I just love the fact that both of these franchise qbs, which let's be honest is the face of the franchise, would rather retire than play somewhere else. Now, I don't begrudge other teams guys for doing it (such as Montana), but it feels much more than a piece of laundry when a player refuses to wear another shirt. And over the last 50 years the three biggest Giants were probably LT, Eli, Phil, Strahan, and Carson and none of those guys took a snap in a uniform other than the Giants. I think it is something special.
(You list LT, Eli, Phil, Strahan, and Carson.)
Simms was my Eli
He has done everything to be objective about the Giants early in his broadcasting career, but now seems comfortable with his Giants legacy and acknowledging the memories.
There might have been some bitterness when he retired, but he (and Eli) are my two favorite QB's!
I was there when they retired his number and LT went down the field to catch one of his passes during the ceremony.
I thought I wouldn't get another favorite Giants QB in my lifetime.
Eli proved me wrong.
Let's hope DJ makes it a trifecta!
You look at what the Browns, Redskins, Jets and others have gone through - Giant fans are very fortunate to at least have that stability.
They burned a first rounder with Brown. To this day, I have no idea how anyone thought he was NFL-caliber. Nightmares of him under pressure just unloading balls straight up that were easily picked.
As bad as 95, 96 were, definitely worse now.
Hopefully, all this works. I'm tired of Thanksgivings coming without a horse in the race.
Alas...it wasn't until Kerry Collins that we had an NFL QB again!

it's cool that Eli/Simms didn't wear other jerseys, but in fairness to the others who were/are the face of their franchises (Montana, Peyton, Favre), those other guys had HoF caliber replacements at the ready.
The Giants believed they had that with Hostetler, and then with... Dave Brown. :(

Bill B had an eye on Brown too and wanted to draft him if the Giants didn't when he was HC at Cleveland for whats its worth

Kerry didn't have Eli's brain and better decision making but he had a much bigger arm and stronger delivery. Collins would flick his wrist and toss a frozen rope missile downfield like it was nothing
Denver Superbowl was awesome....hated Hostetler starting the Bills game but OJ carried the day.
I began watching the Giants when Tarkenton as the QB.
Low point was probably the fumble...
Parcells and beating SF in SF with Burt smacking Montana is one of my fav moments as a fan. As is Reasons and the 4th down hit against the Broncos and the fake punt run...
Eli in my mind though is the Giants all time best QB in my mind....solid and under rated. He beat the pat's twice as a big underdog. The win in the cold in GB always sticks out as does the day he took all the hits from the 49ers. A team player who led by example and a QB who would have had much better stats if it was not for the failure of the front office to field a competitive team. The Earnhardt offense fit him.. strong run with play action pass.
I never saw Tittle play... Simms is right there but Eli is the guy...we are lucky to have had them both..once a Giant always a Giant

Wrong SF game. It was Marshall that smoked Montana at SF. Burt smoked him in NY in 86. Burt almost put Hostettler out of the game with a cheap hit in the 91 SF NFC Championship game. He was on the Niners then
