Programming Alert: Madden & Summerall

NFL Network showing replay of 94 regular season 49ers-Chiefs game with this pair calling the action.

I could listen to these guys all day. Nothing like it.

of Madden saying something about the equation of force and power and momentum, and my high school physics teacher (who was a huge Giants fan) bemoaning how he got it all wrong in class the next day.

He and Summerall were a perfect pairing. I wish more of today's play-by-play announcers adopted Pat's approach during big moments: a straight, punchy exclamation ("...and Morris is gone!"), followed by silence, letting the play and crowd/player reactions speak for themselves.

94 season was one of the best seasons I have ever witnessed by an NFL player (although he didn't play in this particular game).

But I swear I remember a Thanksgiving game in which Madden made some remark like, "that's 8 turkey legs... double the usual!" and Summerall responded with a bewildered: "Turkeys don't have 4 legs!"

I loved those 2 and that was a fun game! They knew football cold.
