Joe Judge is one hungry coach

Eric from BBI : Admin : 1/22/2020 3:15 pm
Dan Duggan @DDuggan21

Joe Judge on what he's looking for when interviewing assistants: "Teach me something. Make me better by listening to you instruct...Teach me how to make a peanut butter jelly sandwich. Teach me. Make me the best peanut butter jelly sandwich maker in the history of the world."
Probably why he hired Kitchens

That's easy, it's all in the bread. I mean quality preserves and quality peanut butter count, but the voyage from good to great is all about the bread.

That's the first thing I thought - the last thing you want to be giving the NY media is funny sound bites they can run with.

New York, the Michael Scott/'That's What She Said' media capital of the world.
I am cautiously very optimistic

PB & J sandwiches
yalebowl : 1/22/2020 3:42 pm : link
1). You must toast the bread first

2). Most important - a knife for the peanut butter and a spoon for the jelly

Under no circumstances do you use a single knife for both the peanut butter and jelly. Otherwise, one or the other jar will end up with jelly in the peanut butter or peanut butter in the jelly. That’s a total gross out.
I don’t mind the personality

If you toast the bread first, how to you untoast it? I wouldn't eat a BP&J on toast unless the bread was stale.
And what's the problem with 2 knives and no spoons? Or simply do the jelly first, lick off the knife and use it for the peanut butter. Then you only have one utensil to clean.

I know, it's crazy.

Gettleman still hasn't lived down a passing comment about Barkley being touched "by the hand of God" or playfully poking a little fun at analytics.

It makes zero sense to put any weight into what is said to the media because it is designed to be innocuous. If you believe "hand of God", "hog molly" or "PB&J" are in any way relevant or signify anything, the fault is with you, not the person saying it.

I can't see how anyone using an illustration about teaching can be taken negatively, but that is what this board has become..."please give me something more to gripe about! Bad football isn't enough"

1) Agree on no toast... preposterous statement
2) Bread must be as fresh as possible; best PB&J is when you open a brand new loaf of bread right from the store
3) Who is using jar's of jelly these days? Use Squeezable.
4) If jar jelly... use knife for pb, wipe as much as you can onto the bread, then wash the knife before you get the jelly

I disagree, I don't mind it with Judge because this is his first such quirky quote.

But Gettleman just can't help saying stupid shit and it's unbecoming of a top executive of a multi-billion dollar business and is a huge distraction and headache. We wouldn't get half the shit we got for drafting Jones if he just didn't make himself a target.

UConn4523 : 1/22/2020 4:42 pm : link
really that much of a distraction and a headache? The only people bothered by it seem to be BBI posters and a handful of media people.
It's not about the ingrediants
JKBlue : 1/22/2020 5:01 pm : link
It's how you use what you have.
Use fresh bread, if you don't have the freshest bread, toast it.
Chunky or smooth doesn't matter, make sure you have the exactly the right amount covering your bread. But not so much that it squeezes out the sides.
Any flavor jelly as long as again it the perfect amount to complement the peanut butter. And again, not so much that it squeezes out the sides.
Make sure the cut is clean and straight, no matter where it is diagonal or down the middle.
Place it on a clean plate, slightly open so that you can see the ingredients on the inside. Make sure any sides do not touch the sandwich.
Damn, now I'm hungry.
It's fairly common
mpinmaine : 1/22/2020 5:02 pm : link
in training when interviewing people you expect to instruct well to ask the applicant to teach the interviewer something like making a sandwich etc,,,could have said grilled cheese

It's not necessarily inane. He is trying to generalize a concept. You can often see this tactic employed during job interviews to remove specifics and vernacular and gauge a thought process.

One of our favorite interview questions we'd use to gauge someone's troubleshooting skills: "my paper is broken. How can you help me?" Somehow no one has ever taken us literally.

To be fair to him, I think he's sensitive to over the top analogies because of DG. That said DG mouths off without thinking, Judge seems extremely thoughtful.

Festina Lente : 1/22/2020 8:29 pm : link
Those of ya'll that use that colored sugar "jelly" in plastic jars are really missing out. In my humble opinion, the greatest variable in quality is the jam. Get a good natural chunky jam (I like wild blueberry but sometimes I switch it up with figs etc if i am feeling frisky). Of course, there are higher quality PB's but even a decent one like Jif tastes great if you got the jam right.
