before they put Eli in the ring of honor? They said they are not retiring numbers anymore, but are using the ring of honor.
Has this ever been confirmed? Not once have I ever seen a quote from anyone in the organization saying this. It seems more like an old wives tale at this point. There is no way in hell his number doesn't get retired.
QB Fran Tarkenton and LBer/safety Bran Van Pelt and I’m sure some others I would find if I looked it up. So “Ring of Honor” will have to do, although case could be made for other 10’s for Ring of Honor.
“For 16 seasons, Eli Manning defined what it is to be a New York Giant both on and off the field,” said team President and Chief Executive Officer John Mara. “Eli is our only two-time Super Bowl MVP and one of the very best players in our franchise’s history. He represented our franchise as a consummate professional with dignity and accountability. It meant something to Eli to be the Giants quarterback, and it meant even more to us. We are beyond grateful for his contributions to our organization and look forward to celebrating his induction into the Giants Ring of Honor in the near future.”

I guess. I don't know. But as one poster said above, there is no way another player should ever wear #10 for the Giants again. Could you imagine the absolute shitstorm that would ensue if they handed out his number again?
Maybe they should treat the 10 like they do with the 88 in Dallas and give it to the team QB once he because team captain especially with the history that the number has had in the Giant organization. That would be one way to honor Eli without retiring the number but make it special
I understand the problem with limited #'s but there really isn't a threat of problem at the QB position in that regard.
Eli not only holds all the important QB records for the organization he has also brought the organization twice as many championships as any other Qb, and as many as the other three QB's with numbers retired combined.
Then add to that how well he has represented the organization and there is no reason not to.
He certainly belongs with Conerly, Tittle, and Simms as QB's with retired numbers. Sure the Ring of Honor is no slight but it's still not the same either. He is that special you make the exception.
ownership should revisit the policy of retired numbers. Current retired numbers should be reviewed and decide whether they will remain retired. I've suggested in the past that retired numbers should remain retired until the player passes away. Then 5 years after the player's passing, the number should be reviewed by ownership whether to keep the number retired.
I think there should be a compromise with paying respect to the player's contributions and their place in the franchise's history.
Unretiring a number after saying that it would never be worn again Â
To me why Al Blozis #32 is retired? He was only a Giant for two years. Sam Huff seems worthy enough of having his jersey retired looking back on all of his accolades.

He was drafted into the Army, went off to fight in World War II and was killed. According to records, the Army originally wouldn't take him because he was too big, but he kept trying and eventually they let him serve. Then he had to make noise all over again to get a job serving on the front lines instead of behind a desk.

QB numbers are much easier to retire than numbers at most positions.
Simms didn't make HOF.
+1. The rosters in football are just too big.
Who, would we say, is the 2nd best Giants in team history who doesn't have his number retired?
Maybe it's morbid, but I think #10 and #92 should be considered Dead Guy numbers - off-limits at least until the standard-bearer checks out.
