Every single scouting report I read is that burrow has a very average arm strength (and that might be generous) but rave about incredible accuracy and mental makeup.
Can’t help but wonder how Jones would have fared with LSU talent around him instead of Duke talent. Seriously, the Duke wrs and OL talent was barely Division I talent as I watch some of his games. It was that bad. My biggest worry is if Jones developed bad habits bc of this. Yes, we know he is fearless and keeps his eyes downfield in the face of terror, but part of me things the fumbles and holding on too long are the negative consequence of this. Hopefully, it is correctable as we fix the OL.
I know this is a “what if” thread and hypothetical, but it is kinda of ironic now the current sentiment, unless it’s a smokescreen, is how amazing Burrow is after Jones had the year he had. The talent gap between LSU and Duke is staggering and I would even go so far to day Jon3s has a stronger arm than Burrow. I have seen a lot of Jones and and a bit of Burrow.
Burrows I assume still #1, but I'd take him over Herbert or Tua at this point.
Fire away. The above is irrefutable.. Lol
Curious if Burrow puts up the stats in Cincy that Jones did with an awful OL in New York.
If you've watched Burrow just in the playoffs, it's unreal. He did things no other college QB ha done before, and he did it against how many top 10 teams...teams that incredible defenses that had no answer.
7 TDs in one half against Oklahoma. 70% passer over 5,000 yards easily...60-6 TD to INTs. It's not a fair comparison to Jones, who has the makeup and skills to be a franchise QB, but let's be real, the real comparison is Burrow against the best QB prospects to come out of the draft in the last 20 years. This is not hyperbole. The arm strength thing is not important, he has enough. He makes all the throws, and the ball placement is elite plus. To me Burrow is an athletic Drew Brees.
Who are the greatest QBs of all-time? Brady never had the huge arm, either. Montana didn't, Drew Brees didn't. They could make all the throws, though, and so can Burrow.
There's a reason that Burrow is going to go #1 and it's not that he played for LSU. Factor in the talent he had sure, but the opponents he absolutely shredded were incredibly talented as well, much more than what Jones faced at Duke.
They do have similar skillsets, but Burrow is just more advanced in those skills coming into the NFL.
You certainly can't discount the flat out amazing year Burrow had, he was flat out historic. Yes he had tons of talent and Jones definitely did not.
I would say they are a similar players and we will find out in years to come regarding the comparison. Bottom line is we can all be happy we have Jones and it's not like we would've had a shot to draft Burrow anyway.
Who is giving Jones crap? I think the public at large sees talent there.
I think Jones will be a good QB in the NFL
My only concern is he has never won. You can only be Danny “it’s not his fault” Jones for so long. This season we have to see Jones start to win games. He lost several games with his turnovers. That can’t continue
Burrow is definitely a better runner, more shifty and faster, and seems to process things quicker.
Of course, I am judging Jones against NFL defenses versus Burrow against college competition.
I think most of us are just pointing out only die-hard Giants fans would pick Jones over Burrow, that's all. That's no knock on Jones.
