After discussing why Rhonde should be in the HOF-which he should-they talked about his time with the Giants.
When Eli was drafted, Tiki was told Eli was different than Peyton, not in a bad way.
He said team wasn't that upset when TC benched Warner for Eli. Warmer was a system QB that didn't mesh with Giants. Tiki said it would have been different if Collins was still around because guys knew him.
He claims his comment about Eli's leadership being 'comical' was misinterpreted. He was trying to say Eli was a funny guy. I don't buy this, but okay.
Has a good relationship with Eli currently.
Also, thinks 07 Giants weren't close to winning it all.
You guys can see Tiki's comments in America's Game on the 2007 season.
He shouldn't have shared that little nugget at the time, but he did. So own it now.
And you can watch this video.
It was a long time ago but that’s the way I remember it.
Steve, Tiki is the one bringing it up again. And he's lying. So there's that.
Eli Manning's Retirement And Iconic Legacy | Tiki + Tierney
They wanted the Giants not to Draft a QB and stay with Kerry Collins.
In fact they openly lobbied Accorsi not to do so but he politely told them to go pound sand he was going to what's best for the Franchise.
I don't believe it was a coincidence That Eli started to blossom once Tiki left and Shockey got hurt.

He said he no longer wanted to play football because Coughlin’s ways made him hate it.

I don't think Tiki leaving had any positive impact on Eli. Actually Eli was better statistically in 2005 & 2006 than he was in 2007, but he matured as a QB. Back in those days it took longer for QBs to adjust to the NFL. Here are some numbers from Eli.
2005 - 3762 yards with 24 TDs & 17 INTs
2006 - 3244 yards with 24 TDs & 18 INTs
2007 - 3336 yards with 23 TDs & 20 INTs
To be honest I think it hurt Eli as it would for just about any QB. Tiki was playing unreal the three years he played with Eli. Here are Tiki's numbers the 3 years they played together.
He had 5,040 rush yards at 5 yards per carry with 27 rushing TDs. He also had 1573 receiving yards at 9.6 yards per catch and 4 receiving TDs. So a total of 6,613 yards from scrimmage and 31 TDs in 3 seasons. An average of 2,204 yards and 10.33 TDs a season is just unreal. There's no way that negatively affects a young QB IMO.
This is the guy who claimed that telling the press that the team was out-coached in 2005 was meant as constructive criticism for Coughlin.
He's 15th in NFL history in yards from scrimmage. Every other player in the top 15 is already a HOFer or will be when they get the chance. Him and Barry Sanders are the only players in the top 15 that played less than 11 seasons.
If he would have played 2 or 3 more years like most of the others in the top 15 he'd probably be top 4 all time in yards from scrimmage. Frank Gore is 4th all time. He has 3,611 more scrimmage yards than Tiki.
It makes me sad that he gets bad mouthed by so many fans. His numbers are just ridiculous, but he was also a very very nice person to the fans. I've met him a bunch and he's always been extremely friendly. Probably top 5 nicest NFL players I've ever met and I've met thousands.

I don't either and I've said this before, that Tiki was far more loyal to the Giants organization and Wellington than Strahan was. Tiki was a great player, one of the best to ever were a Giants uniform. He said some dumb things, so what it happens. Many players do or have done much worse.
You remember the crap MS pulled when Fassel had to leave one week for his moms funeral?
And the reason Tiki chimed in about MS's contract situation was because Strahan openly questioned whether he could trust Wellington's promises with regard to the contract. Tiki basically said in response that if you can't trust Wellington Mara who could you trust?

Let's not forget he had alot to say in the media when Strahan got his new contract. Saying Tiki is more loyal to the Giants than is nonsense. He's been a shit-stirrer within the organization (and out of it) since the early 2000's.

Tiki opened up his mouth about another players' contract negotiations and called him 'greedy.' A situation that had *nothing* to do with Tiki.
This is who Tiki has been for along, long time.
I agree. It is funny how much things have changed since those days, though. Some used to criticize Strahan for getting as much money as he could (and while he was still a great player in his prime). These days, people actually want players to get as much money as they can. Hilarious when you look back at it.
+1

He's really not. I saw it live, I immediately interpreted it in the context Tiki is claiming it was in today, but also knew the media would completely blow it out of proportion and make it a stupid controversy which is exactly what they did. Tiki was commenting on Eli's growth as a leader but all the media heard was Eli's attempts at leadership was "comical", full stop. The only thing truly comical was the Pavlovian response by the media and subsequent reaction of Giants' fans. Sorry not sorry. That's the truth. It's always been a take controversy.

