Source says Giants will interview Dave DeGuglielmo for their OL coach job. Was on Patriots staff with Joe Judge 2014-15.
Folks are somewhat down on this guy, but he’s been the OL coach for 2 Super Bowl winning teams. Also Colts OL coach in 2018 when they had a great unit.
I guess my question is...what are the concerns with him?

DeGuglielmo spent time with the Giants from 2004-08. Return could be on the horizon. Also likely signals Bill Callahan is headed elsewhere.

The negative narrative on DeGuglielmo is that the Pats had to get Dante Scarnecchia to come out of retirement and replace Deguglielmo when he couldn't pass muster.
Any particular reason for that sentiment? Honest question there as I said I admittedly don't know a whole lot other than doing a google search and looking at the history.
In his tenure, the Giants made the playoffs four consecutive years, won Super Bowl XLII, and set a franchise record for rushing yards (2,518) and yards per carry (5.0) in 2008
Afterwards, he held the same job for the Miami Dolphins; in 2011 the Dolphins rushed for 1,987 yards in what was also Reggie Bush's first 1,000-yard season.
Thats better than anything Hal Nunter has ever done

He never seems to last anywhere. Got fired in Indy (although that was more McDaniels' fault than his own), and got fired in Miami last year. This would be his 5th new team in 5 years.
His latest Dolphins firing is a cause for concern. He was a stopgap replacement when Flaherty was abruptly fired earlier in the season. He didn’t do a good enough job to warrant being brought back, despite being well qualified for the position.

Long story short ... He doesn't sound good at his job and teams are always replacing him. Brady couldn't stand him and wanted him gone. I want someone with a proven track record. I'd rather have Callahan or Columbo as has been reported. This is the one area that needs top notch coaching and I don't feel if he is that guy. Every team needs help along the OL in the NFL. Good coaches at that position don't bounce around for lateral moves.
is a giant red flag. Maybe the Colts thing is on the McDaniels fiasco but last year Flores fired Flaherty to make room for him...and then fired him after one season. And of course BB fired him too.
And I hope they take their time and hire the right guy. Not sure Gugs is it. I’m not sure why the well regarded college OL coaches shouldn’t be looked at carefully.
The guy I wanted, John Matsko, was immediately rehired by Rivera when he took the job with the Redskins.

Gotcha. Hoping Judge will do his due diligence here bring in the right guy, from everything he's said so far I'd have to believe he will, but we shall see. Hopefully they'll reach out to Columbo as well.
on WFAN - female can't remember her name - saying she would be absolutely shocked if Callahan took a job reporting to Garrett.
She pointed out that not only did Garrett fire Callahan as his play caller but then he blocked him from leaving until his contract expired the following year.
Now of course it's possible Jerry made all those decisions so who knows. Just repeating what I heard.
but he's certainly bounced around the last few years, Miami in 2017, Indy in 2018 and Miami in 2019.
Indy hired Reich in 2018, so the change going to Miami wasn't due to a staff cleansing, anyone know why he went from Indy back to Miami?
I like that he was a part of 2 SB's, so he knows what it takes at least and has proven success I would say?
He might've been hired by McDaniels in 2018 before he jumped ship. I think Reich kept on most (all?) of the staff that McDaniels had put in place. From the article above, sounds like Reich then wanted his own guy for 2019:
Quote:
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero added there were rumblings of a possible change over the past month as Reich and DeGuglielmo weren't on the same page, despite the success. The Colts ranked No. 2 in the NFL in pass blocking and No. 4 in run blocking in 2018, per Football Outsiders' metrics.

Certainly possible, but why would 2 New England guys then bring DeGuglielmo with them? McDaniels lured him to Indy before bailing and then Flores brought him into Miami.
Though the Colts front office and coaching staff did everything they could to help Good in his time of need, the former seventh-round pick told Vic Tafur of The Athletic that there were issues with offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo.
“I came back after my brother was murdered and I was dealing with a lot of personal issues,” Good told The Athletic. “That didn’t sit well with (DeGuglielmo). He wanted players that fight through things and play.”

Sounds like a real winner.
It's pretty clear that Judge is really only comfortable with hiring Â
guys he's familiar with. Obviously the exception is Jason Garrett and that's probably because there may have been no former head coaches who Judge worked with and it's imperative for a first-time head coach to have a soundboard. Besides, there is the Nick Saban connection.
and I hope Judge is willing to look at coaches that he has never met, but have great reputations and similar coaching philosophies.
If you think about the Judge hire, he had never met Mara or Tisch, but Judge had a great reputation and was highly recommended by some of the very best football minds. Judge sold himself during his face to face interview and the high recommendations of others.
A few years ago, the Atlanta Falcons took a chance on Keith Carter as their O line coach. Grabbed him mostly on his solid reputation and work at San Jose State. Got the Falcons to the Super Bowl, and has since moved to the Tennessee Titans and done a really great job.
If you look at Zac Taylor, the young head coach of the Bengals, he did something similar. Went to the college ranks and grabbed Jim Turner from Texas A and M to be his offensive line coach. Its too early to tell how that will work out in Cincy, but clearly Taylor took a college coach who was respected as being one of the best at that level.
We don't really know what Judge is doing to evaluate possible candidates. I just hope that the biggest selling point on any coach hire is that "we used to work together".

If this story is true, it's not exactly a great look.
That Good story doesn’t matter because none of our linemen Â
results than DeGuglielmo. We obviously don't know how effective these coaches are, but I agree, from an outsider's perspective, hiring DeGuglielmo would be incredibly uninspiring.

I read in another thread he may be headed to Cinci to work with his son

Wonder if Rex Ryan fired him for being too combative...lol.

Right now they're not. But who's to say they won't in the future?
Why does every non-hire come down to "money" or the Giants being cheap? Just patently false.
I seriously doubt that cheap is the issue after all these years of shitty football.
Uhhh, you know about Nate Solder's son, right?
