What I don’t get..
Everyone always tries to minimize/belittle a lot of really good QB’s saying “yea but did he win?” or “really good QB but won’t win you a championship”

Same people turn around say Eli’s 2 SB wins aren’t enough to get him in HOF!?!?!

Eli is a & #128274; HOFer

On Burton Burns leaving for the New York Giants: “Burton’s been with us from the very beginning and he’s done a great job for us in so many ways. I think it’s pretty obvious all the players the he mentored that play in the NFL. I think every running back that ever started for us since we’ve been there. He’s been a great recruiter, a great ambassador for the program and came off the field because of injury situations to him — bad knee, bad hip. Spent two years pretty much trying to get healthy. And now he had an opportunity to go back onto the field and he loves coaching, he’s doing it and we’re happy for him.”

When MoveTheSticks talks draft I listen
DJ has the Giants going Mehki Becton at No. 4.
Becton is 6-7, 370 and moves like he is 300. I've seen NFL comps to Bryant McKinnie, Trent Williams.
If what I read is correct, he didn't allow a single sack in 2019 at LT
Highest-upside OT?

Not even close. Flowers had major technical flaws and physical limitations. He was way over drafted

Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL)
1/22/20, 1:08 PM
MoveTheSticks: I mean it's not like he is anywhere near as technically-awful as Flowers was, for EX. Becton didn't allow a single sack in 2019 and has only allowed 3 in his career.
He could be one of the only OT prospects worth a top-4 pick, IMO, from a ceiling standpoint

Crepea Oregon Live: Inside Calvin Throckmorton’s quick journey to the Senior Bowl, where the Oregon Ducks OL is playing left tackle for first time in over 14 months

“What I’ve been telling teams is that I think I’m a plug-and-play starter on the interior, but if you need help at tackle then I’m a guy that’s going to come in and do the job,” he said. "I take a tremendous amount of pride in being able to do that and try to to be the best player I can possibly wherever that is. ...
“I kind of just like that trench aspect, doing the grunt work and being down in the trenches and go to work and grind guys. Doesn’t matter if it’s two or three yards every play, those are going to start turning into five or six-yard gains. I love the mentality of playing on the inside. Tackle I like to be out in space and be able to go against those top edge guys.”

Newspaper reports: In 1931 after spending time in Kansas, Burnett met the Giants president R.M. Marsh in St.Louis, boarded a yacht, sailed down the Mississippi, thought the gulf and up the Atlantic coast to arrive for training camp.

1931: AP From November 3, 1931 The warden at Sing Sing prison, was starting a football program and was looking for volunteer coaches. The New York Giants "immediately responded," “They announced that six players, Ray Flaherty, Glenn Campbell, Bill Owen, Butch Gibson, Dale Burnett and Ted Bucklin, would be 'incarcerated' long enough to give the Sing Sing boys a few pointers."

Giants owner Tim Mara had donated enough old uniforms and equipment to get the program started a few weeks prior to this.

Inspiration for the “Longest Yard”?

11-26-1933 Burnett catches 85 yard TD pass in Giants win over the Packers.

Mil JS: “Bad break No. 1 for the Packers came about midway in the first quarter. Green Bay was deep in Giant territory and it looked as if Steve Owens' clan was on the run.
Out of nowhere Burnett bobbed up on the horizon near his 15 yard line, grabbed a pass from Herber and never stopped running until he crossed the goal line 85 yards down the field. En route, he sidestepped a half dozen
Bayites who attempted to take a fall out of him. As is customary, Ken Strong booted the cowhide between the uprights.

Bad break No. 2 came with the third quarter about four minutes old.
The Packers had been backed up in their own backyard by a parade of missed signals and some other school boy performances in the backfield. Hinkle was rushed fast on a punt and he only booted out of bounds on the
Bays' 36 yard line. The Giants turned on some steam and soon had the ball on the Bay 20. Then Newman tossed one to Burnett. Clark Hinkle came up fast and batted the ball from Burnett, only to have it fall into Badgro's arms and he proceeded to fall over the goal
line.”

Schmitt BBI: The 1933 New York Giants

“Brumbaugh’s placement put the Bears ahead 23-21 with three minutes on the clock.
The Giants looked to strike fast after receiving the kickoff, and lined up in the same unbalanced formation where Hein had run with the snap-handoff in the first quarter. Only this time, Newman took the snap and pitched to Burnett who ran right, while Hein released as a receiver. The Bears were fooled a second time, but Burnett was pressured by the pass rush and his throw was high and wobbly. The arc of the ball allowed Molesworth to recover and knock the ball to the ground incomplete before Hein could get his hands on it.
After moving the chains there was time left for just one more play, and Newman called for a hook-and-lateral. Newman completed a pass to Badgro who had Burnett trailing him. Grange had been in position and when tackling Badgro, he noticed Burnett looking for the ball. As he wrapped up Badgro, Grange pinned Badgro’s arms to his body. Badgro was unable to release the ball to the wide open Burnett as Grange wrestled him to the ground.
Grange said, “I was alone in the defense and Burnett was coming at me with (Hein) on the side of him. I could see he wanted to lateral, so I didn’t go low. I hit him around the ball and pinned his arms.” Badgro unsuccessfully tried to run through the tackle once he realized he couldn’t deliver the ball. “If I’d gotten by Red Grange, I would have scored. Grange had me around the middle. His arms were around the ball and I couldn’t get rid of it. If I get by him, we win the game.”
The clock expired and the final gun went off. Owen overheard an official near the New York bench ask, “Who won?” to which Newman quipped, “How should I know? I was only playing.”

1934 NFL Championship

“He was a key player in the famous "Sneakers Game" of 1934 when the Giants defeated the previously undefeated (13-0) Chicago Bears, 30-13, for the NFL championship at the Polo Grounds in New York City.”

1938

On November 24, 1938 the Brooklyn Dodgers were headed to a 7-0 win over the Giants. In the final quarter Brooklyn stopped the Giants at the 3 and 1 yard lines. With the Brooklyn coach request to play for safety being ignored, a partially deflected punt gave the Giants one more chance at the Brooklyn 12. Giants QB Ed Danowski tossed a flat pass to Burnett who dragged the Brooklyn defender into the end zone with less than a minute left. The extra point gave the Giants a tie and kept the Giants first place.

1938 NFL Championship

“Burnett, who was also a defensive back, intercepted a Green Bay Packer pass on the final play of the game during the 1938 championship game to preserve the Giants' 23-17 victory.”

Kansas Hall of Fame

1939-1942

“In 1939 Burnett joined Patterson of the minor league American Association as player/coach.
His Paterson team finished just behind the Giants affiliated Jersey City team featuring Danowski and Ken Strong.

In 1941 after selling the Jersey City Giants farm team, John Mara began a working agreement with Patterson and kept Burnett as player-coach where he remained through 1942.

“The original Celtics also called Burnett the best independent basketball player they ever faced.  Burnett was inducted into the Helms National Collegiate Football Hall of Fame, 1959.”

is one of the early great Giants who has sadly become forgotten over time.

He had been the earliest holder of the Giants all-time receiving record for many years - it may have been broken by Don Schnelker in the late 1950s, but I'm making an educated guess off the top of my head - and was also the receiving TD holder. Given that he played a chunk of his career before the forward passing liberalization in 1933 that is quite remarkable. Steve Owen always mentioned him as being the best receiver he ever coached, and that included two HOF ends in Ray Flaherty and Red Badgro.
Calvin Throckmorton sounds like a solid round 3 target

He is better inside but could be a solid RT for a couple of years.
