Funny story about "The Cyrkle."

A friend of my wife lived out on Long Island and one spring day she was working in the backyard and her mother had the window wide open.

My wife's friend could here the radio (or maybe it was the record player) blasting "Red Rubber Ball" over and over again, so she yells into the house for her Mom to turn it off.

Her Mom eventually comes out and tells her the music is coming from the garage next door. Sure enough, it was members of the Cyrckle jamming their new hit song.

My wife's friend knew the guy next door loved to play the guitar but had ZERO idea he had formed a group and launched a hit song!!!

Going back a little more

Here's a few favorites I used to play on the stations I worked for
Red Dog : 1/23/2020 12:26 pm : link
Pipeline - the Chantays - THE BEST surfing record EVER. Hear the giant waves roll down 4,000 miles of the North Pacific and break on the north shore of Oahu (Wiamea Bay).

Since I Don't Have You - the Skyliners - Back seat music at its best.

Twilight Time - the Platters - Back seat music at its best, part II.

I Only Have Eyes For You - the Flamingos. The record to just sit back, unload your mind, relax, and listen closely to. Amazing stress reliever. And the song was actually written in 1912!

Blue Moon - the Marcells - Truly incredible story behind this awesome song and record would take a whole long post to tell. So just enjoy Do-Wop music at its best.

Island of Dreams - the Springfields - Worldwide hit that didn't make it in the US except in Chicago. Features the awesome vocals of Dusty Springfield before she went on her own.

Don't Worry Baby - the Beach Boys - girls, cars, and racing, and in fabulous harmony - what more could you want?

Poor Side of Town - Johnny Rivers - His record company didn't want him to record it, but it became the best record he ever made.

Remember Then - the Earls - What this is all about.

And there's a lot more where these came from.

but what the heck. Here are a few pop hits from when I was a kid that I like to hear when I'm flipping stations:

Day After Day - Badfinger
If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot
Just Walk Away Renee - Left Banke
Go All The Way - Raspberries

Not for nothing,
rnargi : 1/23/2020 2:12 pm : link
but if you like this kind of music, Little Steven's Underground Garage plays a ton of it among other great music on Sirius XM. They do an incredible job weaving old pop with new.

"First Cut is the Deepest" by Cat Stevens - his version is best.
"Runaway" by Del Shannon
"The Wanderer" by Dion
"Groovy Kind of Love" by Wayne Fontana

So many classics...

That song and other Beach Boys songs would ring in my ears through out all those New York winters. During that horrible winter of 1978 I swear WNEW-FM must have played a Beach Boys song every 15 minutes.

I look back and I wonder of that one song is the reason I wound up out here.
