“I want to talk to players they’ve coached, I want to talk with coaches they’ve worked with, I want to talk to coaches they’ve gone against, I want to know what kind of multiples and problems they present for opponents,” Judge said.
and feel great about all of this BUT, ultimately this has to show on the field next season.
Thanks Captain Obvious....
Winning is not as important as an interesting and optimistic offseason. The season is only 17 weeks. In the Giants case 6 weeks. The games are overrated.
that Judge is describing here is much lighter than what we heard the head coaching interview process was like?
Now that could well be because most of the vetting is done well in advance and for all candidates rather than just the new hire, but it's weird to hear the guy who was hired in a manner of hours is now conducting interviews both vertically and horizontally. Not a complaint mind you, I'm a fan of what he's doing.
The other side of this is getting players who will learn from good Â
Before he brings someone in for an interview, Judge said, “I’ve made at least 50 phone calls on the guy, even if it’s someone I know directly and had a working relationship with.”
This seems a Little Bill level of attention to detail. I just feel completely differently about this hire than any time I can remember.
The assistant coaches will be of far superior quality Â
I'm sure there will be some "misses", but overall, the Giants coaching will be far superior to what we saw under McAdoo and Shurmur.
Judge will have his "rookie" mistakes and learning to do. It ain't going to be smooth sailing!
But finally I have some hope.
There's a chance, that maybe, just maybe, this HC hiring decision will prove to be the best decision the Giants have made in many years.
Coming into the 2019 season, I thought that with top notch coaching, the team could possibly go 8-8. The coaching sucked and the result was disastrous. The second factor was the OL, which was lousy. I thought the OL would be better than it proved to be.

is important this year: NFL teams were informed recently they’ll have 45 18-minute formal interviews at the combine, rather than 60 15-minute interviews. It’s related to schedule changes that move drills to primetime.
what is different about what Joe Judge has done versus what has been done before? What is the overriding decision factor, metric, or data point used to build the staff and what level of increase will we see in production of football output from the team? Namely winning.
Listen I understand the commercials and the marketing, but what will be the result?
The two big changes are the criteria and the timeline.
First the emphasis on teachers not presenters. That's an important distinction and critical for such a young team.
The other is taking his time. The last two hiring processes felt rushed by fear of losing 'their guy'. Well how do you know they're really your guy if you don't do a thorough vetting and interview process? It never made any sense to me and the crap staffs assembled my McAdoo and Murmur reflected it. It's a meme oft repeated by BBI open mouth breather contingent. You should never go into an interview with pre conceived notions of who should or will get any job.
For example, Graham and Henderson I don’t believe have the results on their resume. Assuming they are good teachers, then why don’t they have good results? I guess the best answer to that question is, they just don’t have good enough players. So, it still all comes back to the quality of the players. I mean, you could teach up some guys who still just won’t be able to implement your teaching, right?
So, hypothetically, what do you do if your secondary is still not getting it and breaking down on their assignments like we had all of last year? Hire new coaches or find better players are usually the two choices.
as I pointed out constantly during Shumur's tenure Â
it was painfully obvious the teaching was really poor, as well as the gameday management and adjustments. It reflects on the their depth of knowledge as well as poor teaching. This is why they were gone after two seasons, it was plain as day. Young players need to be taught how to become NFL professionals, how to prepare, how to be multiple on the field, etc.
Thanks Captain Obvious....

The coaching has been addressed.
Now, go fix the fucking OL, finally.