Sure he probably said a few things he should have kept quiet, but at the time I'm not sure he was wrong. Now he looks very wrong. Tiki was an all time great New York Giant though. He should be a HOFer in my opinion.

Agree 100%
I never get the Tiki butt hurt around here. from 2000 on he was the best running back in modern history and its not even all that close. His last 2 season he had 4. 4!!! 200 yd games (3 in 2005 alone). We don't even sniff the playoffs those 2 years without him. Sure he said some stupid things. Who cares. We all worship at the alter of LT and he treated his family like absolute garbage for decades. I prefer to remember the night in Giants stadium where I was there and he beat the Chiefs all by himself basically. Or how about the day he honored Wellington's memory with over 200 vs the Skins...the 200 yd games vs. Oakland in 2005 and 06 vs the Raiders and Skins to clinch playoff spots. The list goes on. The huge season he had in 2000.I love Strahan but man he said some stupid stuff much of his career but he stuck around for that 2007 season so all is forgotten...A someone pointed out he and other vets spent the whole 2004 training camp whining about drafting Eli.

It's not that simple. When you delve into the stats, you realize that Eli started playing better after Shockey got hurt as well. He had a horrific game against Minnesota that year, but without Tiki and Shockey, he was firmly in control of the huddle out there.
I am a Miami Hurricane fan as well, and Shockey's talent is undeniable. But he was a me first player his entire career. He would often run the wrong routes, and when he was open but didn't get the ball, he would go back to the huddle and call Eli out on it.
By the way, Steve Smith was out for an extended period of time in 2007. When he came back from injury, Eli was much, much better. He wasn't really integrated into the offense until the postseason. I could have lived without Steve Smith plopping that ball up against the Pats in SB 42, but so be it. He made some huge catches in that game.
Sorry, men live by their words. I have only admiration for Tiki the player, but not Tiki the man. And,I still haven't forgiven Reggie Jackson for his comments about Thurman Munson,so Tiki has to wait in line!!!
Tiki hate is idiotic. People really need to drop it
Honestly, people still hung up on his personal mistakes and him throwing Eli under the bus should check the skeletons in their own closet. No one is perfect. We all screw up. The best we can do is learn, grow, and be better.
But Tiki also kind of made this situation for himself. He decided to play the media game and he did so badly. He wanted the spotlight in his post-football career, so people remember how he mismanaged that.
Tiki was a HOF player that quit in his prime because Tom Coughlin wouldn't back off on Tiki taking practice hits on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Right on brand for Coughlin especially pre-2007.
Tiki was not joking about Eli with the comical line and he'll never live it down and ruined his good will with Giant fans.
Both things can be true and they are.
But as Eric said, his comments are on tape. As a friend of mine says, "We can look this sh*t up".
Now he's trying to downplay it, and I heard this morning on WFAN (Boomer) that he actually said he, the Giants all time leading rusher, had something to do with Eli's success because of his retirement. LOL

tiki hate is utterly idiotic andni totally agree with big Rick, but this post I quoted is the absolute WORST take
Why?
What Tiki said is on tape. We all saw it. It was not taken out of context at all. The press didn't just call him out on it, his teammates did. Tiki did similar crap during his last year as a Giant, making it all about him.
He could have been this generation's Frank Gifford. Instead, he's become an assclown.
He's tried to redeem himself a number of times, but he simply can't man up and say, "Hey, I screwed up." Instead, he continues to make excuses.
To his credit, Eli bitch-slapped him and he's never recovered from it.

This. I'm very over Tiki Barber's comments 13 years ago. But if you're going to bring it up and lie about it, then sure, fuck you.
I probably wasn't the only Giant fan who immediately thought Shockey's injury might be a blessing in disguise. He was a really good player, but it seemed pretty obvious he was a distraction to Eli (throw it to me!), ran bad routes that resulted in incompletions and sometimes INTs, etc.
Whether Tiki affected Eli's performance negatively isn't as clear, but I'm sure his departure made it easier for Eli to become the leader.

1) You have no idea what is happening in anyone's relationship, it's stupid as hell to cast judgement
2) I'm assuming you hate nearly every pro athlete ever? Acting like that's just Tiki is ridiculous.
Tiki might have a bit of a fat head, but the dude was a class act on the field, bled blue, was the greatest RB the Giants have ever had (so far, better than Barkley for sure), was articulate and smart as hell (went to UVA on an academic scholarship). As far as pro athletes go, I think he's extremely easy to root for.
What he was saying about Eli wasn't anything that wasn't being said by 60% of BBI at the time.
