Asshat info. Marc Columbo

I am good friends with Marcs dad... I have been doing business with him for over 30 years... I just got a text from him saying Marc has an interview w/ Judge on Wednesday...
That's all I know for now... will keep posting as I learn more.
According to Football Outsiders, the Cowboys offensive line was near the top in nearly all their offensive line metrics:
Second in adjusted line yards
Sixth in running back yards
Second in power rank
First in stuffed rank
First in second level rank
Second in pass protection
Second in sacks allowed
Second in adjusted sack rate
Second overall
Even for you PFF guys, Pro Football Focus graded the Cowboys offensive line fourth overall. The unit received the third best run blocking grade and the fifth best pass blocking grade.

You also have to factor in the players he was coaching. He had an all-star line. Everyone knows that.
the "red flag" with Colombo is his "limited" experience as a coach plus the Cowboys willing to part ways with him.
I have no idea who is better. I wanted Callahan but that was mainly based on name recognition and his resume.
Sure, but you can also look at it this way: McCarthy wanted his own guy in Joe Philbin (as has been reported all year) and the only guy it looks like he retained was Kellen Moore, who is a rising, young star in the coaching ranks.

Fair point. But in 2018 the Cowboys were 31st in fewest sacks allowed. Houston was the only team that allowed more. In 2019, they were 2nd in fewest with the Rams only allowing fewer. That's 33 fewer sacks in 2019 than 2018!!
that story regarding Guge is not a great look if it’s all true. That being said, it shouldn’t necessarily be a reason not to hire the guy. Plenty of stuff about coaches comes out throughout their career regarding players. This one is obviously not great, but I wouldn’t call it a deal breaker.

I agree it's not a deal breaker, but there is a pattern between that story and smaller ones like him spitting his dipspit at reporters with the Jets that the guy is a jackass. If he can toughen up our offensive line like he did in Indy and Judge can work with him, so be it. But I think there's a reason he keeps changing jobs and that's because people can't stand him. I'd much rather have Colombo.
it's also true that he helped the FO pick that talent - and maybe it's possible the Giants need someone who knows what a competent offensive lineman looks like.
but no one that is going to make shit shine. Talent needs a massive upgrade. Zeitler is the most overrated player I've maybe ever seen by this board. Hernandez is the one guy I think will make a big jump with a better o-line coach, the rest of the line I would be looking to upgrade as soon as possible
it's also true that he helped the FO pick that talent
Wait, where do you get this from?
I can't find the article I wanted, which also referenced his connection to Parcells, but here's another. He came up as a scouting intern before he coached:
Quote:
In 2014, Colombo joined the Cowboys' scouting staff as an intern. He worked with personnel chief Will McClay, putting together reports on players. McClay wanted Colombo to experience what the behind-the-scenes-life as a scout was like, and he also wanted his scouts to see what a player sees in breaking down film.
But in 2018 the Cowboys were 31st in fewest sacks allowed. Houston was the only team that allowed more. In 2019, they were 2nd in fewest with the Rams only allowing fewer. That's 33 fewer sacks in 2019 than 2018!!
Travis Frederick missed the entire 2018 season. Connor Williams was a rookie; he was so bad he got benched halfway through the season. They had to use him later when Zack Martin got hurt. Martin has missed just two games in his career - both in 2018.
Tyron Smith was also banged up that year; but at this point that doesn't really distinguish 2018 from most other seasons.
One guy whose performance improved dramatically: La'el Collins. Â
Collins went from goat to star this year. Hard to know how much that has to do with Colombo, or whether it's a coincidence that Collins plays Colombo's old position. Colombo was probably working closely with Collins from 2016 on; so if he deserves credit for LC shining in 2019, he has to bear some blame for LC's struggles the previous year.
Most likely, Collins is just a whole lot better when he has Frederick and a healthy Martin to his left, and a wily veteran TE (welcome back, Jason Witten) protecting his flank.
Would be a much more inspiring option than DeGugliemo

I think DeGugliemo is getting a bit of a bad rap around here.
this would be a ok pivot from callahan

Probably because his short stints in several places, which is a concern. But, that's probably more due to his personality than his coaching ability.
I believe the Giants hired Bettcher during senior bowl practices, so I wouldn't think it's odd
Some people are refusing to realize he has championship experience with OLs and recently had the Colts OL playing as the best unit in football.
None taken - made sure to give credit where it was certainly due

Colombo is also a favorite of someone else with Giants ties: Bill Parcells.
Mentioned earlier today that DeGuglielmo considers Tom Coughlin a big influence.
You can connect a lot of dots with both candidates.

That may be, but he comes with plenty of red flags, most notably his inability to stay in one place for long.
Jets for one year
New England for two years
San Diego for one year
Miami for one year
Indianapolis for one year
Back to Miami for one year

Parcells was always tough on Colombo. He essentially rescued Colombo from the scrap heap.
BTW, Colombo was the one who came up with the nickname "Barbie Carpenter". Haha
I don't see "plenty".
The one you raise is important, but he appears to have gotten results where he went.

That's the most notable red flag, but his butting heads with players (as reported in the thread) is another huge red flag.
And he's been fired at a couple of places. The teams had to reach out to guys in retirement to replace him! Seemed like it got pretty dire.

This REALLY bothers me when it comes to DD.

Certainly seemed that way
But I would not count out DeGuglielmo. Judge doesn't seem to be concerned about him.

One would think the Garrett connection would win out in his new role as OC having to work closely with the offensive coaches.

A source for that would be nice to read.
I am looking for the interview but you can probably find a copy on the net
He sounds like the prototype of what Judge wants in a coach
No nonsense, intense, fixated on technique, a teacher, and wants tough players
He had a great line but he challenged them to play better and had no problem calling them out

Now, bear in mind I said he helped - he wasn't the puppetmaster or architect of the current Dallas OL.

long time lurker... Seldom poster... Get all my NYG info from BBI... Have enjoyed it since "ye olde days" w/ Pete's Corner.
Marcs dad knows how big a Giants fan I am... He should send me an update after the interview on Wednesday... If he does I will share it.
Don't know how it will all end up.... Cant help but being optimistic with the regime change.
