But the one thing I know is this has to be a way bigger priority than in year's past. I like Jones, but we no longer have the undisputed toughest player in the NFL under center.
he'll want to start somewhere or at the very least go where a qb is on shaky ground. don't put that crap on Jones
a Case Keenum or Chase Daniel or Blaine Gabbert or AJ McCarron is where there headed.
might be nice to get a better player, but a Mariotta or Bridgewater will cost more than we should spend. We do have money, but I'd be annoyed if it went to qb
Garrett's backup was Cooper Rush. He is a RFA I believe. Hardly ever played. I would prefer a little more experience.
I agree, I would like to see someone like Matt Moore or Drew Stanton. Career backups that have shown the ability to come off the bench and win a game or two. It wouldn't surprise me if it's Tanney though
Whether or not the Giants win the Super Bowl next year isn't going to depend on the backup QB. And I think it will help Jones to have a familiar face in the QB room. Tanney will be someone who Jones can bounce things off of when it comes to comparing the pluses and minuses of the new system with last year's system.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! Who cares who the back up is? He is a back up. Somebody to take snaps. You want to pay $5 mill for a guy you never want to see the field?

Money is better spent on players who contribute more than a backup QB. Have a Vet min guy, maybe Tanney and someone for the PS to run the scout team.
We have a lot of holes on this team, if Jones is out for a long period of time we are screwed anyway. i also think he would have been able to play this season on the ankle if we were in contention.
Might as well keep him around (I've heard he's really good in the room) and spend our free agent money filling the many holes we have on defense and on the offensive line.
However, I wouldn't be opposed to the Giants bringing in a veteran QB like Chase Daniel, Matt Moore, or A.J. McCarron if they thought one of them could help.
Went to a summer camp training session for the first time last August. Â

Shurmur is going to want him back. Gettleman should see if he could coax a conditional 7th rounder out of the Broncos for him :)
Both Jones and the backup should have similar styles and both should Â
Is willing to take the veteran minimum (Which he won't) he is not worth the money. Even the veteran minimum is too much for him IMO.
I don't see the attraction. He has not exactly lit up the world during his career and has done nothing but under performed. He lost his job to Tannehill in a QB friendly system. (A la Dilfer)
Then Tannehill started doing something Mariota couldn't do. Win.
Ugh no thank you.
A.J. McCarron, Trevor Siemian or even Colt McCoy would all be better back ups for Jones.
Or someone who we could pay a similar contract with. I definitely don’t want to pay too much for a guy who I hope never plays. We need to spend our limited funds wisely. 1 million for Tanney seems smarter than 5 million for Keenum (although I don’t know how much we could settle for Keenum). If 1-2 million, Gmen yeah, maybe consider him.

Intrigued by Mariota but might be a perfect fit for Ravens.

If you don't care to have ~zero chance to win a game with your backup, Tanney is acceptable. Otherwise, no.

And the only place Fitz will play, other than Miami where he is under Contract, is Tampa Bay or the Clearwater Senior League.

no discernible talent and no upside.

Nice one Milton. Totally remember that video when it came out...totally didn't remember that it was Tanney making all those throws.

Andy Dalton
Case Keenum
Blake Bortles
Chase Daniel
Ryan Fitzpatrick would he my #1 choice but Miami is expected to keep him.
