.

Simms on Jan 11, 1987: 7/14, 90 yards, 1 TD, no INTS. 94.3 QPR, ran 7 times for minus 2 yards...

Jay Schroeder completed 20/50 ! For 195 yards and was sacked 4 times for 45 yards in loses.

That was a very good Redskins team with a great OL, but those '86 Giants weren't gonna be denied.

If you were an NFL QB, sitting on the sidelines watching your team's defense get steamrolled by a NOBODY RB for over 200 yards and 4 TDs, what would you do or look like?

Brady would prolly be screaming bloody murder at the team's defensive leaders...

Yeah, IIRC, that was one of those Meadowlands wind games, a game where you wanted to run the ball as much as possible because once the ball was in the air you pretty much had no idea where it was gonna go.

Yup. And Phil threw better under those conditions, and knew them, better than anyone. He had a technique for it: the nose of the ball angled down on release.

The fact that Richburg has been out a few weeks doesn't dismiss the fact that they were able to get him to play productively when he *was* playing.
I think the overall concern and resistance you see
santacruzom : 1/20/2020 1:49 pm : link
In threads that celebrate a dominant running attack are based on a fear that we *think* we are on the path towards achieving an attack like that, simply by virtue of Gettleman's run the ball mantra. But we haven't been close yet. Hopefully poor coaching has been 90% of the reason why, that a simple change there can extract more out of our existing players. But I still think we may be a long way from, "Well the 9ers can do it and we will too."

Nah its fun to watch Barkley dance behind the line and pick up 14 yards on 12 attempts only to break off a 70 yard run when the game is already out of hand.
