The #Browns are expected to hire Bill Callahan to coach their offensive line, sources say. Important addition of a former head coach for Kevin Stefanski’s staff.
That once Garrett was picked as OC, Callahan was a pipe dream.
It would certainly seem that way. I'm still very happy with the Garrett hire. Being a HC in the league for almost 10 years means you are going to have some enemies, as well as friends.
why everyone would be so downtrodden that we didn’t hire Callahan. He hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire in Washington the past 3 seasons. Their OL was the epitome of average.

Yep you can argue DeGuglielmo has been much better.

Don't know if I agree there but I would agree he is probably a sizeable upgrade over Hal Hunter.
Numerous reports had Callahan as our one and DD as our number 2.
DD should be pretty good though. Now we need to improve the OT spots and Center spots without becoming too young across the OL. In other words at least one in FA.
Unfortunetly Giants aren't going to be the first choice for everyone. Â
There's many reasons for this. Hire the best you can and work hard. It's the same as in any business. For all we know he may not have been Giants first choice just because he was BBI's.
Maybe the Giants have contacted him. Maybe he's not interested. Maybe Garrett isn't recommending him. Maybe he's in conversation with another team (s) he'd rather land with. Then again maybe tomorrow we find out he's our next OLine coach. At this point it would surprise me because I think his name would have leaked out by now. Not counting on him and there may be a good reason we may know or never know why. We all know that it didn't seem to end well between Garrett and Callahan. I wasn't expecting him.
Garrett's offense requires a really good offensive line. If we can only get Googs right now, we might be in for another long season.
I'm not even sure what your post means. Any good offense needs a good offensive line.
Assuming he runs the Air Coryell offense, like he did in Dallas, that requires a much better offensive line then a WCO, like we ran last year. With a WCO, you can scheme around not having an elite offensive line (not that we did that). With Garrett's scheme, you can't do that.
That's why I'm saying there will be a larger requirement on a successful offensive line for success. Unless we improve our offensive line significantly through FA and the draft, we need a really good OL coach to have success with that offense.
No surprise to me we didn't hire Callahan. Not because he isn't a good coach but the relationship with Garrett was problematical. He took playcalling duties away from him in Dallas, blocked him leaving because he was signed and then fired him. Even if Jerrah was involved would you go back to working with that guy if you had other options?
Be realistic him rejoining a staff where he would be subordinate to Garret again was never going to happen.

Bill Callahan was interested in the Giants job before Jason Garrett was named the OC.
After that news, there was no way he was heading to NYG
I think NYG made a BIG mistake picking Garrett over Callahan. https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/121937617825718681
what an absolute load of horseshit. An OL coach who has been horrible as anything but, over a coach with 9 years at the helm of America's circus and is a well respected coach, teacher and offensive play caller. I'll take Garret and a hat rack over Callahan and anyone else. Simply idiotic.

You can't scheme around a bad OL. The WCO isn't about survival with a bad OL, it's a reliance on faster times to throw and reliance onn MORE players in the pass and run block scheme. You still have to be able to block and run. Even the pure WCO of Bill Walsh has 3 5 and 7 step drops and it employs HBs and move TEs to spread the field horizontally instead of vertically. It doesn't scheme for bad or subpar OL play, it's a totally different method of protection that relies on edge blockers in addition to a good OL. You have wildly missed the mark here.

I haven't seen a single report that had "Callahan as our one and DD as our number 2." All I've seen is speculation regarding the various coaching candidates based on availability and connections to Judge. But it's just speculation, not based on sources.
To this point all the information about Callahan was minimal Â
not just wrt the Giants but to other teams as well. There were a handful of rumors saying the Giants, Cincy and Panthers were all interested, and nothing more.
I thought the lack of an interview this long meant Callahan was unlikely to come here, whether it was lack of interest on his part or the other way around.
Your saw the target list! WOW!

Wrong, keep failing

Once the Giants hired Jason Garrett, Callahan was a long, long, longer than long shot to land in East Rutherford.

Never considered the list the Giants are working from may be different than the list fans on BBI might be working from?

Damn Dave, I didn’t know you knew how to use the internet, let alone post on BBI. Thanks for sharing the info though!

Every time a name is linked to the Giants and it doesn’t pan out, we get one of these posts.

Another January 2020 dupe showing up on every thread.
