devotee of the “ air coryell” “sid gilman” offense. If so it i’ll be interesting to see how the giants possibly institute this with their current roster.
I watched Coryell develop this in St. louis in the early 70’s with the Cardinals and then was fascinated and amazed by Mike Martz “tweaking” of this to the “greatest show on turf” with the Rams, first as OC, then as head coach after Vermeil retired with a super bowl victory from his offensive coordinator’s offense.
The problem is this vertical offense requires a strong and big offensive line that can hold its blocks, a strong sturdy qb who can take a beating, yet put the ball donfild to a spot, at least to two very fast wr’s who can run to the spot, a rb who can pass pro, is quick and a great receiver. Watching this work at the game is amazing in a way that tv can really never show. The St. louis fans i don’t think really appreciated how great this offense was with Kurt Warner running it and all the parts working.nKurt took a beating but he could put the ball to spot where the receivers got to it.
i’ll leave it there it’s too long already but who here thinks the giants roster can make this offense work without a lot of reconstruction. DJ has the spot accuracy and ability to take a hit does he have the arm? Probably but the rest of the equation seems a long way away.
Please let me know and if it’s all not worth it I can delete.
OL is another matter entirely - unless they find the next Orlando pace.
No 8-yard passes on 3rd and 10. More 10-20 yard plays and some 20+ yard plays than we have seen in the past 4 years. These still require better pass blocking than the Giants have been delivering.

Agreed Ivan, the poor pass blocking really exposed us in Gilbride’s last few season as OC because they couldn’t protect Eli long enough for him to hit teams with the long passes. We really need to load up on the offensive line this year through draft/FA. Jones being a mobile guy makes things a bit easier though.
The so called Greatest Show on Turf had an entertaining run for a few years with two Super Bowl appearance's.
But Belichek and the Tampa Two defense was able to slow it down.
Garrett came on board to bring his expertise and Play Judges New England approach of being a Fluid and flexible offense.
Seemed to work pretty well for Dallas. Particularly when they were playing the Giants.
Dallas is likely around the league average in using motion. They used it between 7% and 11% of the time last season.
Pre-Snap motion - ( New Window )
Dallas' offense is more likely to be replicated. First draft O linemen early for 3 years, got the RB who can make the most of every carry, and can be serviceable as a receiver. Need to get a 2 way TE, which has been elusive for the Giants to say the least. Slayton could become a consistent, capable, deep receiver, and Shepard is a nice slot receiver who also blocks, and Tate, is Tate. Matching Dallas' WR corps is not an impossible task. And Jones could very well be more effective than Prescott, taking advantage of a vicious run game and surprise defenses with roll outs, bootlegs, and the like.
So, Giants closer to Dallas' offense IMO, and that wouldnt make me mad, with the hope that Jones could be a better passer with the same mobility.
