But I always admired him for how he successfully fought off his inner demons and became a respected vet in his later years.
Me too. He's one of my fav Giant QBs. Despite that he folded like a beach umbrella under pressure, his long ball was a thing of beauty and he had a cannon arm
I'm about to turn 31 in a month, so I'm not a spring chicken per se. And yes, I've seen Eli since 04, when I was 15. But considering the jury is out on Daniel Jones, Kerry is the only other competent QB I remember watching as a Giants fan Sure, there were those Warner games, but behind that line and with Warner's propensity to fumble when hit, hear footsteps, and lack of arm strength, I enjoyed watching Kerry more. Kerry also had a helluva arm.
It might be an attachment to the era of Giants football I first remember, but I always felt that Collins, Tiki, Shockey, and Toomer are really under appreciated on this board.
I still have the "NYTD BLUE" poster from my adolescent bedroom rolled up somewhere in my parents basement, with those 4 on it.
RE: Flea flicker to Toomer vs. the Colts to open the 2nd half...
And for a QB, he was a pretty big dude. Not just his height, but he was a wide fellow, and I don't mean that he was a fat, but just a wide, solid human being, especially for a QB. I'm glad he's doing well and hasn't gone back to drinking or anything. He's been sober for along time now. Good for him and his family.
I was some past playoff highlights and it got to some plays from the Vikes playoff game we won 41-0
My God did Kerry Collins throw a beautiful ball
He really did. It was easy to see why he was drafted so high. When he was on his game he was an elite QB. The problem with him was consistency.
Yup and you could tell right away how his game was going to go. If he hit his first couple of passes, look out but if he threw a few incompletes he was pretty much done for the day.
He never really seemed to shake off bad starts to games but man when he was off to a good start it was fun to watch him sling it.
And I liked him, but he was one of those guys where I always held my breath waiting for the big mistake. And he wasn't a final 2 minute, game winning drives guy. The very thing Accorsi judged QBs on, and saw in Eli.
RE: That ball goes in the air from the five yard line....
that I can't remember the mid-90's Dave Brown era. Been watching the Giants since Simms (I'm only 47), and can recall Simms, Hostetler, and Collins. But for some odd reason, I can't recall any memorable plays by Brown, Kanell, or Graham.

You don't remember Kent Graham beating an undefeated Denver on their way to a SB title? Or Dave Brown trucking a certain defensive back known for not enjoying contact?
but the way he pretty much gave up and said "count me out" when the Giants drafted Eli soured me on him
In fairness to Collins they told him the plan was to handle the transition. Knowing full well he was losing his job, most likely that season - why would he stay? He still had plenty of tread left on the tires, and wanted to go elsewhere to continue starting.
Collins might have been a great QB, if not for that jaw injury early in his career and his personal demons.

I watched all the games, but I can honestly say that I can't remember. It is like a void in my memory. Of course, during that time, there was a lot of recreational activities that could explain the loss of memory.
Collins threw a BEAUTIFUL ball. But you could tell in the first
I think it goes
Manning
Simms
Tittle
Collins
Tarkenton
Tarkington is a HOF Argument could be made he s # 1 same for Tittle
But I would pick Simms as number 1
But Tarkenton only played 5 years with the Giants. And shit the bed in the most important gamme he played with them against LA Rams when a win would have made the playoffs.
Also, MIN won as many SBs with Tarkenton as they did with Joe Kapp.
My God did Kerry Collins throw a beautiful ball
It's got to be a conspiracy.

He was prideful, I can't blame him for that. He complimented Manning highly in that article.

Right out of halftime also (IIRC)

That was beautiful indeed.
Jesse the bachelor Palmer looking as fearless as ever.

GiantsFC, with all due respect, Tarkenton should not be on that list, Charley Conerly belongs there.

Also, how many 300 yard games did he have with us, seemed at the time it was like every game.
