I've been hoping for Baun as a bargain, but the secret is out: Badgers develop LBs. Story misses what I think is a key reason: 3 successive excellent DC's (Aranda, Wilcox and now Leonhard) who are masters of the 3-4.
Interestingly, the switch to the 3-4 came *after* Bielema left UW.
So Biadasz may be slipping and Baun rising. Another reason to trade down for more picks.
Finally, a UW ILB getting no press is Jonathan Orr. I actually liked him more than Connelly, and I would definitely snap him up in a later round.
I liked Van Ginkel better (and I believe Sy valued him, or was it Dave?). Don't know how he was doing in Miami before he got hurt. Obviously we have guys on the staff now who do.
Gman, that's pretty common, especially in programs like UW's that rely less on 4 and 5 star recruits and focus more on development (including walk-ons).
On many HS teams (especially in cold weather areas where youth football development is not year-round) the QB is your best athlete (and might play on both sides of the ball).
I remember years ago I was surprised when they converted a QB low on the depth chart to tight end.
Owen Daniels went on to have a very good career in the NFL.
Anyway - Baun sounds great, would love to have him.
I've thought him as an OLB (position at UW) but article mentions him as ILB. Orr was an ILB, and as I have said, I would take a flyer on him, if possible.
