Not certain what the issue is, or that it matters. Sometimes people just want to hate.
If there's any hatred, it's probably based in the idea that the fictional Starfleet was an organization dedicated to exploration and peaceful coexistence with other species. A branch of the military coopting this logo might seem like a slap in the face to hard core nerds.

I'm a hard core nerd and I don't have a problem with it, in fact I think it's just as cool as naming the first space shuttle "Enterprise."
There's been an ongoing debate among Star Trek fans about whether or not Starfleet was a "military" organization. It's like the Picard faction on one side, and the Sisko faction on the other, lol. For me, as long as you're equipping your capital ships with phasers and photon torpedoes, you're part of the military.
Now, Jim Kirk once said, "Our missions are peaceful. Our weapons defensive." But he also once said, "The best defense is a good offense, and I'm going to start offending right now." I'm sure the Klingons, Romulans, Gorn, and Orions would understand.
but Chocco is right. It's just modifying the 1982 one. So, blame Reagan(?)
It's easy to blame Trump, laugh at this, etc. But, you are right. It is much closer to the 1982 logo than Star Trek. Now, if you want to say the 1982 logo was "borrowed" from Star Trek, I'd agree. But, this seems to be an update to the old logo.
I'm a Star Trek fan and I like the new SF logo. But if you don't see the humor in this or think this thread is somehow taking aim at the military or Trump then you need to unclench your asshole a bit. If you're going to be offended on behalf of someone, then join hands with the logo designer. Is he/she upset about it?
It's a silly debate, but outside of the missing Atlas i can't Â
Now look what yall gone and done.
Please explain why.
Ha ha George Takai laughing said they should get royalties...
That is actually pretty interesting.
That is not Pleiades - too many stars and too random.
What is the implication?
Quote:
on the left looks like the Pleiades, and the one on the right looks like Zeta Reticuli. Interesting choices to select.
What is the implication?
In UFOlogy, Zeta Reticuli is home to the "Greys."
In Star Trek lore, it's home to the Zeta Reticuli Orbital Research Facility.
Right out of the bob lazar tape
It does that is a interesting choice to put on your logo.
Yeah let’s spend time analyzing grown men playing a kids game.
They’ll need it to hide from the Teddy Bears:
I better re-read this thread, I missed the ones with hatred

But, I have a hunch that if people agreed with his politics, they'd be saying "what a cool homage to Star Trek."
But it's not a big deal in any case.
Douche.
