Joe Burrow v Daniel Jones

NJBlueTuna : 1/24/2020 5:36 pm
Every single scouting report I read is that burrow has a very average arm strength (and that might be generous) but rave about incredible accuracy and mental makeup.

Can’t help but wonder how Jones would have fared with LSU talent around him instead of Duke talent. Seriously, the Duke wrs and OL talent was barely Division I talent as I watch some of his games. It was that bad. My biggest worry is if Jones developed bad habits bc of this. Yes, we know he is fearless and keeps his eyes downfield in the face of terror, but part of me things the fumbles and holding on too long are the negative consequence of this. Hopefully, it is correctable as we fix the OL.

I know this is a “what if” thread and hypothetical, but it is kinda of ironic now the current sentiment, unless it’s a smokescreen, is how amazing Burrow is after Jones had the year he had. The talent gap between LSU and Duke is staggering and I would even go so far to day Jon3s has a stronger arm than Burrow. I have seen a lot of Jones and and a bit of Burrow.

I don't see it as this

disservice to Jones. In addition to the vast discrepancy in production, Burrow simply blew away the eye test to a degree where you can't just dismiss it due to his cast. And if you do, you also have to take the caliber of his opposition into account.
Forget about how Jones would have fared at LSU.

Think about how Burrow is going to fare in Cincinnati.
He is a very interesting comparison
DonnieD89 : 1/24/2020 6:31 pm : link
I was thinking the same thing.
like Eli before him

Jones is my QB. All that matters is that he outperforms Burrow in the NFL in 2020 and beyond. No reason to doubt that he will.
Burrow threw 4 Perfect Throws in That Championship Game

Very Impressive...Enuff Arm Plus.
This brings me back to ridiculous Daniel Jones arm strength debates
BSIMatt : 1/24/2020 7:46 pm : link
Saying he doesn’t have an elite arm is not equivalent to suggesting he has a below average arm...which he certainly does not.
Just for fun...

If Jones was going into this year's NFL draft - with everything we all now know about him from his first year of playing - where would he go?

Burrows I assume still #1, but I'd take him over Herbert or Tua at this point.
To be honest...
NJBlueTuna : 1/24/2020 10:44 pm : link
The only difference between the two is that Jones is a better runner. Both are deadly accurate and LSU talent is better than Duke talent.

Fire away. The above is irrefutable.. Lol
Jones is not a better runner

They are about the same but I give the edge to Burrows. Daniel ran a 4.8 at the combine.
Yeah, Jones is not a better runner
BSIMatt : 1/24/2020 11:00 pm : link
I actually think there are a lot of traits Jones and Burrow do share, however to sit from 10000 foot view and say they are the same player reeks of ignorance and a lack of a knowledge not only about the respective players but also the details of playing quarterback. The more you post about Burrow the more you convey how little you know about him.
It is comical...

If you don’t think Daniel Jones is the better runner. It’s a red herring though bc I was comparing them as QBs coming out of college and wonder how the perception of Jones would have changed if he had the talent at LSU instead of what he had at Duke. Anyone who watched a Duke game would have seen his OL and WRs.

Curious if Burrow puts up the stats in Cincy that Jones did with an awful OL in New York.
Burrow is without a doubt a better runner than Jones
allstarjim : 1/24/2020 11:34 pm : link
The comparison doesn't even have to be made, but since it is, Burrow will run a faster 40 than Jones, but more importantly, Burrow accelerates to top speed faster than Jones. This is all based on watching them both play, but I think it's easy money to get Burrow.

If you've watched Burrow just in the playoffs, it's unreal. He did things no other college QB ha done before, and he did it against how many top 10 teams...teams that incredible defenses that had no answer.

7 TDs in one half against Oklahoma. 70% passer over 5,000 yards easily...60-6 TD to INTs. It's not a fair comparison to Jones, who has the makeup and skills to be a franchise QB, but let's be real, the real comparison is Burrow against the best QB prospects to come out of the draft in the last 20 years. This is not hyperbole. The arm strength thing is not important, he has enough. He makes all the throws, and the ball placement is elite plus. To me Burrow is an athletic Drew Brees.

Who are the greatest QBs of all-time? Brady never had the huge arm, either. Montana didn't, Drew Brees didn't. They could make all the throws, though, and so can Burrow.

There's a reason that Burrow is going to go #1 and it's not that he played for LSU. Factor in the talent he had sure, but the opponents he absolutely shredded were incredibly talented as well, much more than what Jones faced at Duke.

They do have similar skillsets, but Burrow is just more advanced in those skills coming into the NFL.
Has any young qb

Taken more crap from the public at large for what was a fairly impressive rookie season than Jones? I don’t know if he ll be an elite an but he had a solid rookie season. After last year the media was ready to crown Trubisky after an identical statistical season in year 2 on a better team. Murray was praised this season. I guess I don’t get it with Jones.
uh one a Heisman winner

and NCAA records...that's your comparison. Both will be compared at NFL. Neither have proven anything in the NFL yet.
Jones vs Burrow

Although hard to make comparisons more like projections but one thing I will note is Daniel Jones is younger than Joe Burrow. Jones has 1 year of NFL games under his belt.
You certainly can't discount the flat out amazing year Burrow had, he was flat out historic. Yes he had tons of talent and Jones definitely did not.
I would say they are a similar players and we will find out in years to come regarding the comparison. Bottom line is we can all be happy we have Jones and it's not like we would've had a shot to draft Burrow anyway.

Who is giving Jones crap? I think the public at large sees talent there.
I take Burrow hands down
Vanzetti : 1/25/2020 1:24 pm : link
But it’s a moot point since Giants don’t have the number one pick

I think Jones will be a good QB in the NFL

My only concern is he has never won. You can only be Danny “it’s not his fault” Jones for so long. This season we have to see Jones start to win games. He lost several games with his turnovers. That can’t continue
LSU has had this type of talent for years, only Burrow could unlock
Jim in Hoboken : 1/25/2020 3:45 pm : link
the potential in the rest of the team.

Burrow is definitely a better runner, more shifty and faster, and seems to process things quicker.

Of course, I am judging Jones against NFL defenses versus Burrow against college competition.

I think most of us are just pointing out only die-hard Giants fans would pick Jones over Burrow, that's all. That's no knock on Jones.
Joe holds the ball

with 2 hands when in pocket and rolling out before throwing it and he holds it tight....good lesson for Dimes to learn early
