I actually felt bad for Daniel Jones today.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 1/24/2020 8:01 pm
Just looking/hearing at all the comments today from people across the spectrum...he's got some serious shoes to fill. And even Eli detractors will soften in the coming years & go all 'Eli would have made that play', even though they wanted to run the guy out of town on a rail for years.

Just an observation. I think DJ will be fine, but Eli's legacy will look better and better by the year if he struggles. Hopefully that's not the case & Jones is hoisting a Lombardi before too long & we got a Favre to Rodgers like transition.

As with Eli,

he is unfazed, imo
I wouldn’t worry about it

He’s not a “shrinker” (like Eli), he was at the presser and sent a FB message to Eli. The event gives him perspective.

Agree. For all here that are only too happy to skewer DG for just about every choice he has made as GM, and I was not one thinking kindly about the Jones pick at 6, I think DG is putting more emphasis on mental makeup than Reese and Ross ever did, and in particular with Jones, his mental makeup will turn out to be his greatest asset.

But he does throw a lovely accurate short to medium ball too, with wonderful touch.
Actually, I wonder if DJ isn't a bit relieved...

That Eli won't be around anymore. Not that there was any bad blood between them, no way. But it's tough enough to replace a legend without having that legend in the locker room, in the QB room, on the sideline. I'm sure they'll talk. I'm sure if DJ ever needs advice about anything he'll have no problem calling Eli, and Eli will have no problem giving it to him. But the baton has been passed, and it's now DJ's job to run with it and begin his own legend, God willing.
BB56, good point.

Similar makeup. I'm just thinking how I'd feel.
I see it the other way....

It was probably a thrill.

Agreed.

If anything, it seems like he welcomes it.
A guy like Jones
BLUATHRT : 1/24/2020 8:32 pm : link
I believe relishes it. How do you not see what that was. And want to exceed it as a competitor?

Make me #3.. he is 22, got the world by the...Eli is getting love and accolades and it is probably a thrill to see it, be a part of it and being the guy chosen to replace a legend.
Hopefully he's thinking

But also very smart. He wont take anything away from #10.. But he (WE) move fwd... Simms moving on is the closest in comparison... Giant Legends.

I think DJ is about to rise.
I think this was a fantastic day for DJ

He saw firsthand what respect and love given to a QB who gives his all as a NY Giant. What an excellent life lesson!

Let the record show, I'm the first one here to post that. :)

Seriously, though. When I saw Jones on TV when they were taking the picture of former and current Giants together, I did wonder what was going through Jones' mind.

If anything, I think this has to be incredibly motivating for Jones. He got to see firsthand today what can happen for him if he wins a championship or two. If he does, he has that same kind of ceremony waiting for him at the end of his career. It had to be incredibly motivating for him, if anything.

Lol.
It really is that simple.
To quote Theodore Herzl, "If you will it, it is no dream."

Daniel will be fine.

How Eli was being treated and felt how fortunate he was to be the QB for ab organization like the Giants and excited for possibility of having a similar career and adoration.

Nah, I will never miss Eli. This is the happiest day as a Giant fan for me. Only bad thing is not seeing his delusional fans retiring with their God. Like a damn cult. Just happy to have my Giants back. Wish Eli the best but his fans can suck a big dick.

On top of that, some of you are absolutely batty with your takes on how this ceremony for Eli could be some kind of "motivation" for DJ.

As if winning the Superbowl itself isn't all the motivation any athlete worth his fucking weight in salt would need!!!

I guess that wasn't motivation enough for Odell Beckham, and that's why his career - that so readily might have been an HOF one - is going up in flames.

Or rather will go up in flames...
Work on reducing the turnovers.....is key

If that is repeated.....then he will get abused.

Who will be his backup?

DJ didn't play for most of the year, but he did, he looked very good and capable for a rookie. And to add to that, he came back from injury to replace Eli after a win, and put up 5 TD's.
