George Asafo-Adjei

buddyryansux10 : 1/21/2020 7:56 am
Remember this guy? He was placed on IR I think beginning of 2019. Pre-injury concussion, he sounded promising in the beginning of training camp ( huge grain of salt taken of course ), and I believe he was praised/drafted for working "effectively" everyday against his college teammate Josh Allen, who proved himself his rookie year obliviously.

Contributor this up coming year? I think he would be a good test of the new OL coach, whoever that may be.

Horrific concussion or maybe they knew he wouldn't be much help in year 1 and they were stashing him on IR.

This is most likely. He was going to miss two weeks of camp. A 7th round pick is behind the 8 ball anyway. Stash him. Get him in the weight room. Get him watching film.

Not really sure what they expect from him, but what the heck a swing tackle would be nice...

Remember that he was a 7th(?) round pick

rarely do 7th round picks become fantastic players or even value starters.

not sure what happened to him but its not huge if he washes out.

Giants definitely should not base this years draft or FA on him being a big But if he is GREAT!

I've seen so many great linemen who were UDFAs that I don't discount a 7th round pick off the cuff.

7th rounders are basically giving a team a clean shot at the UDFAs that they don't have to lure to your team after the dust settles.

I don't know if Big George has what it takes to be a steady RT or swing tackle, but I wouldn't discount him. And as someone pointed out earlier, last year was basically a "red shirt" year for him. Hopefully, he's gotten himself in great shape during the year off and has a better grip on the playbook. Stepping up to the NFL is a big jump and I'm rooting for him.
This is what we're reduced to.

This post from October is really the only thing I saw. I have seen a lot of players deal with post-concussive syndrome. Not necessarily dealing with concussion itself but dealing with resolving the symptoms brought on by the concussion. There could be a lot of contributing factors , but it can make people absolutely miserable. And can be very scary ( especially now a day with CTE concerns). I don't know that this is the case, but it could explain it. There is a really good story of a hockey player in players Tribune a few years ago I will try to find it

^This. His concussion must have been bad, but he might be able to recover so they put him on IR. Nobody knows what he could become. He's a blank slate. With a year in the weight room and watching film, he might surprise. He also played in the SEC, and went up against Josh Allen in practice every week.

but at least with a broken foot he theoretically should be able to recover and contribute on some level. With a concussion that keeps someone out an entire season, I would imagine that would be seriously career threatening, especially in this day and age.

What was Richie Seubert once upon a time? A UDFA who was a good athlete.

Let's get an OL coach who can develop Big George into an asset. OK it's a shot in the (almost) dark.

If he practiced well vs Josh Allen, he has a shot. Let's hope he's a worker. All too often that's the diff between chick feathers and chicken salad.

I'm not missing any point. Why would it be stupid? I may not be right, but if they saw potential, but clearly needing physical upgrades to his body and knew he would not be ready for this season in any capacity, why not put him on IR. Clear his concussion, let him lift weights, eat correctly and watch film. Keeps him from being cut and pilfered from the practice squad if not initial claimed.

He it is all mindless speculation but if it was a severe concussion (like Shepard's that cost 4 weeks) why chance further damage this year.

Here's an idea: How about we stop taking shots in the dark and make major investments in the most important unit on the offense? How about not waiting until the 7th Round in the draft before we draft an O-Lineman? How about not depending on reclamation projects like Remmers, chronic underachievers like Pulley, and failed experiments like Halapio? Good coaching - even great coaching - will only get you so far if you don't have the talent to go with it.

Finally, how about not making excuses for a front office that's had two years to fix a problem and has failed miserably?

This. The new coaches pretty much have to evaluate him based off of college and he was a 7th round pick. At this point he may not even make it to the 90 man roster. I guess a lot depends on how he shows up to mini camps or how he carried himself while on IR.

If we sign a RT in FA or Draft one high his career as a Giant may be over. I know we are all pulling for the kid to be a player but it is a long road for him right now.

I watch every week and am amazed at the names I see. Who the heck are most of these guys, yet they play well.

I have felt for years that coaching is more the reason that the line is awful. Yes talent does help. But I'll use Hernandez as an example - why in the heck was this guy struggling this year? Also, why was Zeitler not up to snuff. Yes he had a neck injury early. But for Pete's sake, this guy is a top guard and has been. He comes to the Giants and sucks???
Also, Nate Solder at 31 all of a sudden became one of the worst LTs in football? He was never close to All Pro - but he was league average.

So, it isn't just talent. It is far more.

Why would the regress? Yes they are not getting physical practice(moot point since there will be a new Offense next season). Will he be football rusty? Of course, look at Sam Beal.
But he gets to see the mental part of the game, gets to reshape his body, learn how to train, build physical strength.
I'm spit balling here. But if he isn't a drain on the teams resources, he's like a FA this year.

the eggshell skull factor
ColHowPepper : 1/21/2020 10:29 am : link
There is a saying in tort law that the tortfeasor (civil case that might be common battery in a crim case) takes his victim as he finds him. That's another way of saying if a culpable actor hits his victim over the head (as end objective or in connection with conversion (larceny/theft), and victim has an 'eggshell skull', tortfeasor cannot use that 1 in 50,000 chance to exculpate himself.

Concussions takes its 'victim' accordingly. A head trauma that might barely register as skull jarring/rock and roll injury to person A might be life altering for person B. Teammate of my daughter (who has suffered from head trauma) landed flat on her back, head hitting the wood basketball floor surface. Seven years later she still suffers from headaches and finds it challenging to read for long periods, though she has managed to complete college.

If George continued/continues to suffer symptoms, his docs may advise that he risks lifelong deficits. Giants may be hoping for the best, planning for the worst.

You're kidding, right? I've lost count of how many times posters here have said them to me.

Klaatu Barada Nikto. That has come up for me in so many trivia games over the years. Yes, the original is one of the best Sci-fi ever made, lost count how many times I have seen it over the years. The remake is a disaster.

a funny parody of those three words in the film "Army of Darkness" which I suppose many have seen.
Bonus Questions:
Klaatu : 1/21/2020 1:44 pm : link
1. After Klaatu gets shot, Gort appears and begins zapping the military hardware surrounding them. What does Klaatu say to get him to back off?

2. In the final scene, after Klaatu gives his warning speech to the assembled dignitaries, he turns to Gort and says one word. Then he enters his spaceship followed by Gort. What was that word?

As Triumph the insult dog would always say: "Now you are asking to be pooped on". I actually do Know the final instruction which is Baringa. The other one I have no idea and I am not searching the internet to find out. Maybe another film buff in here will know it.

No one knows? Well, it’s been almost two hours....

1. Deklato prosko

I will wait a bit more to give others a chance on 2. That is easier.
I see giant power answered it

Ha! I love Triumph. I posted a video of him at a Star Wars premier not too long ago. I think it was for one of the prequels. Anyway...

Gort, Diklepto Brosko!
Big ups to both of you.

That Star Wars preview is absolutely hysterical. It was for the premier of "Attack of the Clones" or as Triumph would say: "Return of the Dorks".

I decided to watch the remake last night and surprisingly I liked it much Much more than when I watched it back in 2008. I even remember how upset I was watching Gort become all those flying bugs, but last night, I appreciated the idea much more and saw the wisdom in doing that. I guess I wanted more of Gort to flex his muscles back in 2008 and was disappointed in the bugs. And of course, Jennifer Connelly is very easy to look at. Even Will Smith’s son, was superb.

I changed my IMDB rating from 6 to 9.
